I?m sure the Beefeaters at the Tower are happy and feel that the change in their uniforms is as good as a rest. However, maybe it?s just me, but I?m going to miss the scarlet of their uniforms in the late Queen?s reign. I?m a colour person so navy blue, though smart, doesn?t do it for me I?m afraid.

As the colours change for each reign I wonder what the main colour in the Beefeaters uniform was in George VI?s time. Most film of royal events in the thirties and forties was in black and white, but, and maybe I?m wrong but I?ve got an image in my mind of something quite light, fawn maybe, with quite a bit of yellow and gold on it. Anyway, I?m sure the Beefeaters are happy they?re wearing something new!

From @sara8150's post Why one part of Westminster Abbey was specially designed for coronations ? Royal Central
How many people realize that Westminster Abbey is built in the shape of a cross?

I don't know the exact number of people who realize that it's in the shape of a cross. That's the traditional shape for most Christian churches in Western Europe and North America.

I think she is being considerate to her people. That is what I gather reading the comments under her tweet, the landslide majority are happy of the way she wrote her tweet with respect, honor, etc.

Like it sounds she wanted to make the direct announcement via her social media rather than her people turn on the TV come 6th May, there she is, surprise.

Very good comment, positive instead of negative like other do.  She is doing this for the people and herself and it is a very important time in the history of Great Britain with a Coronation of a new monarch.  :goodpost:

Thanks for that info, that is so interesting. I was there way back when, and did not realize that, now I have something to research on the Abby.... :yesss:

Historic Stone of Scone moved to London for King Charles' coronation | Reuters

QuoteLONDON, April 28 (Reuters) - The historic Stone of Scone, the ancient coronation stone upon which monarchs in Britain have been crowned for centuries, has left Scotland for London under tight security ahead of next week's coronation of King Charles III, officials said on Friday.

Also known as the Stone of Destiny and regarded as a sacred, historic symbol of Scotland's monarchy and nationhood, it is being moved from its permanent home at Edinburgh Castle for the first time in more than 25 years, Historic Environment Scotland (HES) said.

HES, which looks after the stone - an oblong block of red sandstone, said it had worked with police and other agencies to ensure it "can be transported safely and securely", saying it was being taken in a special carrier constructed largely from Scottish oak.

There seem to be quite a few Yanks headlining this British Coronation Concert, at least one of them being King Charles?s age. Very very few British headline acts of under 40 years of age have eagerly stepped up and even Elton John declined.

If Australians dont want to pledge allegiance noone is m aking them do so.  ANd if they dont want the monarch as tehir monarch, why dont they inaugurate a republic and have done with it.

HistoryGirl2

^Exactly 😂 I find this kind of amusing. No one has to even acknowledge that royals have any privilege to be addressed differently than any other person. If they wish to have them removed, then I suggest they join the already existing campaign to do so. Everyone has a right to do as they wish. But that?s the thing, most of those people saying that won?t lift a finger to join or support the Republican movement.

Amusing is it? It won?t be so amusing for the King when another realm goes, and Australia is a big one, a continent, in fact. And it will be assured that NZ won?t be far behind.

There?s already a Minister for a Republic in Australia, appointed shortly after Labor won the general election last year by the PM Anthony Albernese. Australians don?t and won?t need to join any Republican Party because a referendum on the monarchy will be organised by the Federal Govt.

The PM is going to get a Voice for our Indigenous population through Parliament in Labor?s first term in office and then in the second term the republic referendum will be held, having been organised by the dept of the Minister for a Republic from 2022 onwards. It?s long been discussed and MPs in both main parties are mainly republicans. It?s part of Labor?s manifesto and has been for a long long time.

However, as I?ve explained here in many posts there has to be a referendum on this issue as it is a constitutional question and our Constitution, formulated in 1900, is going to have to be changed.

It?s therefore not a question of a stroke of a pen by Parliament, as it has been in realms in the Caribbean, so ?why don?t they (we Aussies) just have one if we want one? is not possible. But it is coming.

It's a very slow process, in my opinion it is still in the stage of IF rather than When, polls still favorable with the Monarchy, for now the Australian government is spending moneys too to actively participate at the Coronation.

Well, you disagree with the Australian Govt then, and the PM, who have taken active steps to establish a future framework for a republic. The PM has already stated there will be a referendum in the Govt?s second term. That?s a promise.
And sending a relatively few defence personnel to London to participate in the Coronation does not mean that Australians are rapt about having a monarchy. No State has proclaimed a Bank Holiday for it, no special public celebrations have been planned for it anywhere here, and the most popular free to air channel here in Melbourne, in a major Aussie capital city, is showing AFL football in preference to the Coronation.

From the Sydney Morning Herald January (there are few recent polls.)

?Australians have increased their support for a republic at a time of intense publicity over Prince Harry and his falling out with the royal family, with some voters saying his revelations have influenced their shift towards breaking ties with the monarchy.

Support for the republic increased from 36 to 39 per cent among eligible voters over the four months since the death of Queen Elizabeth, while the number of voters against the change fell from 37 to 31 per cent.?

It's not that I disagree with a band or other. So far my family living there are happy, safe and sound. My only wish for every government and country in the world is good things for their citizens.  I'm quite wary these days with too many bad news, weird news, creepy news.

I also think Australia can/will do fine if they turn Republic. Just hope that its politicians don't go corrupt rogue making/committing contracts, moneys, etc. with China, it would be disastrous for the allied forces. At the end of the day. Factually the Caribbean is going China. Money makes the world go round, money helps the country. Like the Russian oil ban (is stupid), they are selling it all to India, India refines and sells it back to Europe.  That is the weird news part that makes west and east political management look  :censored2: India did something for a change to the Allies, stating that they think fristly of their own people who need to eat, and what not, etc. Asking the allies what can you give me in exchange to NOT sacrifice our citizens. The allies are up to their necks with debt and can't offer anything. Times have changed, nobody wants to sacrifice their people for a leader cause, USA isn't top dog anymore, the French want to do it their own way, Europe is looking at the French with interest.

I'll switch fully back to Coronation mode.

I am looking forward to the Coronation! King Charles III is already putting his spin on the BRF, with more influence to come. The feel is already very different from HMQ's reign. I can't wait.
