Excellent that W-A has continued to keep up his flying hours. He obviously enjoys it as well.

Yes I thought he'd have to give it up once he ascended to the throne, but it appears that "Mr. Van Amsberg" has been keeping up his flight hours the whole time.

In 2017, he revealed that he'd fly twice a month on scheduled KLM flights and that hardly anyone recognized him in his cap and uniform as he walked through Schipool Airport.

The Dutch king has revealed that for more than two decades he has, alongside his royal duties, held down a part-time second job.

In a newspaper interview published on Wednesday, King Willem-Alexander said that he recently ended his role as a regular ?guest pilot? after 21 years on KLM?s fleet of Fokker 70 planes and before that on Dutch carrier Martinair.

As a guest flier, the king worked about twice a month, always as co-pilot. He will now retrain to fly Boeing 737s as the Fokkers are being phased out of service. The 50-year-old father of three and monarch to 17 million Dutch citizens calls flying a ?hobby? that lets him leave his royal duties on the ground and fully focus on something else.

He didn't have to announce his name as co-pilot, but sometimes passengers would recognize his voice during announcements...if they were paying attention. :hehe:

And even when he makes announcements to passengers, Willem-Alexander says that as a co-pilot he doesn?t have to give his name. So while some people recognise his voice, it does not happen often. ?Most people don?t listen anyway,? he added.

I think it?s really admirable that W-A has kept this up for two decades and may he continue for several more years to come. You know that he and Maxi are just about my favourite royal couple. They are exuberant, enthusiastic and hardworking. Love it!

Frau Steinmeier appears to have had an accident. I know little about her, does she usually have to use crutches? Maxi looks magnificent as usual even if her gown is a repeat. It did look familiar to me.

Fantastic photos of the Berlin skyline today as the couple meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel atop the Bundestag. And yes I think that Angela is truly bemused by Maxima's hat today.  :lol: It's been awhile since Maxima has worn a hat that has captured my attention but just when I think that she's too predictable, she finds a way to prove me wrong. The hat is a repeat of one that she wore to Royal Ascot.

I like to think that the two women sat down and discussed world economics and finance.
