Prince William Makes a Private Donation to Help Those Hit by Flooding in Australia

QuoteWilliam may have a better understanding than most of what the rescue teams are facing, having worked both as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot and an Air Ambulance pilot. Kensington Palace also said today that the Prince has made a private donation of an undisclosed sum to the Australian Red Cross which is working in the areas affected.

Heartening call with those affected by flooding in Australia - YouTube

QuoteHeartening but heartbreaking to speak with some of those affected by the serious flooding in Australia.

As ever, their sense of community and selflessness is humbling, but it is terrible that such devastation seems to be occurring more often.

On the call were: Daniel Cleave and Curtis Arthur, owners of a small business in Shepparton, Victoria; Grace Langlands, a member of the NSW State Emergency Service; Maureen Carter, CEO of the Nindilingarri Health Service in the Kimberly Region of Western Australia; and Brad Flowers, owner of the Overland Corner Hotel, Upper Murray, South Australia. Collectively, these individuals represent small business owners, frontline responders and local community and Indigenous peoples leaders.

Of course we are in summer here in Australia now so except for certain rivers that are still overflowing their banks things are on the mend. It?s reconstruction, refurbishment of people?s homes and businesses, repairs to infrastructure etc that is on the agenda now, so that those who?ve been flood affected in the past two years can get back to some sort of normality. As I said, flooding is still occurring in spots but most of it has gone (and left an awful mess behind.)

I believe that it is possible that the couple have already made a private monetary donation to Windsor Foodshare. As for food donations, it's possible that was made as well prior to their visit or that they were waiting to see what the organization was lacking in the way of non-perishables. The couple also stated that they'd return again so there's an opportunity to provide food donations when the WC or Sandringham estate produce is harvested.

The Prince of Wales visits St Mary's Church, Snettisham:

The Prince of Wales visited Snettisham Memorial Hall, Snettisham on Sunday morning to pay his respects and remember the devastating events of January 31, 1953, when the worst storm for centuries hit the Norfolk coast.

Prince William visited the Memorial Hall after the service at St Mary's Church, where he enjoyed coffee and cake and chatted to everyone.

I knew that 1953 was significant because the Netherlands also faced devastating flooding as well.but a day later. Shocking to see the photos and view the devastation.

Glad that he made the visit to commemorate this event.

Yes, I remember the Netherlands floods and also a bit of Germany being affected as well. That weather reminds me of what the east coast of Australia has gone through over the last couple of years.

It hit several counties in East Anglia and the East of England as well. I was in Lincolnshire as a small child, living in a seaside resort in that county and had only just started school. I can remember the floods and the evacuations quite well and perhaps Charles does too.

Thank you for sharing your recollections of this event @Curryong.  I am sure that Charles and Camilla must have some memories of this from 1953 even though they were young.
