More on the Prince of Wales meeting with the UN Secretary General.

The Prince of Wales meets the Secretary General of the United Nations ? Royal Central

QuoteDuring his trip to New York City, Prince William has met with UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres.

The Prince of Wales landed at Newark airport on 18th September 2023, and is in the Big Apple for the annual Earthshot Prizes meeting during which finalists are announced.

The Secretary General is in New York to preside over the United Nations? General Assembly and has been holding talks and meetings over the past few days with some of the leaders that have gathered in the city for the occasion.

By the way, Catherine will not be joining Prince William in Singapore this November for the Earthshot Prize Ceremony.

Prince William Visits FDNY Firehouse to Wrap New York City Trip

QuotePrince William is meeting some of New York's bravest.

The Prince of Wales, 41, headed to an FDNY firehouse on Tuesday as part of his two-day trip to New York City. While most of his overseas tour surrounded his Earthshot Prize and other environmental issues as well as meetings at the United Nations, the firehouse visit surrounded another cause close to William's heart: the mental well-being of first responders.

Really nice to see how well both William and the city had a somewhat love fest as the way the people lined the streets to met him and he just jumped in and met as many as he could in the time he had for  this event.  Boy, William is certainly becoming a statesman for the world...charming and very knowledgeable about climate change and showed his willingness to do as much as he can, and here the world thought Charles was full of hot air many decades ago over climate change...he fooled them all for now we suffer that climate change around the globe.  William taking up the mantle of his dad is fabulous as now there are so many people wanting to accept that our planet is suffering from the abuse of mankind.

Richard Kay?s notes on the NY trip and William?s meetings. Also note that this is a 40 year old man that Kay is speaking about not some callow youth of 20 who hasn?t been much on the world stage.

Richard Kay, editor at large for the Daily Mail, noted how the Prince of Wales?s willingness to get involved in activities including collecting oyster shells on the Hudson River showed members of the public that he has an ?open side?. Speaking to the Daily Mail?s diary editor Richard Eden and host Jo Elvin, Kay commented on the ?spontaneity? of William?s itinerary during his stateside trip.

In particular, he noted the 41-year-old?s casual jog through Central Park one morning, which he said was an act that was ?straight out of Diana?s playbook?. However, he noted that, while the Prince of Wales looks comfortable and at ease during some engagements, he is ?still learning? which means he can look less fluid at times (for example, when meeting world leaders).

?One of the problems with William is that he?s not a natural on his feet. He?s slightly awkward on his feet. He?s cautious ? he?s always been cautious, so is Kate, too ? and he?s trying to show that there?s a more open side to him, he can be a bit more spontaneous.?

Kay also noted the success of William?s stateside trip, which he argued may have been overshadowed had Princess Kate joined him. Speaking to his panellists, Kay said: ?The fact is it becomes less of a fashion show [if Kate is there]? it?s more about him and what he wants to say.?

Citing names including Earthshot supporter Mike Bloomberg and Antonio Guterres, the UN secretary general, Kay said William was keen to make an impression with ?powerful figures?.

However he added the Prince of Wales was ?much more comfortable when he met people like [Bill] Gates, who are sort of on board with his Earthshot project, and much more uncomfortable when he met presidents.? During the meeting with Ecuador?s president, Lasso Mendoza, William?s conversation with the world leader was ?stilted?, Kay said.

?On those occasions William doesn?t have the fluidity of his father who was so wonderful at that sort of meeting. But he?s learning, and he is learning, and it was impressive.?

So, even the ubiquitous Kay can?t say that William is charismatic and at ease with others and making others feel at ease, without causing incredulity, and that was in spite of a huge build up by the tabloids before and during this trip, yelping about William being ?a statesman in the making? and the rest of the rubbish they always come up with. William is wooden. He?s always been wooden since I?ve been watching him as an adult (about 20 years) and he?s likely to remain in the same state when dealing with others for the rest of his life. Unlike his brother he?s inherited the Windsor shyness, and that doesn?t fade.

He is doing a fantastic job with Earthshot Prize.  I love love love Bloomberg's introduction at the summit - that PW introduction was ace.

William is showcasing every winner and in some cases contenders so the public can be aware of what novelties people are doing in the world to save the planet. Their grain of salt if you will.  It was great exhibiting the recollection of oysters, the NYC restaurants that are involved in the project, what the used oysters do to regenerate the seabed environment.

William is *cautious* about meeting people and that comes from his life with the media breathing down his neck every time he steps foot out of his home which is his *safe place*.  Nothing wrong in being a bit shy, cautious and careful when dealing with *anyone* including world leaders as they have the most to lose as William will always be a future king as now he is a man in training for that position till the time comes when he sits on that throne. I would rather have a cautious man then someone who talks nonsense about his dead mother all the time.

wannable

There is nothing wrong being ''cautious''. The contrary, it is very wise!

Statistically the non cautious famous people in the world end up unpopular, cancelled or worst.

Nightowl

Thank you!  Life's experiences can and have taught me about being cautious with people, Accept nothing, Believe nothing and Check everything...the ABC's of life..that is my former boss's motto who was the CEO of his law firm....I keep that close to me always.  William I think is the same with people as he should be being who he is in life....a very cautious man in his position!  Not a loud mouth run of the mill kind of man at all, unlike some we know.

Prince William arrives in Singapore for the Earthshot Prize award, the first to be held in Asia | AP News

QuoteSINGAPORE (AP) ? Prince William arrived Sunday in Singapore for the Earthshot Prize awards, the first to be held in Asia, to support environmental innovators with solutions to battle climate change and save the planet.

Dozens of people waving British flags welcomed him with loud cheers. William, 41, shook hands, signed autographs and sportingly took selfies with many of them during a walkabout.

?It?s fantastic to be back in Singapore for this year?s Earthshot Prize ceremony, after eleven years,? he said in a statement upon landing. ?Singapore?s bold vision to be a leader for environmental innovation sets the standard for others to follow.?
