The photo gallery herein looks like Fred might be tomcatt'n around and not bothering much to hide it.  Plenty of husbands cheat, but it's more unusual when they don't bother to hide it and appear to have no conscience.   I keep thinking of the video of Princes Charles and Frederik together at the memorial for the train bombing in Spain and they had their heads together just giggling away.   What kind of men are they?  There's a name for it in Shrinkland and it starts with the letter S........

QuoteA CLOSE friend of Princess Mary who was photographed on a private yacht on Sydney Harbour with Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark last week insists they are just good friends.

Photos of Sydney lawyer Kylie Matthews relaxing in the company of the prince were published in Danish magazine Her & Nu, prompting suggestions of trouble in the royal marriage.

Tasmanian-born Princess Mary, who did not accompany her husband on this visit, was a bridesmaid at Ms Matthews's 2002 wedding to financial adviser Anthony Jones.

The couple have since split but Ms Matthews said any suggestion in News Ltd papers that she and Prince Frederik were more than friends was ridiculous. ''[I was] just out on the harbour with friends,'' she said.

the pix seem to be gone.

i can see how this would start up some serious worry about their marriage.  another woman, missing a birthday.  but if something was really up between him and Kylie Matthews would he really be seen out so openly with her?

The photos looked very cozy, if not a little suggestive.  Poor Mary, she's not that tightly wrapped to begin with and if Frederik did pull something like this out in the open then I'm very disappointed in him.

There's quite a large internet hate brigade against Mary -- I never did understand it and still don't.   The same level of vitriol has not been expressed towards any other royal wives or girlfriends from what I have seen.  Maybe it's something like the smell of blood means attack, but who knows for sure?

I have always liked Mary and thought her lovely BUT many posters from Oz seem to despise her...rather like a lot of Americans feel toward Kate Middleton.

From what I've read, the dislike stems from how much Mary has "changed" since her marriage and how she's not the same Aussie girl that entered the DRF 5+ years ago.  I'm not judging either way because I don't know how I'd change in that situation, but I can definitely see how an Aussie would now be offended by her.

Mary's accent has changed tremendously.  She started out with an Aussie accent (duh) and now sounds like she was born into the BRF.  And to be fair, perhaps her Aussie accent didn't hack it in Denmark.  Perhaps she changed because she wanted to fit in more or perhaps Queen Margarethe suggested she change her accent.  I don't know.  But it definitely did change.  And I can see how this would be offensive to an Aussie.  From what I've heard, they are quite fierce about their national pride.

I also know some people take issue with Mary being a label wh*re now.  I looooove nice clothes, but Mary dresses trĂ©s nouveau riche --Prada labels dripping everywhere and wearing something just because it's very very expensive, not necessarily because it looks good on her.

I just think Aussies feel Mary has lost touch with who she really is and has become this icy Nordic princess who desperately needs a stylist to tell her the truth about how some clothes look on her.  (Personally, I'd kill for some of her clothes, though, and her shoe wardrobe!!)

I'll abstain from any opinion except to chime in that glaring labels are tacky, but Mary seems to love them showing any way they can.  I very much liked the Mary that Fred married, and I hope she is still in there.  But again, I have no experience at all on how much palace life would change someone.

HOWEVER, that does not mean she should be cheated on.  I'm not sure what Fred was trying to pull with these photos, but it seems that, no matter how innocent or guilty he is, he wasn't thinking about the PR repurcussions when he was in that position with the other woman.  Friend or not, even if Mary knows it was totally and 100% innocent, it's still hugely embarrassing to have the entire world question her marriage with those pictures.

I hope she and Fred have it sorted out.  They had a good trip to Vietnam, so I hope they are on their way back to stability and contentment, if it ever went away.

Maybe Mary has changed since her marriage, but I followed on a board from the time there was only speculation of Mary being a possible girlfriend to Fred and the hate was rampant then.  I often wondered if it was generated by the girlfriend Frederik was cheating on when he took up with Mary?

I like Mary a lot. I didn't even know there was "hate brigade" against her on the internet. That's kinda sad, same with Ms. Middleton.

But anyways, I do think Mary has changed since she became Crown Princess, it's been almost six years now. She has matured. And most importantly she has become a wife and mother of two children, that matures one person a lot.

Plus, she an almost 38 year old woman. Her "freshness" may be gone. She's not an early 30's single lady. She's not a girl anymore, she's a woman, that's natural. That's good. There's no way we ever going to see the "old" Mary anymore, one cannot go back in time. Mary is stablished in her role as a Crown Princess, she works and "runs" a household.

About the clothing thing, for me that's nonsense. If she dressed too "poorly" she would be criticized as well, people could say "She's a princess, why doesn't she wears designer's clothes?". You can't really win. I agree that Mary should wear nice designer's clothes to stand out. For me, it wouldn't be that nice if she wore all those clothings while she was still a girlfriend.

The aussie accent thing, well, it's the enviroment. I mean, I'm not a native english speaker myself, much less an "australian" english speaker, but I know that once you spend a looot of time abroad, your speech changes. It's natural. Sometimes you not only get a foreign accent, but you also can't speak that fluent anymore in your mother-tongue, but that happens when you spend a looooong, I mean, really long time abroad.

In the end Mary is danish now. Yes! She may be australian-born, but she is danish now! She is a danish citizen, she a danish Crown Princess and she is the future Queen of Denmark and I don't think that the danes would like their future Queen living a very strong australian lifestyle.

Mary has been living in Denmark for about 7, 8 years. She is very much used with the danish lifestyle and she should be! She must be in touch with her countrymen, the danes. I'm not saying the should be ashamed of her background. Of course, not! But I wouldn't expect Mary to be anything else that she is now.

I believe she still does love Australia. She visits them every year or so. She takes her children to australian parks and demonstrates that she's proud of her upbringing and is not hiding it from her offspring.

I appreciate Mary a lot, different from Marie (Prince Joachim's wife). Marie has been a danish princess for about two years now and has done almost nothing. I knew she would take a much lower profile than the Crown Princess and that she become a mother almost recently. But Marie hasn't taken patronages from an early point, she almost doesn't attend solo engagements, I don't even know if she can speak danish fairly well at this point.

Marie seems nice, I'm sure she is committed to her role. But she hasn't done much. Mary, on the other hand, due to her circumstances, has been very succesful for a long time now.

Does anyone still have access to the pictures?

I am an Aussie and remember watching the wedding with family and friends. Everyone joked that we were not ready to become a republic because everyone went soooo crazy over an Australian marrying into a royal family.

Having lived overseas myself and my accent completing changing......my friends and family back in Australia were not very welcoming of it. I worked hard to lose the accent I developed quickly.

Because Australia is such a young country, people seem to be very protective of the shallow/stereotypical image which we have overseas. Our indentity is less defined than other nations, so people latch onto what they can.

If you click on drezzle's link then go to the actual magazine the pics are still up. The only thing I can see that would be worrying is she is resting on his legs and looks to be the only female but other than that, the pics don't look too bad unless there are more not being published.

Thanks Queen Charlotte.

I think his reputation might be having an impact on how these pictures are being interpreted.

lil157 and gec, I agree with both of your posts at Reply #7 and Reply #8.  IMO the magazine is simply trying to generate sales by making something out of nothing.

IMO, Frederick seems to be interacting with her in a very matter-of-fact sort of way.  He doesn't seem to be doing anything wrong.  It looks to me like the woman is simply a friend, and the only thing controversial about the situation is Frederick's past reputation.  The magazine seems to be trying to create a scandal where none exists, all based on Fred's past reputation.  Here is the translated magazine article:
