QuoteWe are a network of specialist sexual assault referral centres (SARCs) located across London and open 24/7. Our three centres work closely together to ensure that the same level of service is provided wherever a victim of sexual assault presents.

By providing a good, immediate service, we can reduce the risk of long-term problems as well as preventing the loss of evidence, which is crucial if rapists are to be convicted and prevented from committing further assaults.

We are centres of excellence and our work is internationally recognised as gold standard in the field. Since opening in 2000, we have welcomed more than 20,000 people for specialist care after rape or sexual assault

Afterwards she visited the Metropolitan Police to view the TecSOS system that alerts the police to domestic violence crimes.

Prince of Wales attends King Charles I exhibition | Daily Mail Online (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-5326907/Prince-Wales-attends-King-Charles-exhibition.html)

QuotePrince Charles no doubt felt a certain sense of the familiar this evening as he attended the Charles I: King and Collector exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.

The royal, 69, was given a private tour of the exhibition by curators Desmond Shawe-Taylor and Per Rumberg and paused in front of a portrait of the king himself painted by Anthony van Dyck in 1633.

Charles I was born in Fife, Scotland, on November 19 1600 and became king when he was 24 years old but his conflicts with parliament led to a civil war.

An ancestor to forget perhaps? :hehe:

But the Stuarts lacked the dignity, clarity and focus of the Tudors. That is what brought them down in the end. People could tolerate James but Charles was just getting way above himself. Elizabeth I had already shown them that it was quite possible to execute Scottish monarchs if they became trouble so they already had their trial run with Mary Stuart.

He's not an ancestor of Charles. His sister Elizabeth Stuart is. Diana descends from Charles I and so do William and Harry. They have Charles I in their bloodlines via James II and Charles II.   The Tudors monarchs reigns died with Elizabeth I, although the current royals descend from Henry VIII's sisters Mary and Margaret.

Descendants of Charles I of England - Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Descendants_of_Charles_I_of_England) QEII is a relative but not a descendant.

QuoteMany of today's European royalty can claim descent from Charles, such as Juan Carlos I of Spain, Franz, Duke of Bavaria, Philippe of Belgium, Henri, Grand Duke of Luxembourg and the late Otto von Habsburg and many are related to him via collateral bloodlines, such as Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and Margrethe II of Denmark. He is also the ancestor of Diana, Princess of Wales, mother of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry who are second and fifth in line to the Succession to the British throne after their father Charles, Prince of Wales.

Yes, royal, I agree about the Stuarts. They were an ill-starred lot. On the whole they did not make good rulers, at least in their later manifestations, James I -timid, swayed by male favourites, corrupt in the selling of peerages, Charles I- doomed, intransigent, with poor judgement, Charles II- in the pay of the French monarchy, rather dissolute. Mary Queen of Scots had the worst judgement of the lot. Practically every decision she made as monarch of Scotland was the wrong one.

Post by: sandy on January 30, 2018, 01:20:05 AM
The last of the Stuarts had tragic lives. Queen Mary II married a man (King William) who did not really love her and had a mistress--Mary miscarried the only child conceived of the marriage. Queen Anne had many many miscarriages and children who died in infancy. Her only child to survive infancy was the Duke of Gloucester who was ill during his life and died young, predeceased his mother. The German Georges were next in line. Mary Queen of Scots had self destructive behavior, the last straw was her marrying Bothwell who was rumored to have arranged the assassination of Lord Darnley.

The senior thing is part of the visit, shes also seeing staff and students, the age of the dancers doesnt really matter, although she gets a bit of a bye in that its the whole seniors staying active, but you know how her stepping into Diana's alleys makes me feel...a rare un-grey part of my postings.

I think she should have not gotten involved with the ballet patronages. There are others out there that don't have reminders of Diana.

I think C and C should stay away from talk shows and avoid possible embarrassing photo ops.

But @sandy  they are so popular that they need all these PR stunts to make people notice. To bad the only ones that ever care are the same ones who care simply because of their title.

Charles always wanted to be the POW who was remembered for something & he will be.     To bad it is won't be for something good.

Prince Charles reveals cracked and tired looking hand | Daily Mail Online (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-5345191/Prince-Charles-reveals-cracked-tired-looking-hand.html)

QuoteAs the heir to the British throne, Prince Charles spends much of his time waving to crowds and pressing the flesh.

Which makes the rather painful-looking cracked palms he showed off at an engagement in the Cotswolds on Friday all the more unfortunate.

