What will the Coronation of King Charles III look like?
What Will Charles's Coronation Look Like? - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gn9b4wcQqTE)
In King George V's Coronation procession to Westminster Abbey in 1911, representatives of foreign royal families and governments travelled in fourteen carriages.
Do you think in King Charles III's Coronation that carriages will be used to transport representatives of foreign royal families and governments?
I wondered the same thing: what the coronation of Charles III would look like and when it would occur.
I think it will be much smaller. I doubt that the public will have the appetite for that much money spent. It?s a totally different world from 1911, 37 and 53.
I suspect it will be the cars, pared down ceremony and I doubt we will see the peers with ermine cloaks and cornets.
It will likely look more like the Spanish and Netherland coronations/proclamations of the last few years. Maybe a little more fancy than the Spanish.
I agree that the public is not in the mood for anything opulent, so a smaller-scale event would be the right thing to do now. The world has changed so much since 1953, the last coronation.
For the Coronation of King George V, his children Edward, The Prince of Wales and Princess Mary and Princes Albert, Henry, and George were in the procession to Westminster Abbey and were all in attendance at the Coronation.
Do you think Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis will attend King Charles III's Coronation?
King Charles will crowned about spring or summer 2023 after Queen Elizabeth II?s death but im not sure when date will announced from Buckingham Palace but still mourning since Queen Elizabeth II?s passed away September 8 about May or summertime if weather in UK will be perfect for coronation forecast
You remember when young Queen Elizabeth II had wait crowned in years 1953 because of her grandmother Queen Mary died in march 24,1953 before her coronation June 2,1953

I believe that George and Charlotte will be there for some parts of it. I'm not sure about Louis.

I can certainly see George and Charlotte attending the Coronation and being in the procession. I believe Princess Margaret was nearly seven when she and her sister the late Queen, wore coronets and did just that in 1937. Whether the Wales children stay for the whole ceremony (which even if foreshortened as the next one probably will be) is another matter. Though necessary such lengthy ceremonial is pretty boring for children.
We may see a short appearance by Louis that is similar to Charles in 1953 but IMO by temperament and age he won?t be considered able to be there longer than half an hour at the most.

I think we all realised, I know I did, that the Coronation wouldn?t be taking place in the depths of winter (attracting tourism had to be considered.) And it was hardly likely to be held in 2024 but next year for obvious reasons. Apart from that it?s all guesswork by the media at the moment. For it to be held as early as June 2023, with it already nearly October now, the arrangements would have to be pretty far advanced, and perhaps they are. That?s all I?m saying.
I merged several threads as they were all about the coronation. The date is speculative at present so please put all coronation articles and discussion here. Please dont start a bunch of new threads.

Will there be Coronation Souvenir Books for King Charles III's Coronation?
QuoteCharles could opt for 2 June ? which would also mark the 70th anniversary of the Queen's coronation.
Britain has not celebrated a coronation for 69 years. When King George VI passed away on 6 February, 1952, his daughter's coronation at Westminster Abbey was not held for another 17 months, on 2 June, 1953.
The ceremony will be held at the Abbey ? as it has for the past 1,000 years. Every sovereign since William the Conqueror in 1066 has had their coronation at the historic venue.
During the ceremony, Charles will take the coronation oath where he will be anointed with oils and be given the orb and sceptre.
He will then receive St Edward's Crown, which was made in 1661 and once belonged to Edward the Confessor. It is remarkably heavy, made of solid gold, and currently resides in the Crown Jewels collection at the Tower of London. The Archbishop of Canterbury will be given the honour of placing the crown on the King's head.

Will there be Coronation Souvenir Books for King Charles III's Coronation?
There will be all sorts of memorabilia produced for the Coronation, I?m sure, including books. When I was a child I remember my grandmother had a book of the Coronation of King George VI, heavy, with a gold cover. It contained the story of the run up to the Coronation as well, with the Abdication crisis and photos of Edward VIII and Mrs Simpson. I loved looking at it when I was younger.

Yes, it was lovely. I can see myself now looking through it as a child, in Grandma?s bedroom. When she died I was only a teenager. Her house was lived in by other relatives at the time and my uncle got it. I was in Australia then when he died. He had no children and I don?t know what happened to it after that. Shame!
The Gold State Coach has been used at the coronation of every monarch since George IV.
The gold state coach (http://www.intriguing-history.com/gold-state-coach-)
I doubt it will be used. Apparently it is horrible to ride in. The late Queen declared it a dreadful ride to her coronation. I think KC will use the glass coach, if he uses one at all. I see him more likely using one of cars.

Queen Elizabeth II had six coronation maids. Will Queen Camilla have coronation maids?
You can add that to a list of things unknown at this stage. The economy is not good, and we know that the King has been taking steps to slim things down; at the very least we can expect a less grand coronation than in the past. By the way, I read that Phillip tried very hard to make the 1953 coronation more streamlined and modern, but the Queen Mother and influential court figures thwarted him at every step. About the only thing he got his way on was having it televised. It always amazes me at how Prince Phillip was a man so way ahead of his time!
I like you have liked Prince Philip, I think he had a great sense of humor and could really read the public and then say something to make people gasp and the reporters go nuts with headlines......I got many of a huge laugh from him that I will miss very much.

The only reason I can think of as to why their might be attendants for the processions is that if the King and Queen are garbed in the long robes, there is a need to have assistance with yards/meters of trailing heavy fabric with the use of attendants. Now I am inclined to believe that Camilla might not be physically capable at this point in her life with a long trailing robe, so that aspect might be adapted to suit her physical comfort.

I also think the ceremony and procession outside will be very foreshortened for Charles in comparison to the Coronation of 1953. For one thing there was an Empire then and a fully active House of Lords.
Philip was indeed a man before his time in many ways, and some of the Queen?s senior courtiers and advisers had been with her father and grandfather.
However a couple of things to remember about that Coronation. Britain had only fairly recently gone through an exhausting and depleting Second World War. The Government were anxious to reinforce British prestige and remind other countries that they were among the victors and had been there unconquered, uninvaded, from beginning to end, from 1939 to 1945.
Another thing was that 1953 was still partly Austerity Britain. There were still bomb sites around (I can remember them) and rationing of all sorts of things had only just finished. Government and the Queen?s advisers felt that people needed a respite, a spot of colour and sparkle on a grey road back to prosperity. And in 1953 they got that. There are sometimes other things to consider besides economy and expense.

I honestly think King Charles coronation with Camilla, Queen consort will be pared down to William and Kate by their side.
Watching coronation videos available from George VI, Queen Elizabeth, from street travel, to procession, to standing by the side of the K and Q, this year or next year it will IMO be slimmed down, especially because Kwasi has just deliverd a brilliant economical package for the United Kingdom.
The Firm will be careful OR OR OR HM Government will make a big spending party to bring in billions. (it doesn't sound right to mention so early after HMQEII death, but the Queen's 12 day death Operation Unicorn, London Bridge brought in 1 Billion GBP; especially the Media, seconded by Hospitality Industry...one has to remember that behind each industry there are hundreds of thousands of 'employees' that bring the bacon to their families)

The Coronation cannot be slimmed down too much because a great deal of it consists of a religious form, such as anointing etc which is not only centuries old but vital.. The Sovereign doesn?t have people standing next to him/her other than the Archbishops and other clergy for much of the time. The Prince of Wales pays homage followed by the Royal Dukes and then other Peers in order of seniority, but otherwise does not play a formal role in the Coronation.

Queen Victoria had been a girl in her late teens at her Coronation, with all the youth and freshness that implies. Queen Alexandra was a Consort and a woman in her late 60s. She had been acknowledged as a great beauty earlier in her life, but I think it was natural for her not to want Peer?s daughters a quarter her age processing behind her, especially in an age of photography.
Whoops that should have been a woman of nearly 60 (in 1902) referring to Queen Alexandra. My maths skills are never at their best in the mornings!

Good that we now know the date. Virtually all the media were predicting June, and various others, including me!! thought a summer Coronation was on the cards. I admit to being surprised it?s early May. Spring can be lovely in England but early May can be just a bit unpredictable weather wise. I hope it doesn?t rain on the day! Unusual that it?s on a Saturday as well, but economically it makes sense.
If, as has been stated, it will be a cutdown ceremony of a little over an hour with much of the pomp and circumstance gone I think a lot of people will decide to stay at home and watch it on TV. London will be packed of course but some overseas tourists might think better of coming in early May rather than taking a summer holiday in Britain.
Incidentally, the Coronation falls on the Jewish Sabbath. Might be a problem for HM?s Jewish subjects.

