^^^Okay, I?m not really sure how that relates to what I said. I wasn?t talking about countries leaving the Commonwealth entirely. Just that the countries in the Commonwealth for whom he is the head of state could choose otherwise. It?s not a necessity to retain him as the head of state for them to be members of the Commonwealth, so the benefits of the Commonwealth don?t automatically go hand in hand with how they feel about him as a monarch.

They are technically called ''Realms'' (the Commonwealth Realms)

HistoryGirl2

^I apologize. I will make note to state the difference in future posts to avoid confusion.

It's not theory, the ''Consitutional'' Monarchy is in practice in real life and by law of the land. Several of the QEII's closing and forming of government was done in the past couple of years. Charles will do it too, like it or not. It's his job. Whatever he does charity wise is entirely different. Lastly and I'll go back to the Coronation weekend, the Magna Carta of 1215 is the most famous document in the world, from the Magna Carta, most of the countries in the world made their own constitution. The Magna Carta is the UK Constitutional Monarchy signed by King John because he ''abused power''.

No worries HistoryGirl, it's just what it is, realms are those 15 countries that have Charles as head of state yet. Technically that is the name used in the 1949 declaration; 1. Commonwealth Realms 2. Commonwealth

I agree he will do the job, and I think he?ll do it well because whatever Charles has done in his personal life that has been offensive and disappointing, I personally think he?s always taken care to do his best from the public perspective of being a Prince of Wales. It would hold that he would have an even greater commitment to his role as King.

But what I?m saying is that monarchy is also a show. We don?t live in an age where they?re guaranteed continuation. They have to earn it by remaining popular enough with the public. There were republican sentiments both in England and the Commonwealth realms while Elizabeth was still alive. But I think even the staunchest republican would agree that it was next to impossible that England or Canada or Australia, for example, would become a republic during her reign. What I?m saying is that, I?m not sure that present and future British monarchs can say the same.

Does that mean I think the BRF will cease to exist in the near future? No. I would have no way of knowing that and I?m not in the business of telling fortunes. But I do think it is more likely than when Elizabeth was alive. They might survive for the next 300 years. Or not. I don?t know. But I do know that whether they do or do not survive will be greatly influenced by how people personally feel about the monarchs themselves not necessarily whether they do the job right or not. I don?t think we live in a world where people like you solely based on whether you?re doing steady work or not.

This coronation was somber and serious and that?s understandable to an extent, but it just didn?t feel celebratory to me. It felt like an event that just had to be ticked off the calendar. It lacked the pomp that I think has come to be expected from the British monarchy. That could actually be a great thing in the long run. Maybe the public will love Charles for scaling it back. I was under that same impression before the event. But after, it just left me feeling kinda ?meh? about the whole thing. A feeling of, ?So this is it?? Again, only speaking for myself. Just curious to see if others around the world felt the same or if it was just me.

A little history on Coronations at Westminster Abbey and as most know all of the English and British monarchs have been crowned at this site since 1066 with two exceptions: Edward V (presumed murdered) and Edward VIII (abdicated).

Coronations at the Abbey | Westminster Abbey

There were some historic moments at yesterday's service which were firsts for this Service.

QuoteHistoric firsts

Alongside the ancient traditions, the service included new elements recognising and celebrating the character of the United Kingdom today:

At the start of the service, The King was greeted by one of the youngest members of the congregation ? Samuel Strachan, a 14-year Chapel Royal chorister ? to whom The King replied: 'In His name and after His example, I come not to be served but to serve.'
For the first time at a coronation, The King prayed aloud in the Abbey, saying, ?Grant that I may be a blessing to all thy children, of every faith and belief?.
In another first, the service included languages other than English associated with the British Isles ? with a prayer in Welsh and a hymn (Veni Creator) sung in Welsh, Scottish Gaelic and Irish Gaelic.
The traditional Homage of Peers was replaced with a Homage of the People. Those watching and listening at home were invited to join the congregation in the Abbey sharing in this solemn and joyful moment.
Girl choristers participated at a coronation for the first time, as did female clergy with the Bishops of London, Dover and Chelmsford all having roles.
The Presentation of the Regalia was made by Members of the House of Lords and Senior Bishops in the Church of England. Those items without a Christian meaning or symbolism were presented by peers who belong to different faith traditions: Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Sikhism.

^So glad to see other coronations be highlighted because that?s exactly what was going through my mind when I was watching. Gosh, I wish I could travel through time and watch others!

Yes can you imagine being there for the first in 1066 and seeing the changes over the centuries!

One thing that stood out to me yesterday was the Queen Camilla appeared to be significant physical discomfort yesterday during the service. She appeared to be sitting very gingerly and seemed to wince as the AoC approached her with Queen Mary's crown. I wish for her sake that the crown could have been placed there briefly and then removed for the remainder of the service.

Speculation that she twisted or has a problem with the same ankle/foot. This speculation is because she was walking really slow, plus the fact that she missed out on Friday events.

TLLK

@wannable--I had assumed it was her head and neck, but I could see that she might have had some additional issues. Adding to that walking in a long gown on wet pavement/climbing in and out of carriages must have been difficult.

I noticed that too. She just looked uncomfortable.

There will be another buffet dinner after CoronationConcert at Windsor.

Quote
The King travelled up to Highgrove, his beloved country home in Gloucestershire, for some ?R&R? (rest and relaxation) after such physically and emotionally draining day. It is not known whether Queen Camilla travelled with him but she also left London.

She enjoys spending time at Ray Mill, her home in Wiltshire which she bought following her divorce from her first husband, Andrew Parker Bowles.

The couple would normally have stayed at Windsor but the palace was ?exceptionally noisy? as last-minute preparations and rehearsals were being made for tonight?s Coronation concert.

The King and Queen are expected to attend a VIP ?after party? at Windsor Castle tonight for family, friends and some of the star performers at the concert, including Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Take That.

It meant the 1,000-year-old royal residence will be rocking into the early hours of tomorrow morning.