The royal was photographed at the newly restored Cotswold Canal, where he cut a ribbon to mark the completion of the Wallbridge Lower Lock, in Stroud.

But as he waved to the waiting crowds the 69-year-old, who recently announced he would be scaling back his charity duties as he prepares to turn 70, exposed red and severely chapped skin on his right hand.

It is unclear whether what looked like a sore on the heel of the Prince of Wales' right hand was the result of an injury, or simply a case of the bitter winter temperatures taking a toll on Charles' skin.

The Prince of Wales will travel to Barnard Castle, where he will visit The Bowes Museum and the new Barnard Castle Emergency Services Station.

The Barnard Castle Emergency Services building is shared between County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS), Durham Constabulary, North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) and Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team.

The build began on Wilson Street at the site of the old fire station, in February 2016 with CDDFRS moving in on March 10, 2017, closely followed by the others who were all moved in by the end of April.

?3.78m was awarded by the government to CDDFRS to build the station, which will be the first of its kind in the country.

On arrival at the emergency services building His Royal Highness will be met by Chief Fire Officer Stuart Errington who will introduce him to some of the staff from all four emergency services who work at the station as well as some of those involved in the planning and construction of the building.

The Prince of Wales will then be invited to unveil the official plaque commemorating his visit to the station. Chief Fire Officer Stuart Errington said:

?It is a great honour and privilege to welcome His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to our new emergency services building which is the first of its kind in the UK, and to showcase some of the fantastic work we do in Barnard Castle to help keep the community safe.?

NEAS chief executive Yvonne Ormston said:

?Bringing our emergency services together in this way is a model which could potentially be replicated in other regions. We are incredibly proud to be able to demonstrate how breaking down the boundaries between the separate services could make a difference to our services as well as the communities we serve.?

Durham Police, Crime and Victims? Commissioner Ron Hogg said:

?This is a great example of emergency services working together to provide upgraded facilities and services to the public whilst also saving money.?

A comment from Richard Palmer's Twitter Page, today.

Former US Vice President Al Gore visited Prince Charles again in London yesterday. The two have both campaigned on environmental issues but it?s interesting to see the close ties between US Democrats and CH and KP continue. No sign so far of similar links with @realDonaldTrump.

The Prince of Wales, who is also the royal patron of intelligence services, made an unannounced visit to MI5 headquarters on Wednesday.

His surprise appearance comes after the rising tensions between the UK and Vladimir Putin.

The poisoning of Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, has caused much angst between the UK and Russia after it took place on British soil.

The Prince of Wales visit was listed in the Court Circular which shows past and present royal engagements. It revealed that Prince Charles was in attendance at Thames House, Millbank yesterday, which is the headquarters of the Security Service.

QuoteThe Prince of Wales has recorded a video in which he expresses support for people who are persecuted because of their faith around the world.

Prince Charles, who will one day become Supreme Governor of the Church of England, has released the message on Good Friday for the Easter commemorations.

His speech was inspired by the 69-year-old?s recent meetings with Christian Church leaders from the Middle East including the Coptic Pope, the Chaldean Archbishop of Erbil, and the Melkite Archbishop of Zahle and Forzol.

The video was recorded at Clarence House, earlier this month.

Glad to see him use more Christian motifs in his speech, someday soon he'll be Defender of the Faith, hes got to lay off this multi-faith business and do his duty, as Christians will be tested in the coming years. He like to stick his nose in, would like to hear him speak out more for the Coptic Christians being persecuted and the Farmers in South Africa.

The CHOGM leaders go into retreat on Friday at Windsor to discuss several issues, including whether Charles will succeed his mother as Commonwealth Head. The announcement will come then, it's expected.

I hope it's the one everyone expects. Might be a bit of a dampener on things otherwise as members of the BRF will play quite a prominent role in the week's activities.

Incidentally Jeremy Corbyn said that the Commonwealth countries should choose their own PRESIDENT! What! Shows how much notice Corbyn takes of Commonwealth affairs!

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall have begun a two-day tour of the Republic of Ireland with a visit to Cork.

Charles and Camilla started by following in the footsteps of Queen Elizabeth II in 2011 and travelling to the city?s famous English Market.

They pulled up in their black Audi to the sound of a teenage combo drawn from the Barrack Street Brass Band and Music Generation belting out a clapalong version of Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics.

Prince Charles and Camilla - wearing a powder blue suit and coat - were formally greeted by T?naiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Coveney before they turned and walked over to the school children thronging the Grand Parade.

