And many congratulations to the couple. This baby girl evens it up a bit gender-wise after the birth of several boys among the King and queen's grandchildren. Their family has grown quite a bit since Estelle was the only grandchild a few years ago.

She has been granted the duchy of Blekinge. Princess Adrienne?s duchy is in the southern part of Sweden. Blekinge is the country?s second-smallest province, and it borders the Baltic Sea.

She will be styled Her Royal Highness Princess Adrienne Josephine Alice of Sweden, Duchess of Blekinge. Crown Princess Victoria was present for the announcement of the name and title of her new niece.

Yes, a rather pretty and unusual name too. I don't think it's a family name, is it? It goes well with Leonor and Nicolas, and I love Josephine Alice. One thing you can say about the younger Swedish Royals. They have avoided traditional Swedish and Royal names like the plague, for the most part. Some people are still not used to 'Estelle' for a future Swedish Queen.

D?rf?r heter prinsessan Adrienne | Svensk Damtidning (https://www.svenskdam.se/2018/03/svensk-damtidning-avslojar-hemligheten-bakom-madeleines-namnval/)

QuoteToday we learned that the Princess Madeleine and Chris's little girl should be named Adrienne - a name that Queen Silvia have always enjoyed it very much.

Now, Swedish Women's Weekly uncover the mystery behind the name Adrienne. It is a name that Queen Silvia have loved all these years - and that she would have wanted to give to his daughter Princess Madeleine. Anyone who tells this charming story is another Adrienne Adrienne Riddez. On her Facebook page, she remembers the meeting with the queen on a crayfish party in Medevi Well in the late 1990s.

- Oh, you called Adrienne, it's a beautiful name like that, 'said the Queen Silvia when they met.

- It would have given to Madeleine!

Princess Adrienne to be baptised in June
Princess Adrienne to be baptised in June ? Royal Central (http://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/sweden/princess-adrienne-to-be-baptised-in-june-99116)

QuotePrincess Adrienne, the third child of Princess Madeleine of Sweden and her husband Chris O?Neill, will be baptised on 8 June in the Royal Chapel of Drottningholm Palace. It will take place just three days after the National Day celebrations in Sweden.

The Most Reverend Archbishop Antje Jackel?n will perform the ceremony with the Right Reverend Bishop and Chief Court Chaplain Johan Dalman and the Reverend, Court Chaplain and Rector of the Royal Court Parish Michael Bjerkhagen assisting him.

An official reception will be held for invited guests after the service with a private lunch to follow. Those invited will include family, friends and representatives from Parliament, the government and official Sweden.

Her Royal Highness will wear the traditional royal Swedish christening gown which was first worn by Prince Gustaf Adolf in 1906. It has been worn by King Carl XVI Gustaf, his children and his grandchildren. Afterwards, her name will be embroidered on the gown like her family members before her. The water used will be from ?land.

Godparents will be announced a day or two before the christening. Adrienne?s uncle, Prince Daniel, the husband of Crown Princess Victoria, is tipped to be a godparent.

The date of the religious ceremony is special to her family. It was on that day in 2013 that Princess Madeleine married her American-British love, Chris O?Neill in the Royal Chapel of Stockholm Palace. Adrienne will be baptised on their fifth wedding anniversary. It is also the same date that her older sister, Princess Leonore, was baptised in the same chapel in 2014.

Princess Adrienne Josephine Alice was born in Danderyd Hospital on 9 March 2018. The first official photo of her was released later that day; it was taken by Chris O?Neill before the family left hospital to return home to the Royal Mews.

Adrienne has an older sister, four-year-old Princess Leonore and an older brother, two-year-old Prince Nicolas.

Official photos with her parents and siblings are expected to be released by the Royal Court in the coming days and weeks.

Kids!  :D I have to say though that the Dutch Royal kids, collectively, weren't seeming to behave THAT badly, just crawling around, while Leonor was prominent at her sister's christening in getting bored and seemingly acting up for absolutely ages. Her brother wasn't and cousins weren't.

