As I have said before, there is just complete indifference and disinterest among people here in Victoria regarding King Charles's visit. He isn't even visiting, for health reasons, NZ or any States or Territories of Australia apart from Canberra (ACT) and NSW. And as for reports that republican politicians are snubbing him and the Australian Republican Movement is requesting a meeting (which of course they won't get) that says it all really.

"Queen Victoria never stepped foot in Australia; neither did King Edward VII.

King George V did, back when he was still receiving naval training aboard the HMS Bacchante, and then again when he was Duke of Cornwall and York.

Edward VIII visited as Prince of Wales. George VI visited as Duke of York. After the Second World War, Buckingham Palace drew up plans for King George VI, Queen Elizabeth and their two daughters to visit in 1948, but owing to the King's ill health, the trip was scuttled."

Late Queen Elizabeth's final trips to Australia is in 2011

A warm welcome back to Australia.

Their Majesties have a deep regard for Australia, and this visit will be an opportunity to showcase the very best of our modern and dynamic nation.

Over the next few days, King Charles and Queen Camilla will meet with Australians at events in Sydney and Canberra - Anthony Albanese

The royal couple were greeted from their plane mostly by Australian republicans. Don't know the allegiances of some of the minor unknown party that gathered in the pouring rain at Sydney airport last night, but the PM Albanese and his fiancé and the Governor of NSW and her husband are known republicans. So is the Premier of NSW. I imagine however that his mother, who seems to have been slipped into the welcoming party by request, is a royalist!

In addition to the above list I forgot to mention that the Governor General of Australia is a republican as well.

King Charles has been appointed as Admiral of the Royal Australian Navy, Field Marshal of the Australian Army, and Marshal of the Royal Australian Air Force.

Chief of the Defence Force Admiral David Johnston explained the significance of the appointments, saying "The Sovereign serves as an example of service, and His Majesty's appointments are symbolic of the Royal Family's longstanding dedication and relationship with the nation...since Australian Federation in 1901, Australia's military forces have been custodians of great traditions connected to the Commonwealth, and 123 years later the Australian Defence Force is proud to continue this legacy."

The King and Queen have attended a service at St Thomas' Anglican Church, led by the archbishop of Sydney, Kanishka Raffel, as part of their first full day of engagements during their Autumn Tour to Australia.

The royal couple were greeted by children from the church's Sunday school waving Australian flags and signed two bibles.

King Charles has joked about the "sands of time" as he gifted an hourglass to the New South Wales Legislative Council, which is celebrating its 200th anniversary

An ambulance is following his flotilla everywhere he goes.

'On Sunday, the King delivered a speech at the NSW Legislative Assembly, with the passage of the years clearly on his mind as he talked about the "sands of time". His Majesty then bailed on the lunch given in his honour, leaving after less than 10 minutes and even before the first course was served.'

'Meanwhile, journalists for news.com.au on the ground reported that the security and staffing around him were overwhelming and that they had "never been manhandled like that before" at any other event.'
