I think her avoidance of public appearances is more her own choice rather then anyone elses.

It would be nice if the Emperor of Japan could meet with the Queen of Canada, but however he will be greeted by the Governor General instead (who's The Queen's Representative).

Globe and Mail: For the Emperor of Japan, a sentimental journey

QuoteEmperor Akihito of Japan is the first of his exalted status to make an official journey to Canada. But for the elderly, gentle man who occupies the millenniums-old Chrysanthemum Throne, much of his 12-day visit has been a trip down memory lane.

More than a half-century ago, when Japan was still recovering from the ravages of the Second World War and Canadian feelings were still raw over Japanese wartime atrocities, it was to Canada that a shy, somewhat nervous, then 19-year-old Crown Prince made his first foreign trip abroad.

Princess Aiko is full of fun and fire, as these pictures show. The daughter of Japan's Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako had reason to cheer, as her team, won a relay race during an annual autumn sports event at her Gakushuin elementary school in Tokyo Saturday.

Wow, what long hair! It is good to see that the little princess is not as adversely effected by the limelight as her mother has been.