Estelle, who might have been able to play quietly with her out of the way, unfortunately had to go home because she felt ill. Leonor's mother, arms full of baby, was seen looking agitated and reproving her a couple of times while dad Chris adopted the casual 'see no evil, hear no evil' approach!

While I do think that it's absolutely lovely that the Scandis include their small children in practically every family occasion this is the down side of it. While Leonor wasn't of course doing anything terribly wrong it is a bit distracting for others sitting there trying to follow the service.

Perhaps in future if it happens again, there could be prior arrangements made for someone she knows to quietly take Leonor (or any others) out into another room and allow her to romp about quietly with a couple of toys. At one stage I noticed Queen Silvia with a young grandson on her knee looking through a small children's book with him. All I can say is, she was lucky he was a placid kid as that sort of thing would have entertained my children for about three seconds flat!

If any more babies are born in the Swedish royal house and are needing to be baptised, there are going to be about four lively under five year olds possibly creating mayhem together. Perhaps time to re-think things?  The British royals adopt a strictly no little kids approach at formal functions, (with the exception of Trooping) and that's not great either. However, except for Savannah's attempting to silence George, and William at the Yorks' wedding, there aren't too many videos of that nature around to embarrass any little Windsors on their 21st birthdays!

I think it is a very good idea to keep little children out of the public eye as much as possible. I noticed that Meg's (far too young) bridal attendants were all taken out immediately tey had wlaked her to the altar.  It looked silly IMO to use them for a cute picture and then get tehm away but it was probably best.  And from what Ive read on another forum Leonor was acting upa lot and I can't understand why Nanny wasn't deputed to take her out when she started..

That is just awful. I hope that the thieves didn't steal the Crown Jewels 'on order' for some greedy private collector. If they did, then there may be a possibility of them being smuggled abroad and becoming virtually untraceable. Hope the police find the thieves.

However they could be a group of amateurs as well. On another forum this robbery was discussed and a poster remembered an ancient and valuable Danish hunting horn that was stolen a few years ago simply because the thieves coveted it for themselves.

Also, odd though it is, thieves do steal valuable very old objects for their metal value, get a crooked fence to melt down the gold, prise out the jewels etc, and sell it all on the black market. Awful though that is to contemplate, some criminals may well be desperate enough for cash to do something like that, meaning that a portion of Sweden's history may be already destroyed. We just don't know what these people's motivations are.

This royal just announced she is retiring from official duties (https://us.hellomagazine.com/royalty/2018080160796/princess-christina-sweden-reveals-she-is-retiring/)

QuoteBeing a member of the royal family has many perks, but also comes with a lot of responsibility. Just like any other job, there is a time when those undertaking royal duties wish to retire like everyone else, with Prince Philip doing just that in May 2017. Now, the latest royal to take a step back for a well-earned rest is Princess Christina, also known as Mrs Magnusson, the younger sister of King Carl Gustav of Sweden. The 74-year-old announced the news on Wednesday to Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter (DN). She told the publication: "I don't want to be tied down by a lot of things in the future, but enjoy what I have and those I have around me."

Christina's retirement follows after she was diagnosed with chronic leukaemia in 2016. The royal underwent treatment that didn't work initially, before having a stem cell transplant in 2017, which proved successful. Christina had previously undergone treatment for breast cancer in 2010 ? including three surgeries ? but had beaten the disease. Christina has since spent a lot of time campaigning for cancer issues.

The princess, who is known as Christina Magnuson, is married to Tord G?sta Magnuson, and they have three sons together: Carl Gustaf Victor, Tord Oscar Frederik and Victor Edmund Lennart. She lost her title of Royal Highness upon her marriage to someone of unequal rank, but her brother the king gave her the courtesy title of Princess Christina, Mrs. Magnuson.

