The full text of the Duke of Cambridge's message and I fully agree that Prince Phillip would want them to "get on with the job."

QuoteMy grandfather?s century of life was defined by service ? to his country and Commonwealth, to his wife and Queen, and to our family.

I feel lucky to have not just had his example to guide me, but his enduring presence well into my own adult life ? both through good times and the hardest days. I will always be grateful that my wife had so many years to get to know my grandfather and for the kindness he showed her. I will never take for granted the special memories my children will always have of their great-grandpa coming to collect them in his carriage and seeing for themselves his infectious sense of adventure as well as his mischievous sense of humour!

My grandfather was an extraordinary man and part of an extraordinary generation. Catherine and I will continue to do what he would have wanted and will support The Queen in the years ahead. I will miss my Grandpa, but I know he would want us to get on with the job.

This is the statement from the Duke of Sussex on the Archewell site with a great photo of Harry and Phillip looking at each other. (Perhaps taken in November one year as Harry's poppy is visible.)

In Loving Memory

Quote

Statement from Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex:

?My grandfather was a man of service, honour and great humour. He was authentically himself, with a seriously sharp wit, and could hold the attention of any room due to his charm?and also because you never knew what he might say next.

He will be remembered as the longest reigning consort to the Monarch, a decorated serviceman, a Prince and a Duke. But to me, like many of you who have lost a loved one or grandparent over the pain of this past year, he was my grandpa: master of the barbecue, legend of banter, and cheeky right ?til the end.

He has been a rock for Her Majesty The Queen with unparalleled devotion, by her side for 73 years of marriage, and while I could go on, I know that right now he would say to all of us, beer in hand, ?Oh do get on with it!?

So, on that note, Grandpa, thank you for your service, your dedication to Granny, and for always being yourself. You will be sorely missed, but always remembered?by the nation and the world. Meghan, Archie, and I (as well as your future great-granddaughter) will always hold a special place for you in our hearts.?

?Per Mare, Per Terram?

Now that the children of the DoE and QEII have released their own written or televised statements, I believe that it's appropriate for the grandchildren to release their own. Good to see the ones from Princes William and Harry this morning. That's a fantastic photo of the DoE with Prince George in the carriage.

Harry's farewell ends with: ''Per Mare, Per Terram'' which is  the motto of the Royal Marines. It is Latin for ''By Sea, By Land''.

The two last Empresses of Russia were both great-aunts of the late Duke of Edinburgh.

Empress Maria Feodorovna (Alexander IIIs wife) was his paternal grandfather's sister and Empress Alexandra Feodorovna (Nicholas IIs wife) was his maternal grandmother's sister.

Basically since People mag says Harry is in Frogmore, so be it, rather than Nottingham Cottage.  I really hope his family speaks the minimum necessary. Everyone knows he's on speed dial with Meghan and Gayle.

QuoteThe Queen will not be left to 'walk alone' following the death of her beloved husband of 73 years.

Senior royals are coming together to ensure the monarch is accompanied by a member of the family on future public engagements.

Those who will be seen at her side are the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Earl and Countess of Wessex and Princess Anne.

Sources stressed last night that the Queen, who says Prince Philip's death on Friday has left a 'huge void' in her life, will fulfil as many commitments as possible once the two weeks of official mourning ends on April 22 ? the day after her 95th birthday.

They point out that she has always undertaken solo engagements, both before and after her husband officially retired in 2017. But it is understood there is a concerted effort under way to ensure she has more support in the future.

If this article is to be believed, then I am pleased that the senior royals mentioned in the article from the Daily Mail will be there to support the newly widowed Queen Elizabeth II. Also I would expect that her Gloucester and Kent cousins will be there if requested. However I do believe that Princess Alexandra may have unofficially retired as she's not undertaken any virtual or telephone engagements in several months.

TudorQueen

I find it odd they would suggest the queen would need 'an escort' for royal engagements.

While losing her husband is hard, Philip retired from public duties in 2017. It has been nearly four years since she started attending public engagements alone. Really her public role will change very little with the death of her husband.

Its her private life where she will feel more the absence. And hopefully her children, cousins and grandchildren will help fill that void.

Macrobug67

I agree.  She is going to need support in her private live.

Maybe she does need the plus one for future engagements.  There's a difference in having a retired partner at home and another is suffering a loss.

It always amuses me when I read a lot of things about Prince Philip?s family in the British Press. The sisters all married NAZIS seems to be the theme of much of it. Well, no they didn?t.

Philip?s brothers in law seem to have run the gamut in loyalty to that organisation, ranging from Margarita?s husband who protected the founder of Gordonstoun Kurt Hahn as much as he possibly could before the Jewish Hahn fled, to Christoph of Hesse who was an enthusiastic supporter in the early 1930s along with his brother. George Donatus of Hesse, who was killed in a plane crash in 1937 along with almost his entire family, didn?t join the Party as a member until shortly before his death, though his brother Lou was a cultural attach? to the German Embassy in London at the time he wasn?t a Nazi either.

And really it?s quite comical that the British media seem to think that all Philip?s family should have been automatically pro-British throughout the 1930?s. Why? Philip?s father Andreas was a Greek Prince. Greece was neutral until it was invaded during WW2. He spent most of his latter years in comfy playboy mode with a mistress in the South of France.

Alice, Philip?s mother, had more relatives in Germany than she had in Britain and was fond of all on both sides. Her mother had been a Princess of Hesse. Her father, in spite of a lifetime career in the Royal Navy, was also German, something that stymied his career as First Sea Lord in 1914.

Yet these relatives, all of them German, with a touch of Danish and Russian, should, according to the British Press, have all settled in England after Alice?s incarceration in a mental institution and married British Dukes or something, instead of German cousins. None of his sisters ever lived full time in Britain and his brothers in law certainly didn?t. Where in their ancestry and way of life does automatic loyalty to GB come in?

Admittedly this attitude was understandable just after the war when Philip married, but to continue it on into the 1990s and today when his relatives regularly visited Philip and the Queen, though still living in Germany, is not. I?ve forgotten how many times I?ve read the inaccurate statements about Philip?s brothers in law all being Nazis in British newspapers and magazines. About twice as many as the price of Harry and Meghan?s Californian mansion being mentioned every time the Sussexes are written about in the Fail I should think.
