Congrats to Mary and Frederik! I had a feeling it would be a girl. The Danes wanted a little princess and Mary never disappoints even when it's out of her control it seems.
i wonder what theyll name her. :woo:
So wonderful I can't wait for more pictures.
The world's new little princess's official birthday http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v488/lotte52/drws2/07/pr2.jpg
...the same day as her cousin, Queen Elizabeth II
Congrats to Mary and Frederick.
Can't wait to hear her name.
We have to wait for a long time to hear her name, until the christening - 3 months or so?!
But danish "experts" say that the names could be:
Margrethe - after her paternal grandmother (this name as her first name)
Ingrid - after her paternal great-grandmother
Henrietta - after her late maternal grandmother
congratulation!!!!!! :Royal: :Royal: :Royal: :Royal:
I rarely post on this board, but I like CP Mary. :flowers: Congratulations to CP Frederick and CP Mary on the birth of their own special little bundle of joy. A baby is a blessing, and I'm glad that mummy and baby are doing well. :flowers: :Royal: :baby:
It's baby season!!!! Congrats to Fred and Mary for their little baby girl!!!
For names the experts predict, I think I like Ingrid the best. I'd prefer if they chose a different name entirely though.
Wow, I just realized the three Crown Princesses who were pregnant and due this spring have all had (or in Letizia's case, going to have) girls: Maxima, Mary and next, Letizia's daughter -- congratulations to Mary, how exciting  :flowers:
Even our Forum Crown Princess Lola had a girl this month ... :yipee:
Girls rule and boys drool
:yipee: Another part Aussie born into royalty...we're slowly but surely spreading throughout the world
Congrats Mary, Fred, Christian and baby :flowers:
Hey, maybe you could send them a "Made in Australia" t-shirt -- wasn't she conceived there?
Dunno  Was she? :teehee:
I think they should call her Sheila ..honouring her Aussie heritage :windsor1:
I would not be surprised if The Crown Princely couple name their newly born daughter Elizabeth. :)
^ I have a feeling you will be naming your first born daughter Elizabeth! :happytears:
So there is no law about what she can be named... like the son had to be either Christian or Frederik?
They have a law that the sons have to be called either Christian or Frederik?!!?
congrats...

 :hmm:  a law to tell you that you have to name you children those two names
I don't know anything about Christian having to be named either that or Frederik, but I do know that in Denmark there are some laws about naming children. There's basically a big book of names that are considered "real" names which you can use for your child. You couldn't go "I'm going to name my child Apple" (although in Danish) over there...it has to be a real name.
And congratulations to the couple! :) Little girls are adorable!!!
Congrats :fool:
Who decides what is a 'real name'? ???
And Congratulations to CP Mary and CP Frederik!!! :D
Can't wait till cute little pics of her are released!
Congrats 2 Mary and Fred....1st princess 2 be born since 1946....and she shares same birthday with QEII :yay:

Here we go:
QuoteIt is a Danish tradition that the names of that country's princes' alternate between Christian and Frederik.

I was just wondering if there was a similar tradition for the girls

The government, I think. I'm not really clear on the details. I was only told this by a Danish friend of my family, who had been discussing her sister's struggle to choose baby names, and she mentioned this law. I can probably look it up somewhere if anyone's really interested. I figure it's not that vital, though, so for the time being I'll let it be. :)
I still think it should be a Australian name...what about Kylie? 8)

It is more of a tradition than an actual law.
I'm not sure what the law is in Denmark but in Germany there is a list somewhere ... we gave our children very traditional German names so it was a non-issue for us but I do know you are not allowed to name the child Moonbeam or Knorr Soup Mix or anything weird like that
Maybe one of the names will be after Mary's late mother, or some Danish variation of that?
Princess Henrietta-Elisabeth
Quotename the child Moonbeam or Knorr Soup Mix
 :lmao: :teehee: i hope no one names their child that.....Knorr soup mix.... :lmao: you crack me up!!!!!
I think Henrietta is a gorgeous name. =]]]

In Iceland you have to apply for a name for your baby to a specific committee. Normally it's just a formality, but they serve the purpose of stopping parents from naming their children really unappropriate names and they also reject names that are too 'foreign' to try to keep the language clean.
I did an essay on it several years ago and saw a list of names that had been rejected. For example, one of the names that were rejected for girls was Satanía.
Is it similar in Germany and Denmark or are there different rules?
Wonderful news! Congrats to Mary and Fred! :D