Christina has been active in the royal family foundations, and as well as cancer research, has been working in support of other causes including the Red Cross, where for years she was the head of its organisation Noaks Ark, which was set up to prevent the spreading of HIV and AIDS in Sweden. Christina has also been praised for helping to modernise the Swedish royal family, and has demonstrated a great interest in the arts and cultural scene in the country.

As we can read in this article Christina deserves a rest. She has had a really rough trot with various health crises over the years and paid her dues to Sweden since her youth. I don't think anyone begrudges elderly and ailing royals a chance to relax with their families in their old age.

A thread to discuss the Swedish Royal Family's news not related to their official duties.

Swedens Royal Court is having financial problems, the Royal Court has said. The royal palaces have been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The visitors are absent, and a loss of approximately 75 per cent of the revenue is expected this year. According to the Head of Finance at the Royal Court in Sweden, it risks affecting cultural heritage.

QuoteStaffan Larsson, Head of Finance at the Royal Court, has remarked to the Swedish media: ?We have had a layoff so we have not hired summer employees, which is about 300 people. Then it is, of course, the case that when we have fewer employees, the maintenance of the royal parks is not in the way we normally do. It has effects on the maintenance and care of cultural heritage.?

The Swedish state provides grants to the Royal Court. One part of the subsidy goes to the Royal Family and the other part to the Royal Court to preserve the royal palaces and parks. Nevertheless, the care of the royal properties is paid with about 80 per cent of other incomes from tourism and other sources.

 Sadly this is likely to be a long term issue until the pandemic comes to an end. With the loss of domestic and foreign tourists, it will be difficult to preserve these historic sites without the income visitors bring in every year.

The usual questionnaire of where have you been, who have you seen, etc. universal by the WHO, it works for stats during and historical (I have a nurse friend also attending my elderly neighbor, I cook/clean and am starting to walk her around the block, she checks her vital signs, eyes, ears, throat, etc. that questionnaire has been filled out twice now for the above 70 who may catch it easier).

Most likely caught it at the hospital.

Yes, emergency cases out of covid19 symptoms are being treated on assessment and individual basis.  All countries health departments have emphasized this and a list of cancelled treatments, i.e. cancer patients, although some have resumed since September. Also most countries but not all are saying if you feel you have covid19 symptoms, their health ministry is organized such a way that they send covid specialists to your home, to see if patient is positive and sent to hospital.

The above is due to the fact that hospitals have a high percentage of catching it, many doctors and nurses have either caught it, cured or died.

Laudable and I'm sure the Royal family as other royal families are and haven't seen each other since the pandemic warnings.

Why isn't anyone here supposed to discuss the date of the birth of Sofia and Carl Philip's baby? That's ridiculous, it's not a State secret! Sofia is about four and a half months along in her pregnancy and so of course it's likely to be a late April birth. And for all we know Zara may be expecting her baby at about the same time. With her history of miscarriages the couple may well have delayed the announcement.

I expect a fairly trendy non Scandinavian  name to be used for the Swedish Royal baby, something like Daisy or Ivy perhaps. A similar thing if their baby's a boy, perhaps Christopher or something like that.

It's not got anything to do with keeping things 'under wraps' like something out of the Middle Ages. We don't know whether either couple has revealed any gender knowledge to either close friends or family members. Like all other couples in the world no doubt both couples have discussed names for either sex with relatives and friends.

Most people in public life, not just royals, rely on close friends not to blab to the media about casual discussions and the vast majority don't. However, to believe that anybody in the public eye, whether they are the children or the grandchildren of monarchs, sit still and silent like graven images when the subject of their coming child is raised in private by friends and/or family is just ridiculous.

And I don't know about Carl Philip and Sofia, but the idea that Mike Tindall (who isn't Royal) wouldn't say something about this forthcoming baby or its gender to his mates because the Head of State wants it kept under wraps until there's an official announcement, is just plain wrong. Mike has said plenty in public about his wife, her pregnancies (including her discomfort due to the need for a toilet during Harry and Meghan's wedding when she was heavily pregnant) various members of the Royal Family and his children.

