Yes, I can imagine that this particular narrative would appeal to persons who don't like Meghan.

Harry is marrying Meghan not (thank God) her family, including her pathetic half brother who wrote a begging for an invite letter yesterday after castigating and embarrassing her.

Tom Markle Snr is in Mexico of his own volition. No-one is forcing him to live there. He had a large lotto win in his past and could have bought himself a house in LA, or elsewhere in the US. If he chooses to overeat, sleep much of the time, drink beer and keep to himself, that is entirely his choice. Perhaps that's the way he wants to live.

His son, Tom Jnr, says his father is in receipt of a good pension. Friends have also said Meghan has helped him financially over the years.

And finally, why is the DM so interested in this man? Out of the goodness of their hearts? Interested in improving his quality of life? Not bloody likely! They continue with these stories about the Markles because it's the gift that keeps on giving in their campaign to throw as much shade as possible on Meghan. Well, people are already getting sick of their tactics. Samantha Markle especially has a terrible reputation. Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame, guys, because in future years you'll just be an occasional minor irritation!

'It's not too late to send me an invite': Meghan Markle's estranged brother begs to attend wedding | Daily Mail Online

As you know im skeptical of the Sparkle, but I have to be fair and say I feel for her on this one, really sad and pathetic for her brother to ask this now after the last letter. Be a man and accept that the invitation boat has sailed. At this point having them there would only look bad making ppl wonder why she relented at the last minute.

Also while the kids are adults now, I would have liked her dad to have come out months ago and called for peace among the siblings. I know hes a private guy and it likely wouldnt have worked, but it would have been excellent optics and would have given Megan some much needed high ground. He's the symbolic at least, head of the family, and things were well past the whole trying to do that in private long ago.

The family's a dumpster fire, publicity wise, and that would have been a much need extinguisher to it, makes me wonder if dad figured its her mess and treatment of family that started it, she can live through it. Again, so many cases of wondering if smoke=fire that doesnt need to be. Thats one thing, if Diana was still here, the publicity would have been handled A LOT better, reminds me of the RF back in the days when they first got their head handed to them by Diana and they didnt know what to do.

Oh well, its almost over, once the weddings done as long as she keeps her nose clean shes got it made.

This is not limited to Meghan. Uncle Gary assaulted his wife and got in trouble with the law. Philip's sisters married Nazis and had to be hidden out for a time so to avoid scandal for Princess Elizabeth's wedding to Philip.

Embarrassing relatives are everywhere.

Trudie

First of all duch_luver her name is Meghan not Sparkle now that we have that out of the way. It is obvious Tom Jr. and Samantha are not interested in Meghan what they are interested in is attending a royal wedding with all the publicity that comes with it. Meghan is not what is making them money if they were to attend selling stories would. What they are looking for is a good party and fabulous food and drink on someone elses dime. It is also obvious Tom Sr. has not kept up with the antics of Tom Jr. and Samantha since he apparently used an internet cafe to read more about his daughters wedding. Samantha told the world her father authorized her to speak on his behalf that lie blew up in her face and I applaud Meghan for standing her ground and not giving in to these two losers she made a success of her life and is not responsible for the mess they made by their own poor choices including trashing her as soon as her relationship with Harry became public.

A guide to royal survival by Princess Diana?s private secretary | Daily Mail Online

"However, Sparkle (cause Trudie likes it so much LOL) should beware. Any suspicion that your public persona is not an honest reflection of your real personality will become obvious, sooner or later.

It's also wise to remember that hardly anyone, not even a trained actress, can keep up an act for ever."

I'd say its already too late, Patrick 'ol boy
"No other member of the Royal Family mattered that year, or I think for the next 17 years, it was just her." Arthur Edwards, The Sun Photographer, talking about Diana's impact.

sandy

Do we really see the royals' real personalities. I doubt it.

She's not SParkle she's Meghan. Sparkle was coined by the gossips on Tumblr.

THe royals are all actors when you get right down to it. Charles is now trying to play the "fun" codger, Camilla is supposed to be "compassionate" and William and Harry want to be "normal" ANd Kate wants to be "thrifty.

It's all a big scam.

Curryong

Meghan is a trained actress. She has also been living with Harry day in and day out at Nott Cott since last November, six months. Plenty of opportunities to 'show one's true colours' in six months, I would say.

In that time she has also taken part in lots of public engagements of one sort or another, fun ones like the Queen's Birthday Concert, solemn ones like the Anzac Day services, and ones in support of causes and charities linked to Harry, like the IG training at Bath.

Not once has anybody who came into contact with Meghan on those occasions accused her of being insincere or thought she was game playing or vain, or anything of that sort. On the contrary. She's been praised for being interested, asking relevant questions, being genuinely nice to everyone.

Patrick Jephson doesn't know Meghan and, like practically everyone else periphal to this romance, is trying to make money or flog a book, in his case the latter.

How to celebrate the royal wedding like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle - TODAY.com

FanDianaFancy

DOES ANYONE HERE THINK IT IS WAY TOO MUCH FOR  PH, SECOND SON, BUT NOT HEIR AND MM AND HER BAGAGE?

