QuoteAt 56, new grandmother Princess Caroline of Monaco looks her age for once as she dresses down to visit baby grandson in London

She usually spends her time flitting from yacht to island to glittering society ball. So when Princess Caroline of Monaco appeared in London today looking, well, normal, one would have been forgiven for walking right by the 56-year-old Royal.

Princess Caroline was in town to visit her son Andrea, who last week became a father for the first time - making Princess Caroline a grandmother.

Andrea Casiraghi, 28, and his fiancee, Colombian heiress and fashion designer Tatiana Santo Domingo, 29, had a son, named Sacha, at London's Portland Hospital on 21 March.

Yeeah, I know! My mom is 55 and she looks way younger than Caroline. I wonder what's wrong with her skin... Oh, could be years and years of smoking. <_< Seriously, with all due respect, you would have to be a complete idiot if you smoke in this century. Now we know all that cigarrette does to you, and you keep doing it? That's just a slow suicide.

Cigarettes are addictive.  I can't remember who said, "Quitting smoking is easy.  I've done it a hundred times."  I used to smoke, but I quit years ago.  It's hard ... some people find they can't stop, so I can understand someone Caroline's age not quitting.  What I can't understand are people who are younger than 30 who start in the first place.

Yeah, I guess we have a problem. People younger than 30 think they are cool if they smoke, and are stupid and immature. And then older people say they can't quit. Which by the way, is an excuse. How come others can? If you really care about your health you'll do anything not to harm it.

Caroline is 56, my dad is 57. That means they are around the same generation. My dad started smoking around the age of 17, and he quit when he was around 27. You make the decision, and you stick to it.

Well, like I said, I quit.  But addiction is hard to beat.  You kinda have to be there to understand why some people can't.  Even among people who do manage to beat addition (of any kind), the relapse rate is astronomical.

My mother smoked all her life, and as she lay dying, she said to me, "If smoking did this to me, I don't regret one cigarette.  I enjoyed every one of them."  True story.  Some people just can't stop, I guess.  It was very hard for me, and it took three tries before I finally succeeded.  One thing that I think might apply is that the lower the self-esteem, the harder it is to stop.