:crown: I'm so pleased to know that there's finally a confirmed date for the Coronation of KCIII. It was no small feat to coordinate the calendars of the monarchy, the British Government, the Church of England and a myriad of other entities.
I expected that the timetable for the Coronation Service would be shortened in part due to the age of the primary participants KCIII and the QC. The actual coverage for the day though will likely be a few hours for the procession to WA and the return to BP. I also expect that the dress code for the Coronation will be more contemporary than it was in 1953. While I expect that the men will be in uniform, morning or lounge suits, I am very curious to see what the royal ladies will be wearing. It's possible that their dress code might be similar to the one for The Netherlands with long dresses/hats for the ladies.
I have faith that the Coronation for KCIII will be full of the pageantry and tradition associated with British Royal events as we just saw with the funeral for the late QEII but the timetable will be shorter than at her Coronation.

Well, if Charles insists on Camilla having this particular crown at the Coronation complete with the Koh-i-Noor then he can expect protests from the Commonwealth about it, and it probably won?t include just India.
Good grief, the lacking of intelligence of the human race all over a darn diamond as if that diamond will change the entire world or the circumstances of anyone involved. Those shouting in protest have nothing better to do with their lives over a diamond they will never own let alone wear.....don't they have better things, more important issues to deal with like hunger, medical or a roof over their heads. Maybe some just like their names in the news to make them feel important and more important ....the PM of India needs to take care of his country and the poor people in it before he makes waves of a diamond.

The problem is however that India and the UK are in the middle of a massively important trade deal at the moment. The UK is in perilous waters economically and the authorities won?t want any controversy. Camilla could in theory wear the crown with the Koh-i-Noor removed and another stone substituted.
I am looking forward to May 2023. The Coronation is right around the corner, lots of planning to do before then.

Regardless of a diamond or not, what does a trade deal have to do with that diamond? I bet 99.99% of the human race that was alive during the British Occupation of India when that diamond was given to Queen Victoria are dead and gone, so to me some are using this diamond as an EXCUSE to make trouble for this trade deal. That diamond regardless of who wants it back is NOT going anywhere.....India and any other country can shout and make trouble all they want, yet it is staying in the crown jewels of the British Royal Family. Everything about that diamond being given to QV is history and in the past and that can not be changed ever and can not be rewritten. When there are tooooooooooooooooooooooo many cooks in the kitchen then the meal is burnt so this trade deal needs to be simplified and toss some cooks out and let the main character do the job without the issue of this diamond.

By the way, Charles has to bow to the UK Govt and keep to a budget for his Coronation. This little titbit caught my eye just now when I was looking for something else.
https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-9412/
As it is a state event, a coronation is paid for by the UK Government. Organisation involves ministers, the Royal Household, the Church of England and the Commonwealth Realms. A Privy Council ?Coronation Committee? is formed to oversee the planning, and its Executive Committee is chaired by the Earl Marshal, an hereditary office of state. This can take several months. A monarch also has significant influence on the form a coronation takes.
That wouldn?t have pleased that vain old tart King George IV who went all out on his costly Coronation robes and Abbey accoutrements. However since 1830 monarchs have had to largely dance to the Govt of the day?s piper.
Vain old tart?
I've never seen tart used for a man, except by Del boy.

Never watched Only Fools and Horses though I?ve heard of ?Del boy?. However I?ve always used it for the Prince Regent/George IV. I think the epiphet suits him.
Del uses it to abuse his dopey brother Rodney, and it has a bit of a feminine ring to it. True George IV was vain but he was not a woman...
Anyway re teh Coronation of course there is a budget as the Govt (or rather the taxpayer) pays for it. so of course there are going to be limits on what can be spent.

All the articles linked are speculation by so called ?royal experts? and journalists about Charles and his son and the Sussexes attending the Coronation.
Note that at least one of these articles says No (with of course Angela Levin letting loose once again about them. How?s the book about Camilla going, Ms Levin?) while the other, with Marlene Koenig says Yes.
So once again the Express is having a two way bet, in other words its journalists don?t know a thing but lets bash this couple anyway, for the hell of it! You couldn?t make this stuff up, but British tabloid journalists still try!
I doubt Harry and Meghan will miss this very historical event (if invited).
The couple have placed themselves in a very hard place by publicly trashing the BRF, Charles. So the outcome will be very interesting, the media worldwide will be reporting it of course.
Harry is King Charles?s son and I believe that he (and Meghan) will be there. They are members of the royal family, and there?s no reason why they shouldn?t be there. The invitations have almost certainly already been sent out to everyone attending.
I believe that the Sussexes will be issued an invitation to attend the Coronation. Now what type of role Prince Harry will have in the ceremony will have to remain to be seen as he's no longer a senior royal who is an official representative of the monarchy/government.
I think with the Sussexes it will be an IF until come 6th May 2023 (or a few weeks before). Only if either party makes an official announcement.

Children of the monarch, even adult children, don?t really have a role to play at a Coronation. The sole duty of royal Dukes is to pay homage in the homage of Peers to the new Monarch. That would be William, followed by Harry, then the other royal Dukes Andrew and Edward (who may well be Duke of Edinburgh by then. Being an official representative of the monarchy has nothing to do with the Homage part of the ceremony, which will be foreshortened I think.
And sorry but I believe you?re wrong about Harry no longer being a senior royal. There was a serious ongoing discussion about what comprised a senior royal on the big royal forum not so long ago and monarch?s sons, it was agreed, are certainly senior royals.

Don?t think so. The guest list for Coronations are made available to the media in the run up to Coronations, and that doesn?t mean immediately before.
I prefer to wait and see, especially official announcements in reference to who is who for this very historical event.

Camilla (despite the half a dozen media push in re to the Kohinoor diamond) and Kate will probably wear this at the Coronation. Can't wait for the date to see what each lady will wear.
Kate won?t be wearing a crown to Charles?s Coronation. If you look at the one in 1953 all the royal ladies bar the Aueen wore tiaras. And as for crowns, at the moment it?s debatable as to which crown Camilla will be wearing as the Koh-I-Noor debate rumbles on.
Clearly William as Prince of Wales will have a very public role in the coronation. There's suggestions he will be on the coronation committee. Some 'experts' suggest he will be be the only person to swear his allegiance to the king.
I have no doubt Harry and Meghan will be invited but have no formal role whatsoever.

The Waleses will have a big job for Charles and Camilla coronation. With the slimming down of the Monarchy and cutting costs here and there, it's not a mid or large train of BRF members involved - attending take a seat. So it's up to the foursome to make it as much pomp and pageantry as possible.

I don?t think so. It was a silver gilt thing whipped up for the Coronation by Garrards and it and Margaret?s coronet was made for children?s heads. Eleven year olds and seven year olds heads respectively.
It won't be a first for crowns, coronets, tiaras being adjusted. Source: Royal Collection
All Peers, royal and otherwise, wear coronets for part of the ceremony however. In the link below is one made for Prince George (later George V) at his father?s Coronation in 1902. It was later worn by Edward (later Duke of Windsor) at George V?s 1911 Coronation. If it remains in good nick William will probably wear that one (second one down in the link.) However, I?ve been unable to track down Mary?s 1902 coronet, a smaller version of George?s. It might not be in existence any more.
what type of crown/tiara/coronet and robes will... - Tiara Mania (https://tiaramania.tumblr.com/post/179933704234/what-type-of-crowntiaracoronet-and-robes-will)
However Kate is likely to wear something like that which she will place on her own head as Camilla is crowned. Peers do that when the King is crowned, Peeresses (including royal ladies) immediately following when a Queen Consort is crowned.
That is, if the entire ritual is followed, which it may well not be.
This is an old photo of the 1902 Coronation and you can?t see it very clearly, but at the ceremony tiaras are worn by Peeresses and then when the Queen Consort is crowned the coronet (smaller than the Peers? ones) is placed at the back of one?s head, behind the tiara.
Found a photos of the future Queen Mary?s 1902 coronet.

However, like I said this part of the ceremony will probably be cut.
Because the Coronation will have cost cuts here and there, as I said it's just my feeling that the obvious foursome will be made and carried out for the pomp and pageantry. Kate is the Princess of Wales, not a Countess of Oxford. I feel the committee will think long term future, Kate will be Queen and then a Queen Mother.
I put that photo there to show how the tiara is set forward on the head and the coronet behind it. The Countess is wearing the same arrangement as all the royal ladies did at Queen Elizabeth?s Coronation in 1953. I?ve seen photos of the royal women wearing that same arrangement in that ceremony, including the Princess Royal. Exactly the same. George?s wife Mary wore it that way in 1902. She was wife to the heir then Queen Consort and then mother to two Kings.
Sorry, It?s not going to be a crowning of William and Kate next May!

Well, we shall see! There has been talk of all female royals and others in long dresses and tiaras only without ermine robes, or even hats and gowns similar to what was worn by the Queen at Margaret?s wedding. A coronet of any description would look mighty strange on top of that!
And if the old tradition is kept, then Meghan, Anne, Sophie and Brigette, etc will also don coronets.