The Tindalls never announced the names of their daughters until their christenings because they aren't Royal and they figured it was nobody's business but theirs as private people. It certainly wasn't because the Queen was insisting on no information until the baptisms. She never interferes with her grandchildren's arrangements in that way.

If you have any viable evidence that the Queen insists on a ban of any sort with regard to the disclosure of gender or names on those not in the direct line of succession I'd like to see it.

Well, of course out of courtesy Mike would have rang all members of his and Zara's family after each birth and told them whether it was a boy or girl, weight, who they looked looked like and perhaps a name. Most dads do. His and her parents would have been informed, siblings on both sides, any grandparents, uncles, aunts, close cousins etc. That's what happens in almost every family regardless of who they are. The Queen being the monarch wouldn't have been treated any differently than thousands of other grandmothers being told via phone or what'sUp of the birth of great-grandchildren.

Brian McFadden tells TV programme Loose Women that he and his SO were given advice about IVF after their miscarriage by Zara and Mike and there was a later pregnancy. Mike doesn't mind talking about anything. After all, this latest Tindall pregnancy wasn't revealed by Heralds and trumpeters at BP. Mike revealed it in a podcast!

In the video, Queen Silvia reads the poem ?Adventsb?n? (An Advent Prayer) by Margareta Melin.

The King and Queen are seen with a small Advent candle holder which was made by Crown Princess Victoria as a child. The Father Christmas figures seen were made by Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine when they were young.

QuoteThis year was not what we expected, but the Swedish royals have made the most of it by attending engagements where they could, being on the frontlines of the battle with COVID-19 and partaking in virtual meetings. Let?s take a look at 2020 for the Swedish Royal Family.

I had forgotten that in  2020 the CPss Family started the year  with a "rite of passage" for many skiing children/teens a broken limb. Princess Estelle had an accident while skiing with her family. Looking back it might have been a foretelling of the year we were all to experience.

Princess Sofia's pregnancy update issued from the court. With a March/April reported due date, she's entering her third trimester soon. Glad to hear that she and the baby are both doing well.

Sweden?s Royal Court issues an update on Princess Sofia?s pregnancy ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/sweden/swedens-royal-court-issues-an-update-on-princess-sofias-pregnancy-154418/)

QuoteIn December 2020, announced that Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia are expecting their third child. At that time, December 11, the following statement was issued by the Royal Court: ?We are happy and look forward to welcoming our third child, a sibling to Prince Alexander and Prince Gabriel. A new little member of our family.?

Now the Swedish Royal Court has given an update on the pregnancy to the Swedish Magazine ?Svensk Damtiding?. They stated that?Princess Sofia is still fine and everything is going well.?

The news of Princess Sofia`s pregnancy came just weeks after it was confirmed that she and Prince Carl Philip had both contracted coronavirus. There has been intensive medical research around the world about the implications of coronavirus during pregnancy. Fortunately for Princess Sofia, she has experienced no problems and she and the Prince are both now healthy again.

Ever since last spring, Princess Sofia has volunteered at Sophiahemmet, something she will continue to do for as long as she can, says the Royal Court. Sophiahemmet was founded by the King Carl XVI Gustaf?s grandmother, Queen Sofia and it is here, in one of the wards that partially relieves the other health care in the Stockholm Region

Imposter pretends to be Prince Carl Philip ? Swedish Royal Household starts investigation ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/sweden/imposter-pretends-to-be-prince-carl-philip-swedish-royal-household-starts-investigation-155677/)

QuoteAn imposter has pretended to be Prince Carl Philip of Sweden on WhatsApp and conned people out of money, Royal Central has learned.

Royal Central has been contacted by an individual with screenshots of a conversation with someone who they believed was Prince Carl Philip of Sweden. The con artist used a fake passport to dupe the unsuspecting victim out of thousands of pounds.

