While most of the RIF members are familiar with the life of the late Duke of Edinburgh, here's an overview of his life on the centenary of his birth. Remembering Prince Philip on the 100th anniversary of his birth ? Royal Central

QuoteThe Duke of Edinburgh was one of the towering figures of British royal history. For over seven decades, he was at the forefront of royal life. He became the longest serving consort in British history, just one of several royal records attained during his long life. However, it was his ability to shape an ill defined role to his own suiting and his passion for a wide range of causes that became his legacy. His loss leaves a huge gap in the House of Windsor.

Her remarkable reign is a lovely phrase to honor such a remarkable lady.

I like the fact that a rose was named after Prince Philip.
I checked sources and recalled that there had been a Duke of Edinburgh Rose introduced in the United Kingdom in 1868. It was named after Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh.

Until 1986 and the retirement of her horse "Burmese", The Queen rode in her annual birthday parade.

Since then, she's used a carriage. Burmese was a gift from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1969 & became her royal steed for 18 years.

I can actually remember the Queen riding Burmese. In Britain and the realms all cinemas ran the same short colour clip of the Queen at the Trooping of the Colour ceremony on her official birthday, for a couple of decades after she came to the Throne. She was on horseback for it in those days and took the salute. Burmese was especially famous.

Everybody was supposed to stand as they played the National Anthem to accompany it, God Save the Queen, in Britain and in Australia anyway. It finished cinema performances for the day every day. My ex as a young boy was at a cinema with a mate when he was told off by the cinema manager for not standing.

I by chance saw a great show om HM, called *The Queen at War* om PBS.......a wonderful show and it showed how WW2 made her the Queen she was. I don't know if PBS is available anywhere else but if you read amd like the history of England, this show might be of interest to those that do.

No worries @Nightowl. Every now and then we all seem to have tech issues  This sounds like a wonderful program and I'll look for it.

No public events to mark the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II?s death ? Royal Central

QuoteAs the first anniversary of her death nears, a spokesperson for King Charles III has announced that there will be no public tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September.

The government is not planning any public events to mark the occasion, and a permanent tribute is still in the early phases and will not be ready in time for the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II?s death.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson has confirmed that King Charles and Queen Camilla will mark the day ?quietly and privately,? following a tradition set by Her Late Majesty.

The King is expected to be in Scotland through to the anniversary on the Balmoral Castle estate in Aberdeenshire. King Charles?s private home, Birkhall, is in the grounds of the estate.

So the Sun newspaper was talking out of its behind again as usual. The entire RF beside the Sussexes who are barred are going to gather together for special events and a service to mark the one year anniversary of the late Queen?s death they crowed. No, Lies and lies and lies.

There?s an open invitation to the Sussexes to go to Balmoral, according to Rebecca English. They are not barred. The rest of the family aren?t gathering to mark the sad anniversary of the death, contrary to what the Sun announced, and King Charles isn?t doing anything to mark it as they said he was going to. Instead, like his mother, remembering her father at Sandringham every Feb Charles (and Camilla) will be quietly staying at home at Birkhall.

If journalists at tabloids like the Sun were paid for each article that they wrote that was proved accurate and truthful, the majority of the so called journalists would be sitting with begging bowls on the street at the end of each month!