Well the Big Royal Forum and I don't always agree and this is one of those situations where I will agree to disagree with them. While Prince Harry is certainly the son of KCIII and currently fifth in the line of succession, as per the Sussex Royal announcement of January 2020, he's chosen to step back and not to be a senior working royal who is an official representative of the monarchy and of the government. :)
It will be interesting to see who participates in the paying homage portion of the coronation as I'm not sure if the DoY would be part of that group as he's no longer IMHO a senior working royal who is an official representative of the monarchy and the government, though I believe he will be issued an invitation. However he might come down with a convenient health issue right before the coronation. At the very least, I believe that it will need to be adapted for the shorter timetable of the ceremony. If the Dukes of Kent and Gloucester participate in the homage, then I would anticipate that the DoK would not be required to kneel.
^ Agree, in tune with modern era.
Same with this new Coronation, IMO some things will be retained with new slimmed down elements. Focusing on the Foursome in their 'order' with the obvious emphasis on the crowning of the King and Queen Consort, seconded by the PPOWs. My POV is the King made sure hours after the Queen's death/first speech announcement naming the PPOWs, official picturing of the foursome, giving domination and power access to the PPOW's, those details large and small are hard to escape the vision of what's to come. The other 'working' senior royal ladies will be wearing tiaras.
The Big Forum had the George IV diadem as a suggestion for the Queen Consort to wear to Westminster Abbey. If she's comfortable in it, then I believe it would be an outstanding and regal choice for her to wear. Camilla can carry the big tiaras/diadems. I don't expect Lady Louise or Zara Tindall to be in tiaras.
What do you mean, ?seconded by Kate and William?? They aren?t going to be crowned as co-monarchs! All Coronations that have had a married Prince of Wales have had the Princess of Wales to the side playing no part in the formal ceremony and a Prince of Wales paying homage and that?s all. George and Mary didnt. The Govt aren?t going to the added expense of having four people crowned! And Princesses of Wales wore tiaras and small coronets. Probably be tiaras only for Kate, Meghan, Anne and Sophie in 2023.
In fact it isn?t likely that this Coronation will even have ermine robes and train for anybody but the King and Queen. There?s more and more talk of ordinary smart day wear for most of the 2,000 guests and that may well include people like Eugenie and Bea, the Gloucesters and the Kents.
Forgot one senior working royal lady who deserves a tiara mention. If she wears one then I'm guessing that Princess Alexandra will be wearing the Ogilvy tiara. The Ogilvy Tiara (https://www.thecourtjeweller.com/2018/12/the-ogilvy-tiara.html)
I don't think we'll ever see Meghan in a tiara again. Just like with the Queen's funeral, I'm sure Charles is going to make it clear to Harry that stepping down from the monarchy has it's consequences. That includes no uniform for Harry and no bling for Meghan.
Neither William nor King Charles will be wearing military uniforms at the Coronation either. And most people, even those that don?t like her, recognise that Meghan is, as the King?s daughter in law, third lady in the land in terms of precedence. Alexandra, the York sisters and the others, including Anne, aren?t.
Meghan lives in California. She's not the third lady in the land. Charles loves them but also recognises they are family but not 'Royal Family'. We'll see the Duchess of Gloucester blinged out before we ever see Meghan in a tiara. Can we just imagine the milage she'd get out of it. The tiara event would have it's own podcast.
I wonder if the foreign royals will follow a dress code similar to the one seen at King W-A's ascension? By tradition, it will be the adult heirs to the throne attending or other family members but not reigning monarchs.

I wonder if the foreign royals will follow a dress code similar to the one seen at King W-A's ascension? By tradition, it will be the adult heirs to the throne attending or other family members but not reigning monarchs.
I certainly can?t see reigning monarchs coming to this Coronation. Even in 1953 when the guest list was huge the only reigning monarch to be present was Queen Salote of Tonga, and that was only because she reigned over a Commonwealth nation. That doesn?t mean though that Imo Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands or ex Queen Sophie of Spain couldn?t possibly appear.

This article is so muddled I don?t know where to begin! In the text it refers to ?the Turkish stone? and says it was gifted after support by the British in the Crimean War. Wrong! And it says ?it was made? for the 1937 Coronation?. What was? The Koh-I- Noor certainly wasn?t lol, neither was the crown.
There?s no mention in the text of the Koh I Noor?s true provenance nor why it was gifted to Queen Victoria in the 1840?s by the East India Company. Victoria, who was crowned in 1837 never wore it in her crown. In fact she wore it mounted as a brooch and there are several photos of her wearing it as such when she was an old lady.
And given recent controversies about colonialism and Imperialism in the Caribbean Commonwealth nations I can certainly see another stone substituted for the Koh-I-Noor to assuage Indian and Pakistani sensitivities.

QuoteSeveral notable objects and regalia feature in British coronations. While the Imperial State Crown and the Orb and the Sceptre are the most discussed pieces, another item used in the Coronation ceremony is nearly 800 years old and has been used in every coronation since its creation in the thirteenth century.
The Coronation Chair can be seen on display at Westminster Abbey when not in use for coronation ceremonies. King Edward I ordered the chair to be created in 1297- its specific purpose was to hold the Stone of Scone, a Scottish stone used in Scottish coronations until it was seized in 1296.
It is made out of oak and features elaborate Gothic carvings. Although it was originally gilded, the gilding has since worn off.
For some reason, the chair was varnished in preparation for Queen Victoria?s coronation in 1838, severely damaging the outside of the chair. After the event, Parliament did call an inquest into how it happened, but unfortunately, the chair was then damaged further when the varnish was stripped.
The Coronation Chair has been used by every monarch during their coronation since 1399, except for Queen Mary II. She was crowned in a joint ceremony with her husband and co-ruler, King William III, and William sat on the Coronation Chair.
This chair is an incredibly important item used during the ceremony. This is where the monarch is sitting when they are invested with their regalia and crowned during the ceremony.
Other chairs and thrones are often made for coronation ceremonies. The throne made for Queen Elizabeth II?s 1953 coronation is now in the Garter Throne Room at Windsor Castle, and her parents? 1937 thrones are in the Throne Room at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. However, it is the Coronation Chair that is a constant at all British coronations.

archive.ph (https://archive.ph/8lNtb)
Well considering that KCIII's reign is likely to be shorter than his predecessors, his successor is likely to model his own coronation/ascension ceremony after the one his father will have in 2023. So it seems logical to have William involved with the planning. Of the recent European ceremonies, the one for King W-A of The Netherlands in 2013 is likely to be one of the few that involves a long guest list, a procession of members of a royal family and government officials , a more formal dress code a royal robe etc.. but even W-A did not wear the crown. Most of Charles' European peers' ceremonies have been streamlined events where there is an oath taken in front of elected officials, a parade, a balcony appearance and on occasion a religious service.
The great difference between the British and the European monarchs is of course that the Anglican Church (the Church of England) is practically the Church of State and the monarch is always the Supreme Governor. Therefore the religious ceremony (anointing and so on) at Coronations is not only replete with symbolism but also is a unique blend of Church and State. This may well change in the future with a split between the two elements. However it will be quite difficult for Charles (or William) for that matter to change the rituals too much as things stand at the moment.
Incidentally, and I meant to post this earlier, several ?expert? astrologers have already called the date ?inauspicious? as a full moon occurs on May 6th (can cause erratic and overwrought behaviour) and also Mercury is retrograde from late April 2023 until mid May.
Some astrologers have gone OTT themselves when investigating the charts and are claiming that there is likely to be a postponement (a la Edward VII) or cancellation.
I wouldn?t go that far myself, but it is quite odd that communications of all sorts (both international and regional) do tend to go awry when Mercury is retro. So perhaps arrangements both verbal and written might cause difficulties. It can also mean glitches in things like international satellites.

That is a good point
@Curryong. While the some of the Catholic monarchies and principalities will incorporate a Mass close to the ascension ceremony, the connection of the British monarch and the Church of England does play a significant role in the Coronation.

From Queen Anne?s coronation in 1702 until King Edward VII?s coronation in 1902, St. Edward?s Crown was present at the ceremony but not actually worn. Queen Victoria?s son had hoped to wear it but was recovering from a serious illness and could not handle the significant weight of the crown. Edward?s son, King George V, revived the tradition of the monarch wearing the crown during their coronation.

so are you saying that none of the Monarchs from Queen Anne onwards atually wore the crown during hte ceremony? did they wear another crown? why for example did Victoria not wear the crown? She was a young woman and should have been able to, surely? Edw VII was recovering from his operation and was not all that well, so it is understandable that he might have had ot forgo wearing the crown

I?m not saying anything, just posting something I wasn?t aware of before, from an article I read yesterday and posted.
My first thoughts when I read that were actually that it was an extraordinarily long time for a crown to just repose on a cushion during Coronations. My second was surprise that the Hanoverian Kings hadn?t bothered to wear it. George III for example was a young and sturdy man. William IV was an ex naval officer and although middle aged was surely healthy enough to wear such a crown (although he disliked ritual and didn?t really want a ceremonial Coronation.)
I?m a bit surprised at Victoria not doing so but maybe the decision was made for her that such a tiny young female couldn?t be expected to bear such a heavy load on her little head (ethos of the day!) Of course Edward VII was in rather poor physical condition aside from the appendix op.
sO Im not very clear. I presume the crown was placed on hte head of the monarch, but then removed so that they did not have to wear it throughout the ceremony?