I do. I think it should have been more like EdandSophie. Not televised. Even PC and C had a small, scaled down wedding. He is to be only the KiofE. With he and C divorced and all of their bagage and bodies and media left strewn about for the ages, it was more classy and fitting. It was more palpable fir the public to accept too.

Not too much Pres.

The economy, Brexit, MM, PH, all of it.

I think it is way too much. It is a funny show fir a second wedding of two adults in their mid 30s who are living together.

.

royalanthropologist

It seems Meghan does like a good show and this is her chance. However, I think the press has done enough damage to her "feminist princess" credentials that things will be a bit muted despite all the grand arrangements. Meghan is very vulnerable and she is now totally reliant on the total support of the BRF. Otherwise her enemies are going to eat her alive. Even her family is no real support it seems when it comes to this so she is one of those brides who is totally dependent on her in laws for emotional support.

Curryong

It is not Harry's second wedding. It's his first, and for the most part this wedding and its organising has followed the Edward and Sophie template. Their wedding was also televised, they were also two adults in their thirties getting married, and they also had a carriage ride.

The media onslaught has been intense, partly because as a divorced and biracial American actress Meghan is something different to most BRF brides. However, there is also huge media interest (a) because this is the last 'big' Royal wedding until George's and Charlotte's, but also (b) Harry is popular with Britons in a way Edward never was.

In every opinion poll on the monarchy for years Harry has been in the top three with William and the Queen. He's either led or been second to his brother. In the last one taken only a few days ago. William had 72% popularity, Harry was just behind him at 71% followed by the Queen at 68%.

It would have been impossible at those levels for Charles and Diana's son to have had a quiet wedding with no media interest. Charles knew it, the Queen knew it and Harry knew it. The tabloids would have been in an uproar if he and Meghan had had a private wedding at BP or something with no opportunity for the public to see them.

Anyone would think, from the responses here that Harry and Meghan have constantly hogged the spotlight since their engagement. In fact they have been barely seen apart from the public engagements. When have they ever been seen out on a date in the last six months?

Judging by some people's reactions  the couple have been constantly inviting the media into their lives, giving dozens of interviews, encouraging all the articles on Meghan.

And Meghan has never said she wanted to change the monarchy of become the new Diana. That's Press hype, but apparently some people can't tell the difference between a tabloid or magazine article and what someone has actually said, or not said in this case! And neither has said anything at all  since their engagement interview!

And lastly, no-one is responsible for what their relatives do. What Tom Snr did was extremely stupid and a betrayal of trust. My feeling is that Meghan feels that blow more than anyone and her embarrassment is probably extreme.

However, Meghan is no more responsible for those staged photos of Tom's than Beatrice and Eugenie are for Andrew's friendship with a convicted pedophile or Fergie selling access to Andrew for money. She is no more responsible for Tom doing what he did than Kate is for her Uncle Gary punching his wife to the ground in the street, nor is Louise Wessex for Sophie's indiscretions when talking about her inlaws to a fake sheikh.

royalanthropologist

You do make interesting points @Curryong as always :goodpost:. However, I must also highlight the possibility of "fatigue" by members of the public. I admit the hype got to me. The press do that: build you up and then pull you down. It all started with the "feminist princess" taking on the Windsors and ended up with the "Trashy charlatan who hooked Harry". Those are caricatures and they can start getting on people's nerves. That initial plea for tolerance by Harry did not help. Some people resent being told off by an over-privileged so and so who has never really known true hardship. I think Meghan may also have done too much too soon. She was so visible and attending events in an official capacity before the wedding...some people resent that. Plus remember that there are people in this world that just do not like anybody. In all this I am not discounting resentment of her nationality, previous profession, race, divorce status and politics.
"In the past, people were born royal. Nowadays, royalty comes from what you do"...Gianni Versace

Curryong

If you weren't on Forums in 2011 though or were lurking around reading them you don't get a clear indication of the huge amount of interest there is when a high profile BRF wedding in in sight. Yes, people had eight years to adjust to Kate, but there was still an enormous number of articles in the Press and documentaries online and on TV, plus interest pieces in magazines and huge discussions about them all on forums like this one..

The controversies surrounding Meghan have whipped up more interest than would be normal for other BRF brides like Sophie for instance.

However, don't mistake what's occurred in 2018 for there being little overwrought hype attached to the William-Kate wedding in 2011, because there was a lot. In fact there was almost as much Press and TV excitement leading up to that wedding as there had been at the Charles/Diana nuptials in 1981.

Plus, Kate was also visible at several public engagements before her wedding and at social events with her fianc?, all of which was covered by the media. Meghan has done more engagements simply because as a foreigner it has been considered important that she get some idea of the different countries of the U.K., plus, with Harry's new Commonwealth role, some concept of that organisation in CHOGM week, and IMO, that is fair enough.

royalanthropologist

Those are all logical explanations but you must remember that human emotions are not always logical controllable things. If Meghan can hanker down and be the perfect princess, she might one day find herself a kind of Duchess of Kent figure...much beloved. Kate started off with some bad commentary but survived and is now a real anchor to William.  What Meghan must absolutely avoid is the tempation to become the center of a pity party for a press commentary victim.  It is never a good look when members of the most privileged club in the world portray themselves as victims.
