*The identities of all of the bridal party before I'd only known the name of Maxima's sister as one of the bridesmaids.
*That Valentino created not only Maxima's and Marie-Chantal's gowns but also Princess Madeline's.
*That the diamond stars had a connection to the last Queen Consort of the NL, Queen Emma.

Maxi made a beautiful bride, and they both look so young! It's a pity, though understandable, that her parents couldn't attend.  As for the wedding dress,   as you know I'm not a great fan of lace and always thanked heaven that Maxi didn't go there!

I really never liked the ruby red of the bridesmaids' dresses (but love their hair and the decorative arrangement.) However, in those dresses they were well protected against the weather, February in the Netherlands, Brrrr ! Next year, the 20th anniversary, is the biggie. Wonder whether the bridesmaids will return for a bit of a celebration.

Sadly Ines won't be there, but it would be lovely if the bridal party including the witnesses could come together.

No, of course not! How terrible I forgot about Ines's tragic end. My memory...Urrgh!

I am amazed at how much Princess Arianne has grown in the past year. She might end up being the tallest member of the AAA team. Lovely to see Princess Beatrix tonight as well.

Queen Maxima won't celebrate her birthday until May 17, but it's still wonderful to see the family in person. In a typical year, I'd have expected to see Prince Constantijn, Princess Laurentian, and the whole van Vollenhoven  family in attendance.

 :bday7: to Catharina Amalia Beatrix Carmen Victoria!!! She's named for a former Dutch Queen Consort, her grandmothers and her Godmother Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden. Victoria had Amalia as one of her young bridesmaids along with Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Christian.

Good Lord!! What is going on with W-A and Maxima when it comes to COVID and their private family activities? This is the second time that they've had to apologize for a ridiculous decision during the pandemic.  :ugh: I thought they would have learned after the Greece vacation debacle. Yes, a great deal of carelessness there with that decision. I would have thought Emilia would herself have known about the regulations regarding gatherings from the last twelve months at her school. However, her parents should certainly have checked.

Oh my Lord! It's been twenty years now since they were married.  I remember coming home from the hospital with my newborn son and their wedding photo was on the front page of the Los Angeles Times. He just celebrated his 20th birthday.

My goodness, 20th anniversary. How the years fly! It was truly a beautiful wedding though, only marred a bit by the Argentine junta thing. Maxi looked gorgeous.

She went through the normal admissions process.

My goodness, that is a very full degree!  I did politics as a minor in my degree and that alone required hours of study.

I agree @Curryong. This is beyond what we'd refer to as a "double" major and more like a "quadruple" one.

@TLLK Its not quite a quadruple major. Its an interdisciplinary degree, so all 4 are treated almost as 1 major study wise. 3 year program.

Wow, a great achievement and Alexia should be very proud of this milestone. What?s next for her, I wonder. More tertiary study in the Netherlands? Then perhaps a year or two at a US or UK University to get a Masters? Plenty to  think about.

I wonder if she will take a gap year like her sister Amalia?

Maybe. Gap years can be useful and handy for a breathing space father than nearly 20 years of continuous education. It is good I think to have a bit of a plan and maybe do some volunteering somewhere else in the world for a few months as well, as William and Harry did. Enjoying yourself, having fun, meeting new and different people, the world is wide open really at that age. 

Fortunately for her unlike Amalia, she isn't graduating in the heart of a pandemic. She can actually make some real plans. Alexia's was limited.

If she does will be an empty nest for the royal couple in the fall. Well if Amalia is able to be in dorms again. Amalia in university, Alexia on a gap year and Arianne off in Italy starting at the UWC in Trieste. Be a change for the royal parents.

There are always some weekends, for Amalia anyway. And perhaps they will be able to devote some time to each other as well. Bit like going back to when you first marry!

@Curryong - I agree and Amalia spent her time volunteering at the Oranje Foundation and even worked as a waitress at one of the local restaurants during that year. I wouldn't be surprised if Alexia chooses to have a similar experience. She and Arianne will be expected to have careers and to support themselves in the future, so some work experience would be beneficial.

The King issued a Royal Decree in November 2021 to establish the flag for his three daughters.

The Princess, who is second in line to the throne, can now undertake royal duties if she so chooses.

She recently graduated from the United World College of the Atlantic in Wales alongside Spain?s Princess Leonor. Exam results will be available next month.

It is unknown if she will take a gap year like her elder sister or immediately begin university in the autumn.

I will always remember this wedding because it was the day my newborn son and I  came home from the hospital.  There was a large color photo of W-A and Maxima on the balcony of the Royal  Palace.  The garland was made up of stunning white flowers and oranges. 8th

I remember when they got engaged and when each girl was born. TLLK, what a wonderful memory.
