what happened to the title Duke of Devonshire?

does it still exsist ?who currently holds this title?

Yes it still exists. The present holder is Peregrine Cavendish, son of Andrew Cavendish and Deborah Mitford.  He has said that he would like to give up the title if there are further changnes in the House of Lords. however at present he is I think the 12th Duke

It wouldn't be the first time a peer has renounced his rights to a style and title. So, in reality it wouldn't be very significant. The Duke of Devonshire would go from being styled a Duke to being just Sir Peregrine Cavendish with the title passing onto his son William Cavendish, The Earl of Burlington. :)