Upon close inspection of the passport, it is evident that photo manipulation has been used to doctor the image. In the WhatsApp messaging, the person claiming to be the royal calls himself only ?Prince Carl? instead of the full name that he goes by ?Prince Carl Philip.?

The imposter has since refused to refund any money and blocked the victim.

Royal Central has alerted the Swedish Royal Court who are investigating.

This isn?t the first time someone has pretended to be Prince Carl Philip. In February of last year, the Royal Court sent out a press release alerting people to a false website claiming to represent the Prince.

At the time, the Royal Court said: ?A website claiming to represent Prince Carl Philip is sending out invitations to Royal events as well as asking recipients for financial donations.

?The Royal Court of Sweden would like to inform that the website is false and does not represent His Royal Highness nor The Prince Couple?s Foundation.

?The Royal Court of Sweden has reported the website to the Swedish Police Authority.?

I think it's more than just that. Royals often have people like hoteliers and restauranteurs falling over themselves to have a Royal sleep or eat at their establishments. 'Oh no, Your Highness, no question of payment!'

(It would be slightly awkward for the conman if the person concerned suggested halving their bill or something, but the 'Royal' would then tell them that they didn't travel with money and to send their account to So and So official at the Palace.) Most royals travel with a special credit card issued by their bank but many retail people might not know that.

And there would almost certainly be freebies suggested at out of the way car hire establishments not connected to a franchise, scuba hire equipment, clothing shops etc, etc. If the person was extra cunning it could go on for years.

I appreciate that the blog writer included this information in their article, but honestly I am astounded as too frequently people fall prey to these scams.

QuoteHow to avoid money transfer scams.

Avoid sending money to someone you?ve never met in person.
If you feel that you have to send money to someone you?ve never met, do not send large sums at once.
Consider making any paying late. Scammers will often try and pressure you to transfer money by a certain date. If you don?t meet their deadline and they contact you again saying the deadline has been extended, you may be dealing with scammers.

Me too. I used to volunteer at a Citizens Advice Bureau and wish I had a dollar for every time people (unfortunately usually women) would talk about being contacted by individuals re a scheme involving disclosing bank details and wondering whether they should. It's much easier for all sorts of scam artists with the Internet around as well.

Hoping for a full and speedy recovery for Queen Silvia. Glad that she's been able to return home.

Queen Silvia taken to hospital after fall at Drottningholm Castle ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/sweden/breaking-queen-silvia-taken-to-hospital-after-fall-at-drotningholm-castle-155850/)

QuoteHer Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden has been treated in hospital after a fall at Drottningholm Castle.

Queen Silvia, who is 77, injured her wrist in the fall. A statement was issued by the Royal Court shortly after the accident on Monday, February 15th 2021.

The Queen was taken to hospital where it was determined that she had a fracture in her right wrist. After treatment, Silvia returned to Drottningholm.

The statement from the Royal Court states: ?H.M. The Queen has injured her right wrist in connection with a fall at home at Drottningholm Castle. The accident occurred early on Monday morning, February 15. The Queen was then treated at Danderyd Hospital, where it was established that the Queen has fractures in her right wrist. The queen is once again at home at Drottningholm?s castle and is feeling well under the circumstances.?

The Swedish newspaper ?Expressen? reports that they have from a source that the Queen has received several fractures in the hand, but since the Queen is back home after such a short time, it is presumed that her injuries cannot be serious.

Margareta Thorgren, information manager at the Royal Court, says to the Swedish magazine ?Svensk Dam? the following: ?The Queen sadly fell at home on Drottningholm and took the fall with her right hand. The pain made her realize that she needed medical care, so she went by ambulance to Danderyd Hospital.?

It appears that she has multiple fractures in her right wrist and possibly her hand. That is going to take some time to heal. With two of the three Scandinavian royal households facing illness or injury now, I would imagine that their Danish neighbor QM is taking every precaution.

