As I mentioned on my post, I thought the sticking point was probably King's Day. Very unfortunate. However, surely Queen Maxi, formerly Argentinian like the Pope, and a devout RC, surely could have been spared to attend this important funeral (magnificent and full of signifance I thought though only caught bits, seeing it on Aus TV.) It wasn't as if there won't be any more national celebrations of King W-A's birthday, and he had two of his daughters by his side anyway. An historic occasion missed imho and a bit of a let down for Netherlands Catholics.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima are visiting Lopikerwaard (Montfoort, Lopik) and Vijfheerenlanden today. Characteristic of the landscape are the floodplains with beautiful views over the river Lek, the dikes and the polder landscape.