The article isn?t very clear. What was copied in my post is what was in the article. But yes, that?s what I took from it. George IV though had a completely new coronet made. I?ll have to take a look at the bio of him (and Queen VIC) on my Kindle and look up those Coronations. That still doesn?t solve what the others did about the St Edward?s Crown however.

St. Edward?s Crown | European Royal History (https://europeanroyalhistory.wordpress.com/tag/st-edwards-crown/)
From the article
Only six monarchs have been crowned with St Edward?s Crown since the Restoration: Charles II (1661), James II (1685), William III (1689), George V (1911), George VI (1937) and Elizabeth II (1953). Mary II and Anne were crowned with small diamond crowns of their own; George I, George II, George III and William IV with the State Crown of George I; George IV with a large new diamond crown made specially for the occasion; and Queen Victoria and Edward VII chose not to use St. Edward?s Crown because of its weight and instead used the lighter 1838 version of the Imperial State Crown. When not used to crown the monarch, St Edward?s Crown was placed on the altar during the coronation; however, it did not feature at all at the coronation of Queen Victoria.
Ah that seems to make much more sense. Thanks for looking it up. wonder if Charles will use it, if it is heavy. He's reasonably fit for his age but he isnt a young man.

This is interesting. I was wondering why there had been such a long period of time in which the monarchs were not wearing the crown during their coronations. Though I have to say that the first thing that came to mind was the weight of the crown.
Yes, I think it is interesting, especially that so many monarchs from the Stuarts to the late Queen?s great-grandfather chose an assortment of other adornments for their heads rather than the Restoration copy of the crown supposedly worn by Anglo-Saxon Kings.
William III, who really only came to the British throne courtesy of his cousin-wife, chose the St Edward?s while his wife contented herself with some bejewelled diadem at their crowning in 1689, and then it was slim pickings for this very heavy crown until the 20th century and King George V. That is an extraordinary amount of time for a symbol of kingship to be brought out and then just plonked on the altar at all Coronations between times, bar Victoria?s where it didn?t even appear!
As for King Charles III I think he will try to bear the St Edward?s, but whether he will decide in the end to wear something lighter for the (rumoured much shorter) ceremony, who knows!

QuoteBuckingham Palace has announced that King Charles III?s coronation will take place on Saturday, 6th May 2023.
It is expected The King will be crowned at a smaller ceremony than that which took place on June 2nd 1953 for his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. And the guest list at Her Late Majesty?s Coronation provides some hints as to who can be expected to attend the crowning of King Charles III.
It is rare for other monarchs to attend the Coronation of a Sovereign. Instead, representatives from their family may attend. In 1953, for example, the then Crown Prince of Norway, Olav, attended on behalf of his father, King Haakon VII. Denmark sent Prince Axel while Sweden?s royals sent the Duke of Halland and Belgium was represented by the Prince of Liege, later King Albert II.
It is likely to be a very different guest list from that seen at Westminster Abbey for the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II when sovereigns from Europe and all around the world were in attendance.
Family links also play a part. It is possible that non-reigning royals could be asked given strong family ties so we may see members of the Greek Royal Family, although it seems unlikely that King Constantine will be making the trip from Greece. The Tsar of Bulgaria, the Crown Prince of Serbia and the Custodian of the Crown of Romania, among others could also be at the Abbey.
The Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, which took place on the 2nd of June 1953, is the last concrete example the public can base their hypotheses about what will happen on the 6th of May 2023.
And His Majesty has stated that, although the ceremony will be rooted in tradition, there will also be elements that will make it an event that keeps in mind the entire group of people of whom he will be becoming King.
One of the changes in this Coronation could be the presence of representatives from charities that King Charles has close ties to.
However, there could also be a possibility for the Coronation to be more similar to the accession ceremonies that took place in Belgium and Spain in 2013 and 2014 respectively, where no foreign Royals were present, and the focus was solely on the constitutional transition from one Monarch to the next.
Only time (and specifically the 200 days that separate us from the ceremony) will tell exactly what the Coronation ceremony will look like.

I'm sure Prince Phillip will have discussed with his son his frustration as he tried to modernize Queen Elizabeth's coronation and was thwarted at almost every step. (At least, this is what I have read in many biographies and books on the BRF.) With that and his own mature ideas the coronation will probably (imho) reflect his own idea of what his reign will be like, i.e., representatives of charitable organizations, strong emphasis on the Commonwealth, family, traditional pageantry (but not over the top) and possible representatives of countries with whom GB has close ties. I'm sure it will maintain the religious significance that he was brought up to respect, and there will be some traditional but important details....I wonder if the royal dukes will have a prominent place as they had in previous coronations. That would mean Kent, York, Sussex, Gloucester, and hopefully Edinburgh.

They may, but it?s doubtful in a foreshortened service as it appears this one will be. And for one it was peers who traditionally called that out straight after the crowning in past Coronations. I doubt it. What was considered suitable in 1902 would be considered superfluous today and this Coronation?s pomp and ceremony are likely to be cut to the bone.
It will be simplified, but I wouldnt say cut to the bone. probalby by the tiem Will becomes King, a coronation will be dispensed with, but I think Charles will try to have a compromise between some glamour but not more expensive than it has to be.

King Charles' Coronation Crown Leaves the Tower of London (https://people.com/royals/king-charles-coronation-crown-leaves-the-tower-of-london/)
If it has left the Tower it will be for practice runs of what will happen on the day and then returned for the next time. Charles may try the Crown on for a few hours and if he ultimately decides it will be easier to use a lighter one (as Victoria and Edward VII did) then St Edward?s may well be at the Coronation as observer and symbol, on a cushion by the altar. Queen Elizabeth tried her Crown on several times for hours at a time as well. And everything else connected with the Crown and the ceremony will be meticulously practised again and again, including transportation to and from the Tower and the Abbey. This is a very precious object indeed and mishaps will hopefully be avoided.
I know they?re saying that St Edward?s is THE one, and I?m sure it will be, but this is a 74 year old we?re talking about and any health and strength issues will mean a change.
What did they mean by "adjustment" of the crown? Perhaps to check that the stones and pearls are secure. Surely they can't make it smaller or larger, but maybe replacing the ermine or adding more padding to it if it is too big.

Adjusting the band inside that rests on the head. Making sure all the jewels are attached tightly. A good cleaning. They certainly don?t want it to fall apart. ER2 got away with it on her wedding day but fixing that tiara was fairly simple compared to StE crown

The band inside is probably still a bit tight as the last person to wear the Crown was the late Queen. That can easily be adjusted though. It?s the weight of the thing that might be a problem. I bet the Queen, even though she was young and fit, had a sore neck for a couple of days in 1953 following the Coronation. However, if Charles has only to wear the Crown for an hour or two he will probably feel that?s OK.
Yes, I think the ermine, the jewels, will all be checked. Don?t want any baubles falling off underfoot, as happened in 1936 when one fell into a gutter as the crown was being transported on the top of George V?s coffin!
I?m more interested actually about what bits of the actual ceremony Charles and his committee are going to consider superfluous and unnecessary. At the moment I would put money on peers and their wives not wearing ermine trimmed robes, coronets, tiaras or gowns. Pages, male and female attendants may be cut down. The sermon, if there is one, will be very short imo, and the amount of music played will probably be halved. The actual anointing etc is likely to be kept as it is the essential core of the ceremony.

The King is so into music that I think there will be a fair bit. I think you are right about the peers - and the royal dukes all paid a part in the past, which can be eliminated. That might be the tactful thing to do considering Harry and Andrew's situations. I love the pomp and ceremony, so I hope gowns and tiaras will be worn.

Who knows, but I wouldn?t think so. Those colouring books were very 1950s, manufactured at a time and place when people believed the royal family, including the monarch, were faultless beings who could do no wrong. And children were brought up to believe in the myth.
That is sad as coloring books are fun and relaxing. I have coloring books of butterflies, sit for about half hour just coloring and it helps to relax me from stress. I got an interest in butterflies because of my ex father in law who was a world famous butterfly collector, he had thousands and thousands of butterflies from around the world......they are breathtaking indeed. There is a famous butterfly museum in Sarasota Fa that he gave his collection to when he past away. If I had known of HM's coloring book I would of bought it right there and then. Coloring books are like doing needlework, peaceful time and easy to do while relaxing.