Yes, although of course poor Queen Daisy has had pain every day in her back and shoulder for years due to her arthritic condition. And at least she has willing younger helpers in the form of Frederik and Mary. In Spain, if anything happened to either Felipe or Letizia in the form of an accident laying them up for any length of time they would be in some trouble as far as Royal engagements go. The NRF is not much better and won't be until I-A completes her education I suppose.

The Swedish magazine ?Svensk Damtidning? has received an update on the Queen?s condition. In a short statement, the Royal Court writes: ?She has had her arm bandaged, and now she is home again. Given the circumstances, the Queen is fine?.

Margareta Thorgren, Communication Manager at the Royal Court, has confirmed to the Swedish press that they chose to contact Princess Madeleine in the middle of the night, Florida time to inform her of Queen Silvia?s fall. Sweden will soon welcome their first non ?Royal Highness? born Prince or Princess ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/sweden/sweden-will-soon-welcome-their-first-non-royal-highness-born-prince-or-princess-157025/)

QuoteSweden will soon welcome a new baby Prince of Princess with Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia expecting their third child. The baby is expected to arrive in late March or early April.

The new baby will be the first royal child to be born after The King reduced the Royal House by a third, from 15 people to 10. The five who were pushed out were his grandchildren ? the sons and daughters of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine. This was done in an attempt by the Swedish monarch to minimise the future expenses that the Swedish monarchy will have.

This, combined with the fact that the ongoing pandemic is still raging in Sweden, will lead to the new Prince or Princess being welcomed to the family in a far different way to usual. According to Swedish media, the Royal Court does not plan for an officially arranged press conference with Prince Carl Philip at the hospital, something that has otherwise been a tradition. The newly-born child will not be styled as a Royal Highness, but will be a Prince or Princess and get their own duchy.

When the child is born, the Marshal of the Royal Court will send out a statement, as per usual with a royal birth, and there will also be various ceremonial aspects that will follow in the days to come. This includes the council at Stockholm Castle where The King informs the government about the royal child?s title, name and duchy, as well as the witness confirmation, where the president, prime minister and marshal get to see the new-born child. Every time The King has become a grandfather, he has held a council, and he has usually had the Crown Princess by his side.

The Court has announced that the CP Couple have recovered from COVID 19.

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel recover from COVID-19 ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/sweden/crown-princess-victoria-and-prince-daniel-recover-from-covid-19-157478/)

QuoteAfter fighting COVID-19 for a while, it has now been revealed that the Crown Princess Couple have fully recovered from the virus. The Swedish Royal Court has now issued a new update on the health of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel.

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel have been isolated at home at Haga Palace since 10 March after developing symptoms. On March 11, it was announced that they had tested positive for COVID-19. To SVT, Information Manager at the Royal Court, Margareta Thorgren, issued the following statement: ?The Crown Princess and Prince are healthy, but still isolated at home according to the Public Health Agency?s recommendations.?

As the Crown Princess and Prince have recovered, they are able to participate as planned in digital meetings and events. Both are expected to be able to leave the isolation shortly after consultation with a doctor. Although the royals have been isolated, this has not prevented the Crown Princess from working. On Tuesday, the Crown Princess participated in a video meeting. Several questions were asked about Prince Daniel, who is in the risk group due to the kidney transplant he received ten years ago. Fortunately, this has not proved to be a problem for the Prince.

Yes.  :D Three girls: Leonor, Estelle and Adrienne. Five boys: Oscar, Nicolas, Gabriel, Alexander, Baby X

Estelle though was not alone. The first two grandkids were Estelle in 2012 and Leonor in 2014. Then we had a run on boys with Nicolas, Oscar, Alexander and Gabriel. Adrienne was the last baby in 2018.

I had thought it would be cute for a little girl to join the boys but not surprised. I had been pretty sure it would be a boy.

