As far as King George VI?s Coronation was concerned, nearly half a million pounds would have fed millions of hungry mouths. In 1937 Britain was just staggering out of the Great Depression, factories all over the north of England and in Scotland, were working on ?short time?, and there was the sort of poverty in the slums of major cities that would be impossible in a First World country today. And the nation was gearing up to prepare for a major war, which would break out only a little over two years later.

Almost all Britons were a great deal more deferential then, the working classes less educated and so few questions were asked about the expense. Even so, if the costs of that ceremony had been publicised by newspapers at the time I do believe there would have been riots in some cities.

@Curryong-Correct me if I am mistaken, but didn't you watch the late Queen's coronation as a little girl? Do you recall anything from it?

^Quite right. These are not good economic times for many people in the Commonwealth. I do not think it prudent to have the King demanding that every person who attended the Queen?s coronation or considers themselves a friend of Charles needs to be invited. This is not a personal, family event. It is a state occasion, so it would likely behoove those planning it to consider the financial aspects of the state.

And frankly, I?d personally rather see people from the NHS and the army invited over someone whose only claim is that they were friends with Elizabeth and attended her coronation 70 years ago.

I agree. I am aware that there are those who are critical of the decision to not invite Lady Pamela (Mountbatten) Hicks, but even she appears to find the decision sensible. She's in her mid-nineties and required a wheelchair to attend QEII's funeral. I don't believe that she'd be very comfortable for the two hour service as well as the long waiting period before the event begins.

I've read somewhere that the King is going to forgo a Coronation banquet in favor of a quick, light luncheon after the service.

I did see it, yes, on an extremely small TV screen in a neighbour?s house. About a dozen of us, including my school friend, gazing at a black and white picture. About the only thing I can remember seeing, apart from the coach going to the Abbey through huge crowds, is the actual crown being placed on the Queen?s head by the Archbishop, as everyone around me ?Ooh?d? and ?Aahed?. That and her processing back down the Abbey in her robes, and followed by attendants in white. And a lot of us eating a bowl of curried Coronation chicken and rice.
Seen it in full colour several times since, of course.

Yes, her reply was so gracious. And I?m sure had Charles expanded the list to include them, there would have been a percentage of the population that would have been unhappy about that. Being a public figure oftentimes means always having at least one person unhappy with a choice you made. I think Charles is balancing it all out pretty well. A coronation is an expensive, ornate event by its nature, but he?s doing well to include members of the community and trying to cut the guest list to limit spending. It?s all a balancing act.

Dog charity granted its own Palace garden party but pets not invited | Royal | News | Express.co.uk
No dogs are invite per King Charles because Kennel Club celebrated 150th anniversary

So Charles is having a doggie garden party without dogs, just how do you do that without dogs? Invite all the people that work to take care of dogs, so have dogs there, a few even and wearing doggie diapers and yes there are such things a doggie diapers as I put one on my dog right before bed time, even when I walk him before bedtime, he still might have an accident so a doggie diaper helps him and me.  It is a huge business in the doggie world of things that are made for them today besides sweaters and boots. I keep telling my dog in my next life I want to be you..so spoiled and loved and cherished and well cared for, every one of them and he is number 5, all my dogs except one have been old senior abused dogs who were dumped on streets to die by the so called wonder human race.........grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I have a sign on my door at home, *Dogs are very welcome and humans are just tolerated*......LOL, makes some very careful when knocking on my door.....
