Oh, To Be a Fly on the Wall at Balmoral

David Cameron's wife, Samantha, 'snubs' the Queen by staying away from the Prime Minister's traditional annual meeting with the monarch at Balmoral.  A No 10 official says it's because it was Florence Cameron's first week at school and 'Mrs Cameron has a very tired daughter on her hands'.

There could be another reason for SamCam's absence. The Queen and her Prime Minister have weighty, close-to-home matters to discuss.

Though Mrs Cameron's decision was made before the YouGov poll predicting a 2 per cent lead for the 'Yes' campaign in the September 18 Scottish referendum, that was how the wind was blowing last week.

Aides to the Queen let it be known that she had 'a great deal of concern' and was 'horrified' about Scotland breaking away. She was receiving daily updates at Balmoral.

IMO it was better that Mrs. Cameron stayed in London while the PM and HM had the opportunity to really discuss the possibility of the upcoming vote.