If King Charles III does not invite Prince Henry and Meghan to the Coronation, hopefully he will not be condemned for doing so.
^There is a book that I think King Charles needs to read, it is all about getting rid of the toxin people in your life regardless of who they are. It is called *Learning to Love Yourself* By Sharon Wegscheider-Cruse. It is all about finding *your* self worth in life for you are important also in your own right. Charles is a parent (like most of us) and he has a child who is an adult who is acting out with anger, hate and meanness towards him and the family......NObody deserves what Harry is going to his family, Charles did not abuse his son, did not deny him in life, he did his best under extreme circumstances when Diana died, Charles is not perfect as no one is, yet he made mistakes like we all do. What Harry is doing is ON Harry, not his dad. Harry is an adult and knows right from wrong, he is acting like a spoiled brat that he is for not getting his way with the *half in half out* that he and Meghan thought they could have.
Tell just how much more emotional and verbal abuse does one have to take from their child when they are adults in life? Did Charles throw Harry in a dungeon (which he should at this point imho) or did he deny him Meghan........if anyone remembers Charles walked Meghan half way down the aisle on her wedding day and here his son is betraying him and the family for what????????????
I know all this from personal experience, in fact I was in Charles shoes (just not a royal family but a loving family) with someone who abused their family with unbelievable horror of lies and deceit for over 30 years, yep it took that long to help a member of my family and in the end....this book really set me straight in my life on what I needed to do to regain Me and I did just that.....someone did not like it yet it sure did work and help the situation.
Think I will buy another copy and send it to King Charles first class, registered return receipt requested...........

What crisis meeting? The only person to suggest at all that there would be any crisis meeting was one journalist in a tabloid story, and that was in the run up to the documentary series about Harry and Meghan. A series btw in which the tabloid media suggested, without any evidence at all, that Harry would be ranting about his stepmother throughout, causing a row with Charles in which Charles would immediately strip Harry of his titles and ban him from the Coronation, the British media?s fervent wish. Camilla was in fact named only once in all the episodes, without a criticism of her, and if you blinked you would have missed it.

Tied to seating and most importantly the oath, which is the most important job of the children of a King who will be crowned: I suppose William who is part of the Coronation organization team will have to do a add on with a possible no show of H (like the Jubilee activities as I undertstand, wherever they were to be seated with a * to who x2 would cover empty seats, they skipped all the other events minus Westminster)

Coronation Oath
The King is enthroned (process of being purified and hallowed in the anointing), and the bishops (usually Bath, Wells and Durham) and prince (s) present kneel before him in homage. The Prince (s) swear this oath of lifelong loyalty:
''I do become your liege man of life and limb, and of earthly worship: and faith and truth I will bear unto you to live and die against all manner of folks. So help me God''. (loud and clear in unison)

Right! Even if it is extremely unusual for two known adulterers to be crowned at the same ceremony, I think Anthony Holden is obsessed with this episode in King Charles?s life quite frankly, and like it says in the article it?s time he moved on. What?s more he?s mistaken in Church law on the subject. C+C confessed their sins of adultery at the Church blessing following their civil wedding. The idea that a Coronation would be invalid because of infidelity over 30 years ago is truly bizarre.
If there was to be an issue with the CoE, it would have been brought up WAY before now. The RF works on long term plans. They would have dealt with this decades ago. And the CoE wouldn?t not have married them if there was an issue. Not to mention this is not 1850s with Victorian ideal. It?s 2023. The mind set has changed.

This is my opinion and feelings about this issue, of all the people involved in it, the royal family as a whole the one I really hurt for and in my heart I know just how Charles is feeling about his son...it is Charles. He is the parent of this child who is an adult now and there is absolutely nothing he can do about it in the way of helping Harry, absolutely nothing. Harry is a grown man, laws says he can make his own life, make his own decisions, live his life the way he wants and even though Harry is on a vengeful warpath against him and the family, nothing can be done for Harry, Harry has to hit bottom on his own, Charles has to be damn tough and honest and straightforward with Harry and just let Harry rage and be as mean and nasty as he wants till he hits that damn bottom and you pray he survives it. Some do and lots don't. I know for a fact Charles is suffering deeply and wondering and feeling guilty about all the mistakes he made as a parent, NO parent is perfect ever....not even Harry is a perfect father for if he was he would not be doing this to his family now.
I spent 35 years of my life in the same situation as Charles, my child was hell bent on living her own life on her terms when she was a teenager.......it almost destroyed me as a human being, there is NOTHING out there that I won't do for her, I followed all the rules of the law, the doctors, the mental health professionals, the family church, the teachers, if someone told me to do that or this to help her I did it....and she pulled some of the same tricks I see Harry doing with his family. Lots of family have a child who will never listen to anyone, everyone in my family, my beloved sister who was the kindest sweetest lady on this earth finally got to me heart and I let go....her rage and anger was at me......not her dad, he had the checkbook and tons of money so she never attacked him, yet it was me, her mother that got the brunt of her rage and anger at the world, she was spoiled and had the best of everything in life, you name it she had it, jewels, clothes, cars, vacations and nothing pleased her.....just like Harry now, what will make him happy, content, at peace ...right now not even his wife whom he says he loves deeply, his children whom he is hurting as they can feel his rage without him showing it to them.....I can only imagine his household, tension and walking on egg shells and jumping at every sound....so my daughter lost her life due to a blood clot in the brain.....yelling one minute and gone the next....died being angry at her mom for not getting her own way again.....I would not wish this hell on any parent....as Deb would tell me so many times, she is adult and it is her choice to live as she pleases even when she are hurting and won't talk about her pain....just let go and let God.....that I did so I could survive for me finally.
I wonder what is going on inside of Harry....doing certain things I see and read makes me question his mental health at this time....someone needs to get to him and help him as this is so unhealthy for his family now.
Mods..if this is in the wrong place, please remove elsewhere....I put this here as it is the thread for Charles.

KCIII is reportedly making a significant change to the Coronation ceremony and therefore his male relatives who are royal dukes/earl (Sussex, York, Wessex, Gloucester/Kent) will not be required to kneel and pay homage to him. The Prince of Wales will be the only one to participate in that role.
King Charles removes the requirement for royal dukes to kneel before him and pay homage at his Coronation ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/uk/king/king-charles-removes-the-requirement-for-royal-dukes-to-kneel-before-him-and-pay-homage-at-his-coronation-185369/)
QuoteAccording to The Sunday Times, The King has decided against having his male relatives kneel before him.
This is in contrast to times gone by where dukes were expected to pay homage to the monarch and pledge their allegiance to the sovereign.
At Queen Elizabeth II?s Coronation in 1953, the Duke of Edinburgh paid homage, followed by the Duke of Kent and the Duke of Gloucester.
Due to the change, Duke of York, the Duke of Sussex, the Duke of Kent and the Duke of Gloucester will play no formal role in the ceremony.
The Prince of Wales, however, will still be required to pay homage to The King, kneeling before his feet.
A very smart move on King Charles's part, the homage should have always been heir to heir, William to his dad King Charles and George to his dad King William someday far off into the future. Very well done indeed!

I totally agree. It is sad, however, that the other royal dukes will not be able to show the traditional family unity. Kent and Gloucester have been so faithful all these decades and I wish they could have this traditional role in the Coronation. It will certainly be poignant when the Prince of Wales makes his oath.
Thank you, I totally agree with you about the Dukes of Kent and Gloucester. I have liked them for decades and read about them when I could. Each as an heir which is good to keep their heritage intact. I like heritage and families that find theirs goes back hundreds of years. Any news on or if Edward and Sophie will get the Duchy of Edinburgh?
The current Duke of Kent did participate in his cousin's coronation in 1953 and was the third person to swear fealty to her that day. The Dukes of Edinburgh and the previous Duke of Gloucester (Elizabeth and Edward's uncle Henry) proceeded the 17 year old Edward Kent. The current Duke of Gloucester did not swear fealty as he was only around 8 years old at the time.
Honestly due to the 87 year old Duke of Kent's mobility issues, it would not be an easy task for him to kneel at Charles' feet to swear the fealty oath. It's possible that at 78, the Duke of Gloucester is content to have the Prince of Wales take on this role representing Charles' titled male relatives.