Monday's change was marked with a ceremony attended by the prince.

The original Severn Bridge will not be renamed.

NOthing hilarious about that woman. She probably used them while sneaking around with Charles. I would have liked to have been that cab driver, I would have recognized her and told her what I really thought of her and it would not have been pretty.

Her priceless vignette had the room in hysterics - and even Camilla was laughing too.

That is the thing I really like about Camilla. Does not take herself too seriously or get too bogged down in negativity. The cab ride is a kind of confessional. Those guys never keep quiet and are very knowledgeable. Sometimes I am so distracted that I want them to keep quiet for the journey.

And here we have, I think, the explanation that puzzled everyone for Amal and George Clooney's prime seats at the wedding--an enormous donation by this couple to the Prince's Trust. Introduced by the Sussexes to Charles this award has been long in the making I think. Oprah, also a guest in the Quire at the wedding may have been hoped for as a donor, but it seems so far no luck, though we might hear of her later.

Absolutely true. While today's Queen Regnant and Queen Consorts might not wear quite as many pieces as their predecessors like Queen Mary , Queen Alexandra, Tsarina Maria Federovna etc...they still bring out show stopping pieces now and then. The NL's  Queen Maxima is one of the few younger Queen Consorts who truly enjoys wearing the larger pieces in the Dutch collection.

Well Camilla got what the first wife had now didn't she.

Mary was not a kleptomaniac in the strictest sense. She told a host she'd like to have something and the host would give it to her. Read the biographies before trashing her. She is light years ahead of Parker Bowles and never the other woman.

In more D-Day news: The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are in France representing Her Majesty together with other Allied Leaders.

Quote

The crowds were 5 to 10 deep, between baby boomers, X, Y and Millenials (lots of photos in the DM).  All the 500 veterans who are still alive between 90 and 100 years old are mostly from the UK, followed by US and French, and very likely their last or one of the last times to be seen, as 75 years marks a ''special'' ocassion to see them and they be honoured.  Which also tells another story of which country takes care better of their old folk...

D-Day commemorations: Prince Charles says this was 'probably last chance to pay everlasting respect' to veterans (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/06/06/d-day-commemorations-theresa-may-prince-wales-attend-normandy/)

QuoteIt was a celebration fit for heroes.

The Prince of Wales poignantly said Thursday was "probably the last chance to pay everlasting respect" to the "remarkable" D-Day veterans who were commemorating the 75th anniversary of the landings in northern France.

They came in their hundreds - by boat and even by parachute. They came to pay their respects to their fallen brothers.

Britain's future King took part in a number of events around Normandy to mark the anniversary, and said: "I remember the last time we were there, I will never forget the determination that they still exude by being there. Being at the cemeteries and being at the commemorations.

"They always remember their comrades and their friends and the people they had to leave behind. This country lost countless special people and we owe it to them and their families to go on commemorating this."

I think it's awesome.  Its lovely that the song The Shores of Normandy is number 1 in the music charts for this past week.

The Shores of Normandy - Jim Radford (D-Day 70 Years On) - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOolfjkLoJw)

Quote
Jim Radford was only 15 when he served as a ship?s galley boy on June 6, 1944, making him the youngest known D-Day veteran.
On that fateful day, he helped build the Mulberry harbor at Gold Beach, which allowed the British Royal Navy to get personnel, vehicles and supplies onto the beaches of France.
Seventy-five years later, Radford, who has always been into music ? folk songs, in particular ? has released a new version of a poignant ballad he wrote in 1969 to honor those who died in Normandy.
His song, ?The Shores of Normandy,? has been at No. 1 on Amazon?s singles chart for most of the week, beating the likes of Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber.
Profits from song sales will support the British Normandy Memorial, due to be inaugurated Thursday by UK Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron.
?I?m obviously delighted and extremely surprised to be No. 1 on this particular chart, and I hope it does well because the more copies are downloaded, the more money we?ll have to pay for this wonderful memorial we?re building here,? Radford said in a recorded statement.
?It?s very important to me and other veterans that there should be a place like this where people can come and reflect because we?re not going to be around for much longer to tell the story, and the story needs to be told because people need to learn lessons from it.?
Radford, who was born in Hull and now lives in South East London, said he wrote the song during his first visit to Normandy after the war.
?I had been back to France, but I hadn?t been to Normandy. I remember it all very clearly, but I thought I?d got it all in perspective and I wasn?t going to be emotional about it,? he said in a video on the Normandy Memorial Trust page.
?It wasn?t until I went back, saw the children playing on the beach, that I was sort of overwhelmed with recollection of what I?ve seen and moved to tears by the contrast, as a lot of veterans were.?
It took Radford several years to write it all down and a long time to sing it in public because it was ?a powerful recollection? for him, he said.

