QuotePrince Félix – Luxemborg's royal winemaker

Luxembourg's Prince Félix and Princess Claire on Wednesday presented wines from their family-run estate "Château les Crostes", where the couple has lived since their September wedding.

The vineyard is located in Lorgues in the southern French region of Provence. Félix and Claire moved into the estate's château when they returned from their honeymoon.

The winery is co-owned by Claire's father, Harmut Lademacher, and it was announced ahead of the wedding that the newlyweds would manage the estate, while Claire will finish her PhD studies in organ donation ethics at the same time.

On Wednesday, the pair presented the winery's products for the first time. These included three red wines – Syrah (or Shiraz), Grenache and Cabernet. Two rosé wines, Cinsault and Grenache, are also on the menu as well as two white wines, Sémillon and Rolle (also known as Vermentino), a rarity in a region that specialises in red wines.

Prince Félix is taking his role managing the estate seriously and has been taking oenology classes to deepen his understanding of wine.

He is not the first royal, however, to try his hand in the world of vino, with Prince Robert of Luxembourg, first cousin of Grand Duke Henri, owner of the "Château Haut-Brion" winery.

QuoteSaturday saw the visit of Grand Duchess Maria Teresa to the International Bazaar at the Luxexpo in Kirchberg together with her daughter-in-laws Claire and Tessy. Xavier Bettel and several other guest also moved from stand to stand within the royal group as they chatted to organisers and examined what was on offer.

It was interesting to note that the Grand Duchess paid particular attention to the Philippines stand and she passed on her condolences following the hurricane disaster that struck the country. She was heard telling stall holders that the people of the Philippines were in her thoughts.

The 53rd edition of the Bazar was captured on camera above showing the jovial international atmosphere the charity event is now famous for and continues on through Sunday.

Quoteit was time for one of the Grand Ducal Family's annual pre-Christmas traditions, a reception for members of Luxembourg's army and police force who took part in humanitarian and peacekeeping missions abroad. Luxembourgish forces are currently involved in NATO's Kosovo Force (KFOR) and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) for Afghanistan.

The reception traditionally takes place every year the Château de Berg, the Grand Duke official private residence, just before Christmas. Policemen and soldiers who have taken part in two two above mentioned missions as well as their wives, girlfriends, children,  parents and basically everyone they want to bring along are invited to attend. During the reception they all got the chance to mingle with Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria-Teresa as well as Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie (in a repeated Issa dress). New Deputy Prime Minister Etienne Schneider was also in attendance.

QuoteThe turbulent history of the Grand Duke's Palace

We know it as the Grand Duke's Palace, but around 1418 it was actually constructed as Luxembourg's City Hall.

1418 was the year the building was mentioned in official documents for the first time.

More than a century later, the building and much of Luxembourg city was destroyed when lightning struck the Church of the Franciscan monks and ignited a stash of gunpowder stored in the basement.

The explosion set the Town Hall and many other buildings on fire.  And it wasn't until 1573 that the Town Hall was reconstructed, when city architect Adam Roberti was asked to complete the task.

Unfortunately, once again in 1683 the building was bombarded by the troops of French King Louis XIV because the cellars were being used to house the city inhabitants during attacks.

Once again the building had to be restored, and for the next two and half centuries it was used to house first the Government Commission and later the royals.

As if the turbulent past wasn't enough, the Palace was converted into a concert hall and tavern by the Nazis during the Second World War. Damage was done to much of the furniture and rich art collections, sets of oriental and Dutch china and precious vases were removed, but fortunately recovered later.

The Palace was completely restored again between 1991 and 1996, and since 1964 the interior has been regularly renovated to match modern tastes and standards of comfort.

It now serves as the official residence of the Grand Duke, where he welcomes foreign heads of states and other guests of the family.