Congrats :daisy:

Congrats. I hoped she'd have a girl. A little earlier than I'd expected, but I'm sure she's gorgeous. I hope they choose personal middle names as they did for Christian.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FAMILY!!! :flowers: :flowery: :wub2:

You do know what Waltzing Matilda is about dont you? :lmao:
Funny story...Mary said that Christian showed "Brotherly type love to the baby" the news thingys here are reporting that a little girl who's parents are family friends went to visit and when they walked out of the hospital the media asked the little girl if Christian was there with his new little sister. The little girl said yes and that when he met the baby he hit her on the head.. :crazylaugh: hence the brotherly type love :lmao:
Little Matilda is lovely
Yes :lmao:
but that doesn't stop American children from learning it in the first grade -- I can still remember all the verses.
But then again here one of the favorite songs to sing for Parent's Night at school is the "Yellow Rose of Texas" which is about a *** named Emily from my hometown who kept General Santa Anna "occupied" while we attacked his forces. :teehee:
im a bit late but
:woo: yay for another baby!
They learn it at school in the US? Weird 8)
Little Matilda it is :Jen:
Omg she's gorge :sigh: She reminds me of Christian a little. Thank you for the pics.
Better late than never ;)
Congratulations :flowers:
I like babies!
She's soooooooooooooooo sweet :baby:
she's looks a darker ver. of her mom.......wonder how she'll look in a few months.
must be very cute, i mean look her brother
I'm waiting too for the christining how she would look like (more like her mother or father?)
anyone know her name?
We won't hear her name until her christening in 3 months or so! ;)
so we have to wait!!!! like prince Christian!! :P :P
3 months :gaah:
Let's just name her ourselves ... these people are too pokey.
1)Mathilda
2)Henrietta-Elizabeth (after Mary's late mother and April co-celebrant HM Queen Elizabeth)
3)Myrtle-Maud
4)Halibut
Any other suggestions?
Like I've said before:
Danish "experts" say that the names could be:
Margrethe - after her paternal grandmother (this name as her first name) (Frederik's mother)
Ingrid - after her paternal great-grandmother (Frederik's paternal grandmother who he was very fond of)
Henrietta - after her late maternal grandmother (Mary's Mother)
It has just been announced that the Princess will be christened on Sunday July 1, 2007, at 11:30 a.m. in Fredensborg Palace Church, Fredensborg.
http://www.kronprinsparret.dk/4c42774
Is it likely that they are gonna choose from those names? Is it just as likely they can name her..I dunno..Lipka or Halibut as Ingrid or Henrietta? Does there have to be some sort of precedence and nod to an ancestor with the baby's first name?
I'm sure they won't call her Lipka or Halibut...at least not as a first name...I think that they'll use the names Ingrid, Henrietta and Margrethe...and then a fourth name...a very special name! But I think they'll choose a first name that has something regal to it...you know she IS the daughter of the future King & Queen! But this is only speculation as I don't know more than everyone else...
Matilda :Royal:
that's a boring name....I like Mary's mom thou....very greek-like....yet appealing.
Take that back :windsor: It's very Aussie :windsor:
Mathilda is Aussie?
....anyway.....its just 2 random and lacks uniqueness.....I say at lease name her Henriette.....sounds great.
How about Helena---after Helena Christensen?? She's gorgeous!
that's a cute name.
Quote from: hippie_cyndi on April 30, 2007, 02:23:31 AM

Matilda not Mathilda...as in the song "Waltzing Matilda"
okay....still boring thou :ninja:
Take that back :windsor:
:teehee:
^ nice name......Helena
I'll compromise: Halibut-Matilda
that sounds like Haliburton...or....even worse Hannibal.....won't do....come-on you now come up with something worthy of a princess ;)
Quote from: dizzylizzy on April 30, 2007, 11:42:46 PM
I'll compromise: Halibut-Matilda
Or Matilda-Halibut :Royal:
I like that, Wombat ... Matilda-Halibut sounds better than Pickled-Herring, which was my first choice.
