Flanked by a helicopter pilot and a burly minder, Prince William prepares to take off from Kensington Palace to fly to the high-security headquarters of the SAS for a dinner with Special Forces troops.

Our exclusive picture shows the Prince carrying his suit as he heads for a formal evening with the elite regiment.

He left London in the Sikorsky S-76 at 3pm on Thursday for the 50-minute flight to the base near Hereford.

That night he attended a dinner with Special Forces top brass before returning to Kensington by helicopter on Friday.

Prince William has praised the spirit of the Grenfell Tower community as he joined the DIY SOS team to rebuild a boxing gym destroyed in the fire.

He has been helping to create a new home for the Dale Youth Boxing Academy and a community hub near the site of the blaze in which 71 people died.

The Duke of Cambridge met volunteers builders working on the project who had been affected by last year's tragedy.

He said the community spirit he had seen made him "very proud".

"Grenfell and Manchester have been competing as to who has the most community spirit, because the terror attack in Manchester, I've never known anything like it, they were amazing, they came together," he said.

"I saw the same thing with Grenfell.

"It makes you very proud that through something so tragic and traumatic people come together like they do, and try and help each other out."

Prince William kicks off series of charity polo matches he will take part in with Prince Harry ? Royal Central

Throughout the Summer, the Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Sussex will be taking part in a series of polo matches all to raise funds for foundations close to their hearts.

Starting off the series, Prince William took part in the Jerudong Trophy at Cirencester Park Polo Club today.

Since 2007, the brothers have used polo matches as a way to raise money for a variety of causes and to date have brought in ?11 million.

This year?s select charities are Centrepoint, Child Bereavement UK, English Schools Swimming Association, Fields in Trust, Heads Together, Henry van Straubenzee Memorial Fund, The Household Cavalry Operational Casualties Fund, Irish Guards Appeal, Map Action, Mountain Rescue England and Wales, The Royal Marsden, RFU, Injured Players Foundation, Sentebale, Skillforce, Tusk, WellChild, and Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust.

Either Prince William or Prince Harry is Patron to all of the above charities

A Poem to Remember: Prince William praises five finalists of war poetry competition | The Independent

The five finalists for a national poetry competition marking the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War have been announced.

The winner of ?A Poem to Remember?, launched by Prince William back in February, will have their work read aloud by The Duke of Cambridge at the opening of the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre (DNRC) later this summer. The poem will also be installed permanently at the facility.

Over 5,000 poems were submitted, a team of literary experts looking for works that reflect on humankind?s ability to triumph over adversity and selecting a longlist of 25.

A judging panel composed of famous names ? including Stephen Fry, war novelist Andy McNab, and the 7th Duke of Westminster ? then chose the five best, with the overall winner being decided by public vote.

William is patron for the National Rehabilitation Center and the poetry contest winner has now been announced. Debbie Lawson sees PTSD patients in her work as an A & E nurse. Her poem will be transferred to a plaque that will be in the lobby of the center. More than 5,000 hopefuls submitted their work to the judges. Ms. Lawson will be present on Thurs. when the DoCam opens the center.

n A&E nurse who submitted her first poem to a national competition in the hope of helping traumatised war heroes will have her work read aloud by the Duke of Cambridge after being voted the "next Wilfred Owen".

Debbie Lawson, a Telegraph reader, said she wrote about PTSD to raise awareness of the "brave, brave people" she looks after, sending her work to a competition to find the war poets of the modern age.

Her lines, which impressed high-profile judges and the voting public alike, have now seen her crowned the winner of the competition, with her poem to be mounted on the wall forever more at the new Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre.

Mrs Lawson, who works as a PTSD counsellor and comes from a military family, said she was ?overwhelmed and so moved? to have her work recognised, after being inspired by the true stories told to her by a patient who had seen his comrades killed in Afghanistan.

Her poem, entitled One For the Team, took her just ten minutes to write, before she submitted it to the "Poem to Remember" competition without telling her family after reading about the DNRC project in the news.

If England classifies, I think the Foreign Office should re-think the determination of a no go due to political and poisoning issue.

Even though England is advancing, I don't see the British government allowing any representation from the government or their royal patron/president at the World Cup this year. They needed to send a strong message to Russia regarding the poisoning incident.

he Duke of Cambridge will present medals to pioneers in the fields of molecular biology, civil engineering and music during a day of engagements in Edinburgh.

William will be admitted as an honorary fellow of educational charity the Royal Society of Edinburgh today before handing awards to Professor Richard Henderson, David Climie and Dr Thea Musgrave.

The Prince was then due to attend a commemorative service at the Scottish National War Memorial at Edinburgh Castle before an evening reception marking 70 years of the NHS.

Nobel Prize winner Prof Henderson works in the field of electron microscopy, with his work directly contributing to a revolution in structural biology. Renowned bridge builder Mr Climie oversaw the seven-year Queensferry Crossing construction project.

Composer and conductor Dr Musgrave is considered one of the most influential and successful Scottish composers of her time.

Scotland?s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and health secretary Jeane Freeman will join the Prince for the reception marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the National Health Service.

Prince William, in his role as patron of charities SkillForce and the English Schools Swimming Association, took part in the Norfolk Polo Royal Charity match at Langley Abbey Estate.

The match was closely fought throughout and ended in a draw with a score of 4-4-. The Duke of Cambridge played alongside England International player Peter Webb, Scottish player and adventurer Robert Melville, and Clive Reid from Guards Polo Club.

Owner of Langley Abbey and Norfolk Polo Director, Rebecca Townsend, said: ?It?s a real privilege and delight to watch the Duke play. It?s also a very special opportunity to help support the work that these amazing charities carry out.?
