AbsolutelyWilliam] Security scare at station in run up to arrival of Queen

There has been a major security alert at Waverley station in Edinburgh just hours before the Queen's due to arrive  there on the Royal train.

The bomb squad has carried out two controlled explosions on a suspect car inside the station, which is believed to have been in the short-term car park for a week. Part of the station has been re-opened to the public after being evacuated earlier today, but the car is still being investigated.

The Queen heads north today following yesterday's celebrations marking 50 years since her Coronation.

The visit to the parliament is not without controversy, as up to 20 MSPs are boycotting the event in protest against the Monarchy. Labour has had to issue a three line whip to ensure its members attend.

This is the third time that the Queen will have addressed the Scottish Parliament. Last year in Aberdeen she raised a few eyebrows by pleading with voters to give devolved Government in Scotland a chance to work. Convention dictates that the sovereign would not normally voice an opinion which could be construed as political.

She will be met by the Parliament's new Presiding Officer, George Reid, and introduced to the Leaders of the country's political parties - apart from the Scottish Socialist Party.