Duke of Kent says the Queen's Coronation was 'daunting' and 'overpowering' | Daily Mail Online (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-10772569/Duke-Kent-says-Queens-Coronation-daunting-overpowering.html)
Quotehe Duke of Kent has labelled his role in the Queen's Coronation in 1953 'daunting' - and admitted his 'chief anxiety was that I'd forget my lines' in his upcoming memoir.
In his new book 'A Royal Life,' Her Majesty's cousin, 86, details the events following his uncle King George VI's death at Sandringham at the age of 56 - including the Queen's Coronation, reported The Telegraph.
He recalls in his memoir, set for release later this month, how he was nervous about his lines after being told he would have a prominent role in the ceremony.
Then aged 17, the Duke was informed he would be seated in front of the peers alongside his cousin Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, and his uncle, Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, as one of the three royal dukes who would pay homage to the Queen after the Archbishop of Canterbury.
'My chief anxiety was that I would forget my lines. I had been given the impression that I had to remember them so I had learned them by heart,' he recalls.

When I was a child I remember my grandmother had a book of the Coronation of King George VI, heavy, with a gold cover. It contained the story of the run up to the Coronation as well, with the Abdication crisis and photos of Edward VIII and Mrs Simpson. I loved looking at it when I was younger.
That would have been something I would have enjoyed, too. When we were breaking up my parents-in-law's house I brought home a commemorative compact from George V and Mary 's coronation. It still has some face powder in it, but some of the enamel has chipped off. I think it was well used, though it is still in the original presentation box. It's nice to have but isn't the same as something you can look at again and again. You were lucky!
Harry and Meghan 'will be invited to coronation of King Charles but are not expected to attend' | Daily Mail Online (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11619979/Harry-Meghan-invited-coronation-King-Charles-not-expected-attend.html)
Now why would they stay home, this is one of the biggest events of history and they need to be seen and heard so I expect them to be there and yelling at Charles to make a fool of him as we all know Harry hates his dad and brother. This will help promote them in the eyes of their fans and the world.

On which public occasion have Harry or Meghan yelled at any other member of the royal family let alone Charles? And when have they ever disobeyed protocol regarding Charles when in public? None.
Well they have to do something to keep themselves in the news as they need that constant attention from their fans, they are like so many on social media, they need to be valuated to feel important so why not cause problems for Charles at his coronation, after all look at all the problems they are causing now, so it will be nothing new for them to make Charles and William suffer some more. Nothing they do surprises me anymore in regards to what they do to make trouble or to throw someone under the bus. They are extremely good at that as they have proven to the entire world. And now LYING is a form of *art* to them, they surely can't remember all the lies so just make another one. I don't think they realize that everything they say or do can be FACT checked for the truth......when was the last *truth* they told. Like now when Harry says he was told when Queen Mom died.......I just shake my head in disbelief over that one for I remember seeing Harry with his dad on the slopes at that time.

I'm a royal expert - there are many historical reasons why King Charles should not invite Harry to the Coronation | The Sun (https://www.thesun.co.uk/fabulous/21015215/king-charles-not-invite-harry-coronation/)
Confirmed from Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace that Sussex will not welcome to King Charles?s coronation due bombshell claims, embarrassing the members of the royal family and also King Charles and Queen Camilla what Harry claims in his books but Prince Harry broke rules and he cross the line im sure royal experts was corrects but Harry wouldn?t allowed tell all interview included his tell all books and interview is forbidden!! But Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace still silent about Harry?s memoir books and also Netflix not without present from palace attorney
I?m so embarrassed about Prince Harry?s interview on 60 minutes, good morning America and Stephen Colbert but im still silent on Harry?s articles for 24/7 hours im guaranteed Harry wouldn?t allowed write his books about his private personal life,Meghan, children, military and mores but Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace is correct about Harry?s memoir is humiliated!! But I didn?t add Harry?s articles more embarrassed
^I really hope that is true, the entire royal family should just leave Harry alone as they are doing now, let him live his life and just shut the door and lock it with deadbolts. They can never trust him again nor Meghan and if that was Harry's goal to bomb any bridge back then he blew that bridge sky high in a zillion pieces. He betrayed his family, his heritage, his family traditions, his country and his grandparents whom he claims to love, if that is his way of saying I love you Grannie, then shut that door in his face as there is no trust ever again. Besides who wants that kind of love as it is poison.
That interview with Stephen Colbert was the worst ever, it really showed Harry in a bad light and Colbert was making fun of him and he did not even get it, and TH, what an idiot doling that, whose feet was he kissing last night. If Harry did this all for money then that is a very poor excuse indeed. I never liked Colbert and this just proves to me that I should not waste my time watching these shows ever again.
well of course he's doing ti for money, but it is obvious htat Harry has had a long standing grudge against his brother, and is now taking his opportunity to attack him...
I'm inclined to believe the couple will not receive an invitation.

Yes Harry admit write in the books and attacks on his own family and include his own brother the Prince William not necessarily for that but Harry didn?t hug his own dad the King Charles after Princess Diana?s death im so shocked Harry tell all on books how dare,Harry!!

But members of royal family and include Majesty King and Queen Charles and Camilla not approved on Harry?s bombshell interview and bombshell books

Another one of those dodgy unscientifically based ?polls? this rag specialises in, I see. Keeping themselves busy with fake outrage and ?polling?, supposedly of their readers, that mean absolutely zilch!
I'm excited about the Coronation (and surprised that I am so excited, too). I hope we receive updates along the way, and the closer it gets the more exciting it will be. I am wondering if anyone in the RIF is planning to join the crowds in London? Or even thinking about it?
^I am also very much, when I was a little girl and could understand what was going on in the world I became very interested in royal families, even with Queen Margrethe of Denmark riding her bike around Copenhagen with security following her. I had pictures of her that I saved and somehow got lost in time in a magazine that is no longer produced. I love the English history going way back to Alfred the Great one of my favorite people. I want to see the royal history being preformed and see all the glory that goes with this event. So this coronation is something I will really enjoy seeing and saving pictures of it.
And I think we can be assured that the King will ensure that all changes are in the best of taste and appropriateness. Things have to change as time goes on, but it will remain a stately, reverent ceremony. Much to look forward to!
I think is some way it will also be a sad and yet happy time for Charles, after all there would be no coronation if a parent had not passed on. Sad because he is taking the place of his mother whom was admire and loved deeply by so many as we have seen at her funeral yet in another way Charles has prepared for this role his entire life and really really worked to make positive changes in the Duchy which has helped so many of his country men and women. There is always 2 sides to every coin. He is torn I believe between the 2 in his heart.
Oh I am so sick of the drama from the west.....aren't they tired yet? Please do not let it interrupt the coronation, we all need a breather and some happy times!

Has a Queen Mother from another monarchy attended a previous British coronation?
^^^Not likely for the British or European coronations/enthronements because the foreign royal guests are traditionally the heirs to the throne and not the monarch or consort. That permits the newly crowned monarch to be the one with the highest rank/precedence.
Charles' slimmed-down Conation will be 'half the size of Queen's' as new details revealed
The King plans to invite 3,000 guests to his Coronation at Westminster Abbey in a slimmer ceremony showcasing modern Britain.
The Palace has told Parliament to prepare for a guest list less than half the size of the one for Queen Elizabeth's Coronation in 1953.
Stands were erected in the Abbey then to allow 8,000 people to attend a service of almost three hours.
This time there will be no stands or scaffolding, says sources in Parliament, and the service length will be about half that of 1953.
But the Abbey, which normally has a capacity of 2,200 people will cram in up to 800 more people by putting seats in the medieval galleries which are 52ft above the floor.
Senior figures in Parliament are already worried about how many politicians will be able to attend.
They fear a diplomatic headache in trying to accommodate many of the 650 MPs and 800 peers vying for a seat. Also coming on May 6 are Commonwealth leaders, the extended British Royal Family, 'foreign royalty, dignitaries and charity heads.
A Parliamentary source said: ''We're waiting for details but have been told to expect around 3,000. So nothing like the 8,000 last time, when scaffolding and all sorts was put up to accommodate the numbers.
''It will mean far fewer people, so they will have to think about who does and does not get an invite.
''And there will be a lot of disappointed people.''

