A statement from the Communications Secretary to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

Published 4 October 2019
Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will undertake an official visit to Pakistan between Monday 14th and Friday 18th October, at the request of The Foreign and Commonwealth Office. This will be Their Royal Highnesses' first official visit to Pakistan.
Whilst The Duke and Duchess?s programme will pay respect to the historical relationship between Britain and Pakistan, it will largely focus on showcasing Pakistan as it is today ? a dynamic, aspirational and forward-looking nation. From the modern leafy capital Islamabad, to the vibrant city of Lahore, the mountainous countryside in the North, and the rugged border regions to the West, the visit will span over 1000km, and will take in Pakistan?s rich culture, its diverse communities, and its beautiful landscapes.
Throughout the tour, Their Royal Highnesses will visit programmes which empower young people, and organisations that help ensure they have the best possible start in life. Access to quality education, particularly to girls and young women is one of the UK?s top priorities in Pakistan. The Duke and Duchess are looking forward to spending time meeting young Pakistanis, and hearing more about their aspirations for the future.
Their Royal Highnesses? programme will also cover how communities in Pakistan are rapidly responding and adapting to the effects of climate change. This a key area of interest for Their Royal Highnesses; they are keen to learn more about the climate change issues affecting Pakistan and our world, and the positive work being undertaken to combat these challenges.
Their Royal Highnesses will also spend time understanding the complex security picture in Pakistan. They will learn more about the challenges and opportunities, both of the past and today. The UK has been a key partner for Pakistan, and The Duke and Duchess will meet UK and Pakistan military personnel who are sharing expertise to improve security.
As with previous overseas visits, The Duke and Duchess have asked that this tour allow them opportunities to meet as many Pakistanis as possible. Over the course of the visit, Their Royal Highnesses will meet a wide variety of people, including children and young people, leaders from government, business and the charity sector, inspiring conservationists, and well-known cultural figures and sporting stars.
This is the most complex tour undertaken by The Duke and Duchess to date, given the logistical and security considerations. Pakistan hosts one of Britain?s largest overseas networks, with the British High Commission in Islamabad being one of the UK?s largest diplomatic missions in the world.
The UK?s links with Pakistan are extensive, and Their Royal Highnesses are looking forward to building a lasting friendship with the people of Pakistan.

The second statement from the Comms Secretary, the first one was notifying the tour,  this second is a general of what will be the agenda.

Just been to a briefing at Buckingham Palace about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge?s forthcoming tour to Pakistan.
It?s the most complex tour undertaken by the couple to date, given the logistical and security considerations.

I can?t reveal any  further details of exactly what they are going to do due to security reasons - but it?s going to be fascinating #RoyalVisitPakistan

TLLK

Thank you @wannable  for the information. Understandably the security issue specific to Pakistan makes it difficult to give dates and times for the engagements.

wannable

Yes, I've already read several tweets from the royal reporters who went to the briefing in person, obviously they know more details, embargoed and can't specify due to what they are explaining; complexity and security. You can tell the difference in tweets - although some who are requesting accreditation also received it by email, but not so detailed as the ones who went.

Princess Cassandra

I'm sure the security staff know what they are doing and wouldn't have agreed to the trip if they weren't confident about keeping them safe. However, one still can't help worrying a bit.

wannable

If they travel by RAF VIP Voyager of the Royal Air Force (and available for them for those 5 days) then its a full fledge security matter, if not the BRF usually use British Airways, the flag carrier airline of the United Kingdom.

I vote for RAF, winnable!  And they are certainly packing a lot into a few days!

I believe that they'll travel by RAF VIP Voyager for security reasons. It's likely to be more secure than a commercial flight since it is currently reserved for the use of the Prime Minister, QEII/DoE, and the PoW/DssoC.

The Crux is ''Availability'' of the RAF Voyager; if HM, POW or Boris require it, the Cambridge's get 'bumped'.

Although, reading the ''agendas'' of the 3 that may bump them (apparently the 3 will be in London all next week), it is very likely the Cambridge's will be using the military aircraft and also competing primarily with the UK Media front page news with; Queen's speech, Parliament , Brexit and lastly Meghan's Lawsuit update

Hi :hi: I'm referring to Statement 2016 and Statement 2019.  Both statements supporting Meghan.
Oh.  I thoguth he was talking again about this latest case. I do not think it is a great idea.. but Harry is Harry

TLLK

@wannable-Thank you for the information. So I went back to the link of the main article from the DM that day: 13 paragraphs on the engagement at the museum with references to the upcoming trip to Pakistan. Naturally  captions for the photos taken at her arrival were mostly about the outfit. :Jen:

Only a few more days until the couple departs to Pakistan.

wannable

I replied your previous comment.  When you say ''I saw'' I am supposing you read the entire article, including headlines and comments.  Sectioned or not to your comment it still is the DM prototype of what I had initially said and then expanded; from titles, to bold bullet points, to the paragraph buildup....

Since the Pakistan tour this coming Monday has officially been deemed ''complex'' and due to ''security'', no detailed date/time agenda, I am more inclined that the couple (and the press pack) will be traveling with the RAF Voyager during the entire week.  By this time RR's would be tweeting their flight details, in the past when sharing the same airplane, they keep it quiet.  i.e. the latest share with RR was Cyprus Dec 2018 using the RAF V.

So come Monday, we shall see if they tweet live tweets or embargoed for hours, and later post departure/arrival, etc.

The DM dedicates 1 paragraph of what Kate wore, 2nd onward is about the NHM, who she met with, anecdotes of the visit.  That is the DM prototype with both K and M.

Here's the MAIN article of the visit, which unlike Harry's because of my explanation of retaliation from the 3 largest tabloids in the UK, made front page/top news Kate Middleton pairs ?3K Chanel bag with high street Jigsaw culottes | Daily Mail Online

Then the DM also has filler spaces; the article dedicated to clothes, or the article dedicated to her hair, these may be found in the female section.

The couple will be starting their tour this coming Monday.
Thank you for the breakdown. I, too, am looking forward to the tour on Monday, just as I look forward to all royal tours. And we'll be treated to a few more royal tours this fall, which is great, too.

I doubt William and Catherine would ever take their school age children on a trip during term. It would underscore the differences in their situation from other children, which the Cambridges do not like to do. Not only do they not want their children to appear different to other children, but they don't want them to feel different at this age. Although, one cannot argue what an educational experience it would be for them.

Guessing they must be in final preparations or on their way. I know it's a short trip, but I would hate to leave my children and go so far away.

In his mum's footsteps: RICHARD KAY on William and Kate's visit to Pakistan | Daily Mail Online
Naughty Richard Kay is playing one of media's tricks: making news tidbits by creating competition between people when it isn't there:
"Inevitably, William's progress this week will be monitored especially to see if it is he, rather than his brother, who has the stronger claim to Diana's legacy. William is pictured above with Kate last week."
I took this quote from the article. It angers me, because there is no need to compare the two brothers at all in this article, let alone as who would have the stronger claim to their mother's legacy! I'm sure they are both part of her legacy in different ways, because they are two different people. She would be so disheartened to see this.

It's just one sentence versus the entire glowing article of Diana's successful visit to Pakistan and what her sons have been doing since her passing away; William with the homeless and Harry with the landmines and aids.
