QuoteThe King remembered the former US president's 1977 visit to the UK with "great fondness" and praised his "dedication and humility".

In a message to President Joe Biden and the American people, Charles said: "It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of President Carter.

"He was a committed public servant and devoted his life to promoting peace and human rights.

"His dedication and humility served as an inspiration to many, and I remember with great fondness his visit to the United Kingdom in 1977.

"My thoughts and prayers are with President Carter's family and the American people at this time."

I'm sure many people in the US and around the world will agree on King Charles's summation of President Jimmy Carter's character and achievements.

He may have been only a one term President due to various circumstances, but Carter was a true Democrat (in the days when the Party really stood for something) and his life path after his Presidency was truly remarkable.

I was especially impressed by his commitment to getting the homeless into secure accommodation of their own.

Yes, he believed in putting his time, energy and money where it would do some good! He was also genuine and did not like to play political games.

King Charles and Queen Camilla Attend Church Service in Scotland

At which church will the Royal Maundy Service be held?

The King and Queen, with necessary interruptions to the schedule, such as the Italian trip, seem to be spending quite a lot of time at Birkhall. Charles has almost as much love for Scotland as his late mother I think. Must be those Bowes Lyon genes!
