Spain Eyes Stronger Economic Ties with UAE Visit

King Juan Carlos of Spain began a visit to the Persian Gulf region on Monday by telling United Arab Emirates officials that deepening ties with their oil-rich country was a top priority, highlighting the role wealthy Arab states could play in shoring up the battered Spanish economy.

The Spanish head of state made the comments at the start of an economic forum in the Emirati capital Abu Dhabi, his first stop on a tour of six Gulf nations planned in the next few months. He was accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes several Spanish government ministers and representatives of major Spanish companies.

"The important official and business delegation that has come with me to Abu Dhabi today shows that the United Arab Emirates is at the top of our political and economic agenda," the king said in a chandelier-lit ballroom at the lavish beachfront Emirates Palace hotel.

Spain's King Juan Carlos Visits Kuwait

Spain's King Juan Carlos arrived in Kuwait on Tuesday with a delegation that includes three Cabinet ministers and more than a dozen business leaders for an official visit that will focus on trade and investment.

The Spanish monarch arrived from Abu Dhabi, where he wrapped up his visit to the United Arab Emirates, aboard a Spanish air force Airbus A-310.

The king's plane arrived at 1:00 p.m. at the Kuwait City airport, where he was welcomed by Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said received King Juan Carlos I of the Kingdom of Spain who began an official three-day visit Oman.

An official welcome ceremony was given for the King of Spain. Upon the arrival of the motorcade of the King to the reception hall at Muscat Museum Gate, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said led the welcoming party for the guest.

The King of Spain was also received by Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al-Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal bin Saud al-Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court, Gen. Sultan bin Mohammed al-Nu'amani, Minister of the Royal Office, Sayyid Badr bin Saud bin Harib al-Busaidi, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs, Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al-Busaidi, Minister of Interior, Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Abdullah al-Khalili, Minister of Justice and Darwish bin Isma'eel al-Balushi, Minister Responsible for Financial Affairs.