I wouldn't want to be part of the committee that selects the invitees. 8,000 was risky, safety-wise. Glad it is slimmed down to 3,000.
I am seeing a lot of blue checkmark that actually want the number to be higher. I guess PMs do not want to miss out.
Tower of London announces school competition ahead of coronation ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/interests/residences/tower-of-london-announces-school-competition-ahead-of-coronation-185798/)
QuoteAhead of the May Coronation of King Charles III, the Tower of London has announced a school Coronation competition.
The Tower is asking for schools across the nation to design an illustration for the Tower?s specially designed Coronation benches. The Tower describes this as an opportunity to bring the Coronation to life in the classroom while also learning about the moment of a historic transition.
Fifteen winning schools will work with an artist from Wild in Art to bring the designs to life, an organisation helping to put together popular art events across the world. The designs will be put onto benches, which will then be displayed at the Tower of London during the Coronation celebrations in May. For winners in Northern Ireland, their benches will be displayed at Hillsborough Castle and Gardens. Following the Coronation celebrations, the winning benches will return to the winning schools.
Winning schools will be offered a VIP trip for one class to visit the Tower of London this summer. Children will get to see their bench and take part in different themed activities. In addition, every school that enters the competition will be put into a raffle to receive a free class visit this autumn or a set of Coronation bunting featuring some of the illustrated bench designs.
Every school in the UK is eligible to enter. Entries must be sent in by midnight on Friday, 10 March 2023. Winners will be announced a week later on Friday, 17 March, with artists making their school visits during the last week of March

Told you!!
That YouTube video was taken directly from a tabloid bleating that ?the PM should ban Harry!? article in the Express!
Churchill stepped in to block the Duke of Windsor from attending his successor?s Coronation if he insisted as an ex monarch. There was an unwritten convention then anyway that monarchs did not attend the Coronation of other monarchs.
That?s a lot different to Harry?s situation as the younger son of the King. Ministers loathe interfering in RF family matters. It will probably be briefly discussed at the weekly meeting the PM has with the King but it is most unlikely to be left to the PM to decide. I think the Sussexes will probably be invited. Whether they decide to go is another matter.

'Festival of Volunteering' Announced To Mark King Charles' Coronation (https://www.countryliving.com/uk/news/a42666903/king-charles-coronation-the-big-help-out-volunteering/)
QuotePeople are being encouraged to spend a day volunteering in their local community, as part of celebrations for King Charles III's Coronation.
Organised by The Together Coalition and 25 of the UK's biggest charities, The Big Help Out will take place on Monday 8th May 2023 and will highlight the positive impact volunteering has on communities across the nation. From rolling up your sleeves to help a local group, to volunteering at a food bank, this is the chance to lend a hand in your neighbourhood.
A statement on royal.uk says: "In tribute to His Majesty The King's public service, The Big Help Out will encourage people to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas. The aim of The Big Help Out is to use volunteering to bring communities together and create a lasting volunteering legacy from the Coronation Weekend."
More than half of Britons want Prince Harry to be invited to the King's Coronation | Daily Mail Online (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11684225/More-half-Britons-want-Prince-Harry-invited-Kings-Coronation.html)
Poll conducted by Ipsos for the Evening Standard asked whether Harry (and Meghan) should go to the Coronation or not. The majority want him there and note the usual disparity of reactions between those respondents who were under 40 with the over 45s.
According to the research, 60 per cent of adults think the Duke of Sussex deserves to be invited to come to the Royal ceremony.
And just 30 percent of respondents think he should not be given invited to attend.
Younger respondents aged from 18 to 34 numbered 75 per cent in favour of him being invited
Three quarters of 18 to 34-year-olds say the Prince should be invited, with 15 per cent against.
In the age group from 35 to 54, 65 per cent supporting Harry to get an invite, while 26 per cent do not.
I think there are lots of apologizes due on both sides and before mediators who are not linked to either party would be a good thing as this way what is said in front of someone like that would help make sure there are no leaks. If Harry wants things his way only as I have got the conclusion from what I have read in the book, it is Harry's way or the highway so to speak. Harry is not taking into or even thinking that there is more then just one side to this.....I have read and read how BP during all the years growing up has saved his reputation time and time again just by his own words in the Book. So given that, just how many stories does BP, men in gray suits, any employee who had dealings with him that have stories to tell of his behavior and how he treated staff...it just is not all one sided here......I seriously doubt there will be a meeting anytime soon as Harry right now is so paranoid of the media/tabloids even though he is the one talking to them. Harry from what I have read and by professionals is an alcoholic and drug addict by his own words, yet will never admit to having a problem with that facing that as that would mean facing reality and he is far from living in the real world.
I just would like to think that Charles and the entire family are watching this train wreak and talking to professionals in the AA field and Mental Health Field for they all will need help in dealing with the crash when it happens.

I am not really surprised to read that the results. After all, this a national but also a family event so of course an invitation is likely to be issued to the Sussexes much like Prince Andrew will also be issued one.
Also not surprised to read that the Prince of Wales is currently the most popular member of the BRF as he has consistently been in the top 3 for several years now.
Finally, I was expecting King Charles to opt for a military uniform over silk breeches like the ones worn by Edward VII, George V and George VI.

I have consistently said here that the Daily Express writes at least three negative pieces per day about Meghan and Harry. The links above show what I?m talking about. Five out of the nine articles linked here are from that rag.
A rag that is constantly publishing rubbishy negative newspaper polls about the couple, involving their readers in spreading bad feeling. And their journalists know nothing more about whether Harry and Meghan will go to the Coronation or not than the average punter on the street.
It?s a tabloid. They?re hardly going to be printing hard-hitting news. It?s like when they tried to guess royal baby names. It?s just fluff. No one yet knows who will be invited to the coronation, but I?m assuming we have to find out soon?

For an event like this one, I'd expect that the "save the date" message went out to the guests when the Coronation date was announced. As the the actual invitation, probably 12 weeks in advance which is double the usual six weeks for an invitation. However it's more or less a formality for those who know they will be expected to be in attendance.
You're welcome! Honestly though I tried to recall how long formal wedding invitations are sent out and just doubled it. :D Somewhere the UK's Earl Marshall is overseeing this process and I hope it goes smoothly. It can't be easy when sometimes diplomatic issues arise and invitations have to be rescinded or guests have to decline with short notice due to situations in their nations.
For sure. It?s a once in a lifetime event and you wanna make sure every little detail goes right. I don?t envy them the job.

Oh Yes? Well, we?ll see whether Cruise gets an invitation first, lol! If he does (and personally I think these reports are typical made up tabloid rubbish) then there will be many indignant MPs, members of the judiciary, Lords Lt of counties, prominent British actors close to the royals etc etc who, having missed out, will be demanding an explanation.
Well, went hunting for where that bit of rubbish about Tom Cruise came from and guess what, an Express story from last November and Neil Sean claiming that Cruise will be given some sort of role at the forthcoming Coronation, following a claim of his after the Queen died that Elizabeth was so fond of him that he would surely be there at her funeral. Guess the star misplaced that invitation!
?He said: "You may have heard a friendship developed so much so that Tom was invited firstly to tea with Her Majesty The Queen and then for an informal lunch."
He noted that Tom was a "good associate of the late Duke of Edinburgh" but he's also a "major major royal fan".
Mr Sean also noted that, allegedly, it "looks like Tom could be given some kind of, not just invite, [but a] certain role within the forthcoming coronation.? End quote.

I wouldn't be surprised, 70/30 that Tom will be included in some role, more likely at the 2nd day of 'celebrations', Windsor Castle with all the other arts and entertainment people, like the Queen's Platinum Jubilee; The Service of Thanksgiving was royals, government, charities, everything else had arts and entertainment world, Tom was at the 1st program of that Platinum Jubilee as one of the hosts - 'A Gallop Through History' at Windsor castle.
The Coronation per se is a solemn event, the other 2 'celebration' days mirror the Jubilee.

Tom Cruise was reported by Neil Sean to be having a role at the actual Coronation (not at the bits celebrating it afterwards which all show biz people who are invited to participate in various events do) which is plainly ridiculous. And his American accent while taking part in the Windsor Gallop through History thing was noted by many British people who wondered what he was doing there anyway.
Equally ridiculous was the prediction that Cruise would be a guest at the late Queen?s funeral, almost as if he?d been welcomed in as some part of the extended RF in the last year or so. It didn?t happen, did it, like the majority of the rest of Sean?s ?predictions?.
I?m quite willing to believe that he could be hosting this or introducing that BEFORE or AFTER the Coronation ceremony, as many actors, singers etc will be, but to infer, as Sean did, that Cruise is going to play a role in the Coronation itself or even be an attendee at the ceremony as some kind of close family friend, is just fantasy talk.
He?s an American actor who?s met a few members of the BRF while promoting his new film at the same time. Nothing more, nothing less. And his talk of having so much in common with William, ?We both fly?, and Sean?s suggestions that he and the late Queen were somehow bosom buddies so Charles is his friend, just imo makes them both look and sound like idiots, which again, imo, isn?t too far off the mark!
This is what Sean said, from that November newspaper report I linked yesterday.
hear also that Tom Cruise has been in touch with senior royals after his spectacular stint on the world's stage at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and, of course, the royal premiere of his box office rocket, "Top Gun: Maverick."