The happiest days are when a baby is born!

Mother knew ladies who had to remain in the hospital for seven days after their baby was born.

Lucky ladies! I was in hospital for a fortnight after a Caesarian birth with my first baby.

Wow!  An I was thrilled that I was allowed to stay for 72 hours with my first who was also a C-section.

It just shows the difference in postnatal care since 1974 I suppose! I was ill for about five days after her birth but after that became increasingly bored and fed up. Mind you, I had trouble breast feeding so that took up some hours. My other births involved much shorter stays and no complications though.

I suppose 72 hours would be considered a long stay in hospital now. However, I do wonder about those women who go home soon after childbirth with not much support from husband or relatives and might have older children at home. I was lucky and did have assistance.

I think Zara?s experience is much more common than many  believe. Some women don?t reach the hospital and give birth in different rooms in the house, car, ambulance etc. Traumatic at the time and I bet Mike was glad their little girls were with friends. However, Zara?s friends were there and a midwife and so everything was fine. I bet they?re all over the moon.

By the 80s it was three days here. My mother used to joke that I was too early to share a birthday but I was still a birthday gift. I was born three days before her birthday, but came home the morning of it. Born in 81.

But yes you hear plenty of stories of cops or cab drivers and such delivering babies. Zara is not that unusual, luckily she was at home.

I went to school with a kid who had 7 siblings. His father delivered the last 2. One in the back of their van in rush hour traffic. And the other they actually got to the hospital but they were waiting in the ER to get admitted and he ended up delivering. His dad was a cop and was a trained EMR so he wasn't too out of his comfort.

Nursing after a C-section is not easy, so I have great empathy for what you went through. The only reason I had an extra 24 hours was because I had a C-section. I also lucked out and had a room to myself!

Zara was fortunate that she had a friend with midwife experience to assist with Lucas. Glad that it all turned out well.

And we have a name:

Prince Julian Herbert Folke, Duke of Halland.

Prince Julian Herbert Folke - Sveriges Kungahus (https://www.kungahuset.se/royalcourt/latestnews/latestnews/princejulianherbertfolke.5.3d544ca01784aaa522d7537.html)

Seems fitting how close Carl Philip was to Prince Bertil, that his youngest son would have Bertil's duchy.

I like they followed a similar pattern with all three boys. An original first name, and then family names. All three boys share a name with their grandfather the king.

Alexander: trendy name/personal choice
Erik: Sofia's father
Hubertus: for the king
Bertil: for the Duke of Halland

Gabriel: trendy name/personal choice
Carl: for the baby's father and grandfather
Walther: Silvia's father

Julian: trendy/personal choice
Herbert: Sofia's grandfather (I believe maternal)
Folke: is one of the king's middle names but also could be honor of Count Folke (husband of Countess Estelle)

Little Julian is indeed a beautiful baby. I?ve never really liked Julian as a name but it follows Carl Philip and Sofia?s choices in other names for the children, which do appear to me to be rather Anglo and European names, following international trends in Sweden as elsewhere. Nice that his other two names are family ones. Anyway, wishing the little chap all the best in the future, and lots of fun as he grows up with his two big brothers.

The court has announced that the baptism of Prince Julian will take place August 14th.

Log into Facebook | Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=440888274012844&set=a.362644178503921)

It will be a major change in tradition which seems to reflect the changes the king made to the royal house prior to his birth.

He will not be baptized by the Archbishop as his brothers and cousins have been. He will instead be baptized by the Senior Court Chaplain, Bishop Johan Dalman, assisted by Court Chaplain Michael Bjerkhagen.

There will be photos but unlike previous baptisms, it will not be televised.

Be interesting to see who his godparents are.

