Hated by whom? Ena and Alfonzo hated each other equally after their children were born. Ena was hated by parts of the population for not showing emotions fully as they said a Spanish Queen would, hated by some of elite for simply not being Spanish, and later hated by republicans along with King Alfonso for just being royal.

Her parents gave Marie a huge number of gifts of jewellery of all sorts as wedding gifts, including tiaras.

Here are a few tiaras of hers, most now mostly sold off and/or broken up in the years following WWs1 and 2.

Marie arrived in England following her wedding to Affie in 1874 with a treasure trove of jewellery of such magnificence that her new sisters in law were shocked into silence. Marie was so loaded up on many formal occasions that her Ladies noticed that Queen Victoria's small mouth turned down noticeably at the ends, always a sign of not being amused.

Victoria had fine jewellery of course in 1874, but it was only in the 1880s and '90s that the opening of the huge gold and gem fields of Southern Africa and Australia occurred. This meant that some spectacular precious gem gifts were not in the possession of the BRF decades before.

You are more than welcome. I love the Romanovs and the 19th century, as you know!

Britain's Royal Family Links with Romanovs

There were many links, from 'pudding face' Marie, Affie Duke of Edinburgh's wife, marrying into the family, to Philip Duke of Edinburgh. His grandmother was of course Victoria of Hesse, later Milford Haven,  the eldest sister of Alexandra who was murdered with her family in a cellar at Ekaterinberg in 1918.

And then there was Britain's Queen Alexandra, whose sister Dagmar (Marie) married Tsar Alexander III. Their sons King George V and Tsar Nicholas II (the last Tsar of Russia) were first cousins and very close friends from childhood visits to Denmark. George and Nicolas were similar in looks, same colouring, eyes and beards and small stature. George in particular enjoyed having his photo taken with his cousin, dressed more or less identically, and thought it was hilarious when the two of them were mistaken for each other.

This even went on into the 20th century. When Nikita Khruschev, then the PM of Soviet Russia, visited Britain and attended a reception at BP he and his aides spotted a large portrait of a youngish King George V in full white uniform in the State Drawing Room and later indignantly asked why a portrait of the last Russian Tsar was hanging there! Mustn't have known about the close resemblance of the cousins! George V apparently didnt feel able to save those beloved relatives from their fate when they were made prisoner in 1917, however.