In fact she keeps ten hives now at her country home, RayMill in Wiltshire, and sells her honey each year for charity though Fortnum & Mason.

So she was delighted to find a kindred spirit in legendary television baker, Mary Berry, when they met last night at a Bees For Development garden party at Marlborough House In London, raising funds to help people across the Commonwealth out of poverty through beekeeping

She is also one of the few, who lists the event on her Court Circular

Sometime it does announce HM's attendance at church services and who accompanied her, travel arrivals/departures (tours) along with births, marriages and other milestones so it isn't always work related.  :)

However I almost wonder if this announcement about Wimbledon was made in error and should have just been noted on the PoW/DssoC future engagements diary.

Cardinal Newman is the first British saint in 43 years, the last being St John Ogilvie who was canonised in 1976. The last English saints were the Forty Martyrs who were canonised in 1970.

The Prince of Wales has spent many years supporting strong inter faith relationships and encouraging dialogue between different faith groups.

The Duchess of Cornwall was the picture of elegance as she attended a new exhibition at the Fan Museum in Greenwich, London, today.

During the visit, Camilla, 71, tried her hand at a fan-making class with a group of representatives from the Royal Voluntary Service, of which the Duchess is President.

The activity was part of the First Time for Everything campaign, which gives older people the opportunity to try something new locally for free.

I like the idea that the seniors can try a new craft or hobby without having the expense of purchasing the materials.  :xmas4:

QuoteThe carrier, which is taller than Nelson's Column and has a flight deck the size of three football pitches, will have at least 700 people serving on board and the capacity to hold around 1,600 personnel.

A service was conducted by the chaplain of the fleet, with music from the Band of the Royal Marines.

The carrier is the eighth Royal Navy vessel to bear the name HMS Prince of Wales.

The 65,000-tonne warship was united with its sister ship, HMS Queen Elizabeth earlier this month, when the older of the pair returned from the US, where it had been carrying out trials of its F35B Lightning jet fighters.

Image caption HMS Queen Elizabeth, right, returned to its home port last week

The two 919ft (280m) long aircraft carriers, which cost ?3.1lbn each, are expected to be in service for the next 50 years and are the largest and most advanced warships ever built for the navy.

Major upgrade work has been carried out on the jetties at Portsmouth to allow the ships to berth beside each other.

The duchess' role as sponsor is "akin to being a godmother", according to a navy spokeswoman, and means she will attend significant events "during the life of the ship".

And the belt tied like a rope....

I'd have gone more polished and formal to the @Wabby

What I find interesting is in his will he left those 50M with instructions to exclusively purchase a new yacht for the Royal Family, Monarch to Monarch passing it down.  The maintenance and uplift as soon as they have it will be DOL money matters.
Title: Re: The Prince of Wales & The Duchess of Cornwall - Duties / Engagements
Post by: Curryong on December 11, 2019, 08:19:38 PM
Sir Donald Gosling used to lend the RF his own yacht on occasions. It was nice of him to leave ?50 million to the BRF to purchase their own yacht. Unfortunately I don't think the amount is going to cut it. The yacht will need a crew. On the 'Britannia' and the 'Victoria and Albert' the crews were all serving Royal Navy officers. This entailed special arrangements with the RN, for pay and so forth.

Then, where is this vessel going to be moored? The annual fees for that will be a pretty penny. As well as ongoing maintenance of everything.

An ongoing agreement will have to be made with the Govt, if, as with the other Royal Yachts it's going to be used as a reception and entertainment venue for foreign leaders on overseas tours. There are likely to be screams of outrage from some politicians if the yacht is used, as the Britannia was, on holidays around Scotland or to meet royals after a Commonwealth tour with Royal children on board.

And would ?50 million really be enough to purchase a yacht with the amount of accommodation it would need, not just for the crew and RPOs but the expanded RF, Queen's children, grandchildren, great grandchildren etc on certain holidays around Britain's coastline? It seems to me that by the finish it may well end up costing nearly twice as much, and that is something neither the Queen nor the Royal Household nor the Govt would be willing to contribute to, considering current attitudes towards wealth and the BRF. Maybe they could lease a yacht for prestigious foreign trips and use the money that way.