Alexander:
Victoria: paternal aunt
Lina: maternal aunt
Victor Magnuson: Carl Philip's paternal cousin
Jan-Ake: Carl Philip's best man
Carja Larsson: friend of Sofia, daughter was a bridesmaid

Gabriel:
Madeleine: paternal aunt

Thomas de Toledo Sommerlath: Carl Philip's maternal cousin

I know Victoria is ?the Royal Godmother? of Europe, but I?m not sure how many godchildren Daniel has. If he has only a few I think it would be an excellent choice for baby Julian. I?m also not sure about Chris, who is cordial with his in-laws but doesn?t IMO really throw himself fully into Bernadotte affairs.

For those who hoped Daniel would be godfather finally, sadly he did not make the cut again.

Julian's godparents:

-Patrick Sommerlath: Carl Philip's cousin. Carl Philip is godfather to one of Patrick's twin daughters (the twins were bridesmaids in their wedding)
-Frida Vesterberg- Sofia's cofounder for her charity Project Playground
-Johan and Stina Anderson- Stina is a long time friend of Sofia, and Johan is her husband.Stina is the owner of a shoe brand.
-Jacob H?gfeldt- a school friend of Carl Philip

How long have royal christenings taken place at Drottingholm Palace?

The Royal Palace in Stockholm has also been used many times. Both Palaces date from the 18th century, though Drottingholm is actually older, and my guess is that until the Stockholm palace ceased being used as a royal residence the vast majority of royal christenings took place there, with weddings and funerals generally being held at the cathedral in the capital in more modern times. Below is an article on christenings in the Swedish royal family.

Sweden?s royals follow Dutch and confirm same sex marriage is no bar to the throne ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/sweden/swedens-royals-follow-dutch-and-confirm-same-sex-marriage-is-no-bar-to-the-throne-167285/)

Quote

A future monarch or heir to the throne in Sweden wouldn?t have to give up their royal role if they were to contract a same sex marriage.

The Marshall of the Realm confirmed that a same sex union would not be a bar to succession, just days after the Dutch Prime Minister issued a statement along similar lines.

Aftonbladet newspaper reported that Marshal Fredrik Wers?ll had looked at the rules surrounding royal marriage which stipulate that a prince or princess must have the government?s consent to marry if they are to retain their place in the line of succession. He has concluded that a same sex marriage would not be treated any differently and would only require the consent of the government, at the request of the monarch.

His decision follows an announcement by Mark Rutte who said last week that a future Dutch monarch or heir could enter into a same sex union. His comments came after a new book asked whether the current first in line to the throne, Princess Catharina-Amalia, could become queen if she married another woman. Mark Rutte said ??The government believes that the heir can also marry a person of the same sex.? He also addressed the succession status of children born to a same sex royal couple, saying ?it?s just very dependent on the facts and circumstances of the specific case, as you can see by looking back at how family law can change over time.?

Same sex marriage is now legal in most of the European countries which still retain monarchies. However, so far, only the Netherlands and Sweden have openly stated that same sex marriage would not be a bar to the throne or succession rights.

Family drama after beloved royal dog escapes from royal palace ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/europe/sweden/family-drama-after-beloved-royal-dog-escapes-from-royal-palace-169125/)

QuoteMost royal watchers will be familiar with Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden and their three children. But Siri, the family?s small border terrier, might be a less familiar member of the family. There was mild family drama last week when the family?s beloved dog managed to escape ? and not for the first time.

Prince Carl Philip has previously described Siri as a free soul who is not always so easy to control. The four-legged friend has managed to escape from their residence several times before.

This time, Swedish newspaper Expressen reports that a 20-year-old woman called Angelina found the dog during a walk with her friend at Djurg?rden in Stockholm last week. Angelina says that the border terrier was very calm and seemed to feel at home in the area. There was a phone number on the dog?s collar but no one answered when she and her friend called.

Her friend suggested that it might be the prince?s dog as they live nearby and chose to take the chance to knock on the door to ask if it was Carl Philip and the family?s dog. They were indeed correct. The prince himself came to the door with one of his sons to thank Angelina and her friend.