Something tells me that Tom will indeed be on the guest list for the funeral of our greatest Queen Elizabeth. End quote.
Well, that ?something? was incorrect, wasn?t it, not unusual with this gossip raker, and ?spectacular stint? at the Jubilee?! Gimmee a break!
And
The number of guests for King Charles' coronation has been reduced from 8,000 to 2,000 as the new sovereign seeks to curb royal expenditure. Although the final guest list is currently unconfirmed, royal expert Neil Sean has claimed that Charles is reportedly keen to invite Hollywood star, Tom Cruise to his coronation next year, after the star developed a sweet friendship with the King's late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, particularly in her final few months.
That piece was about the coronation guest list not the entertainment afterwards. Keen to invite Cruise! Yeah, right!
(The DM article below is a summary of Katie Nicholl's article that is found in Vanity Fair, but I couldn't find it.)
I believe that this is what most royal watchers are expecting should one or both of the Sussexes accept the invitation to KCIII's coronation. We already know that modifications are being made to the service ie: Only the Prince of Wales will be kneeling and swearing fealty to the King.
The Sussexes like the York family (DoY, the York sisters and their spouses) and Prince/Princess Michael of Kent will likely be seated with those members of the the BRF who do not undertake senior royal duties.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 'to be treated like Beatrice and Eugenie' at Charles' coronation | Daily Mail Online (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-11728803/Prince-Harry-Meghan-Markle-treated-like-Beatrice-Eugenie-Charles-coronation.html#reader-comments)
QuoteWriting in Vanity Fair, royal expert Katie Nicholl said that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry would potentially take on a role similar to Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie in proceedings.
Describing how they would be less visible, she explained: 'Now that they are no longer working royals, the Sussexes can expect to be treated the same way as Harry?s cousins Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, who attend important family occasions but are not in the spotlight and do not appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony.
That?s Katie Nichols? opinion. We don?t know if anyone will be swearing fealty or whether that part of the ceremony has been cut. In fact nobody knows where anyone in the family will be seated and that includes this journalist.
And the difference between Harry and the other non working royals is that he isn?t a younger brother, niece, nephew, second cousin etc but one of the King?s only two offspring. If you are going to dump one of your two adult children among the number of near and other more distant relatives in the third or fourth row simply because the British media believes you should, then imo that says more about you and how you feel about your child than anything else. Charles has already had a reputation as a distant parent for years since his sons were young. Something like Nichols suggests will only reinforce it.
From the article
The monarch, 73, was met with cheers as he stepped out of his black Rolls Royce at the premises this afternoon.
As the royal greeted members of the institution who were standing outside the building, a student in the crowd was heard yelling: 'Please bring back Harry!'
At first, the monarch did not hear what the member of the public and asked a member of his team for clarification. An aide told him: 'Harry, your son.'
Appearing unbothered by the mention of the Duke of Sussex - who unleashed fresh bombshells on the Royal Family with his memoir Spare last month - King chuckled and said: 'Oh.'

A Coronation is a coronation. The entertainment before and afterwards are part of the Coronation celebrations. Nobody, in Britain anyway, would call a pageant or concert etc before or after the ceremony in the Abbey The Coronation. That would just be considered strange.
That article discussed seating and the guest list for the Abbey Coronation. The journalist understood what Sean was referring to, just like the Queen?s funeral Tom was supposed to attend according to Sean, and didn?t.
And who cares who actor Tom Cruise sent condolences to. The RF got thousands of condolences from all over the world. Cruise?s was nothing special, however friendly with the BRF he and Neil Sean like to paint it.

Yes it's Katie Nicholl's opinion on the seating arrangements and balcony line up, and honestly it's mine as well. I do believe that the working members of the BRF will take precedence over their non-working relatives. Also I believe that the part of the Coronation Service will be modified and that only PoW will swear fealty to the new monarch rather than all of the royal dukes etc... I also believe that we'll only see the working royals present on the balcony at Buckingham Palace, but that the non-working members of the BRF will be at Buckingham Palace to gather after the service.
Now whether or not mine and Ms. Nicholl's predictions are correct, well that remains to be seen.

Watch Neil Sean reporting from Westminster Abbey, Fox News live 🍿
Harry did not behave himself for the service of thanksgiving. He arrived 15 minutes late for the coach and Charles ended up arranging a last minute transportation for the couple. The royal channel has the uninterrupted of the service. Everyone is seated including the senior royals then incoming Harry and Megs disbelief.
This will not happen during a once in a lifetime coronation a historical event. I suspect the couple will make another media disruption and poor Pa is just too soft. If this happens it will spell the final end of the montecito duo with the British royals. They will not keep on taking it. They cannot the public outcry will be deafening.

A separate comment to not ruin the above Coronation emblem.
I see that #CaroleanEra is trending with the Coronation.
In the English speaking world, Carolean era refers to the reign of Charles II (1660-1685) and usually refers to the arts. It is better known as The Restoration. It followed the Interregnum when there was no king. The period was noted for the flourishing of the arts following the demise of The Protectorate. It ended with the Glorious Revolution of 1688 when James II of England & VII of Scotland went into exile.
The Carolean era should not be confused with the Caroline era which refers to the reign of Charles II's father, Charles I (1625-1649). The phrase has come into use again recently relating to the accession of King Charles III.

I totally understand that the Sussex's must be invited to attend. After all, it is his father who is being crowned. Also, if it is true that they have been told to discuss weather only with senior royals then I agree with that, too. However, how can they control them while they are in England or prevent them from making one or more of their staged PR, attention getting "stunts"? I'm sure all the media would love to get interviews with them (what a coup that would be!). Or what if they secretly arranged a walkabout at one of the venues, or arranged to arrive at greatest advantage to themselves? Harry is angry and thus unpredictable.

Traditionally it will be the heirs to the throne plus their spouses and not fellow monarchs that will be invited to the ceremony. However Prince Albert did attend King Willem-Alexander's investiture, so he might be at KCIII's coronation. It's possible that we might see some of the young female heirs in attendance if their school schedules permit: Belgium's Elisabeth, The Netherlands' Catharina-Amalia and Spain's Leonor.

They will use the Cullinan diamonds instead. And remove several of the arches. That will help with the weight. I like the idea of recycling an old crown instead of making a new one. There is continuity and it shows respect to people struggling to get by. I hope that K&W and others do the same.
Lovely. Can't wait.

Please look at where you are getting your articles from Duchess, and their sources. The journalist who wrote the piece you linked is not a native English speaker. You can tell that from her sentence construction. She?s probably Spanish and this online music and entertainment magazine that is the source is almost certainly Spanish as well. Certainly she and her editor don?t know the first thing about the BRF. ?The monarch Mrs Camilla Parker.? Really? It?s strangely amusing that should be printed but in fact Camilla hasn?t been addressed by that name ever and is certainly not the monarch..
And the other article you mentioned in your post referring to Meghan probably came from a tabloid. They may be British but they?re nearly as bad as the above.
@TheRealDuchessOfSussex -I agree with
@Curryong that checking your sources is a good idea. There's a great deal of speculation going on now about the Coronation but honestly Buckingham Palace has not released too many specific details.
They've announced the dates and the events associated with that weekend. We know which crown the Queen Consort has chosen and the official emblem has been released to the public. We also know that the service is likely to be shorter.
I believe that those who are expected to be invited outside of the British Royal Family have already received a "save the date" notification ie: Commonwealth Nation Prime Ministers and Governors General. Quite likely the reigning and non-reigning royals who are likely to be invited have received notification too.
As for the presence of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Duke of York, we'll have to wait and see.

I agree. It is a very religious ceremony, which will affect him in a spiritual way. Also, he will be cognizant of the sobering and significance of the event, as it takes place after his mother's passing.

It doesn?t matter what Camilla is called. Queen, Queen Consort, Chief ex royal Mistress Extraordinary. Doesn?t matter. The polls have shown for over twenty years that she was and remains the most unpopular wife of a Prince of Wales and a King since Queen Adelaide, and certainly within the last century and a half. Her poll numbers show that, working royal or not, the PR ain?t working and never has, probably never will.
For heaven's sake isn't it time people move on from the past? What should we do, go back a few hundreds of years and still blame and shout about who did what then now? Regardless we all MAKE MISTAKES in life, life is not perfect and neither is anyone in it and isn't it time we grow up and take care of today as we have tons of issues that need fixing like a war where thousands of men and women and children are dying because of a monster or the viruses that are still killing people, or our governments not caring about the people........So what if Camilla is called a Queen or Queen Consort or even an old Queen, so what, is it going to make someone's day or not? She will always be *Queen* in Charles eyes and that is all that matters to him, not one of us in this world can take that away from him ever.

There are many wives in their husbands? eyes who are Queens of their minds and hearts (and who didn?t have to break up two families to be so.) These wives however are not publicly crowned so in a ceremony that is paid for by the British Government. It?s not Charles?s money that is being used but British taxpayers?. It was presumably many of these British taxpayers who took part in YouGov polls since 2005 and who were asked whether they approved of Camilla or not and have said not. Newspaper poll after newspaper poll said the same thing. ?We don?t want Camilla as Queen.?
Charles is fortunate that he as sovereign can insist that his wife be crowned by his side. And she will be. That does not mean however that the majority of his subjects like or approve of his wife. It?s clear they don?t and never have.
