We will all witness the Coronation of Charles III (anointment/crowning of Queen Consort)

The essential elements of the coronation have remained largely unchanged for the past thousand years. The sovereign is first presented to, and acclaimed by, the people. He or she then swears an oath to uphold the law and the Church. Following that, the monarch is anointed with holy oil, invested with regalia, and crowned, before receiving the homage of his or her subjects. Wives of kings are then anointed and crowned as queen consort. The service ends with a closing procession, and since the 20th century it has been traditional for the royal family to appear later on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, before attending a banquet there.

(Queen Elizabeth's accession on February 6, 1952, her coronation took place on June 2, 1953, over a year later).

Tomorrow: Charles will be formally proclaimed King. He will also meet with the prime minister and the cabinet, the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Dean of Westminster.

The Coronation procession through the streets will most likely be much shortened and simplified. In 1953 Britain was still a colonial power and thousands of troops marched in the streets.

They may shorten the service a bit as well. Charles is likely to be 74 when the Coronation happens (probably in the warmer months next year) and Camilla is older at 75. Might be a bit much. Victoria was exhausted and she was a teenager!

They are dealing with the death of the Queen at the same time as official duties are the order, as usual. I've always thought what an awful thing that must be.  I think he will do very well, but I doubt he is thinking much beyond his loss at this point. He loved his mother.

Yes, it should be a magnificent ceremony. Photos of the outdoor portion of the ceremony have been taken though, as far back as George V?s reign.

?Then, secondly, the new King holds his first Privy Council.

Charles will make a personal declaration about the Queen and then take the oath to preserve the Church of Scotland ? because in Scotland there is a division of powers between Church and State.

Afterwards, the first public proclamation of the new sovereign is read in the open air from the Friary Court balcony at St James?s Palace by the Garter King of Arms in the presence of the Earl Marshal and two of the sovereign?s Serjeants at Arms.?

I hope there are no publicity-seeking politicians making mischief. It is a solemn occasion and should be treated as such.

I thought the same thing yet there is always someone who wants to toot their horn and makes sure they are noticed in the public eye.  This is a horrific time for Charles more than anyone else in the family as he beside grieving for his mother, he must preform the duties he was born for.  The burden must be extremely heavy at this time. I remember seeing pictures of him at Philip's funeral with tears in his eyes.....my heart goes out to him as this is so soon after losing his dad...as we all know *grief knows no time limits* and he must still be grieving and thinking of Philip at this time also.

I still can not believe HM is gone...I kinda suspected it a while back yet the shock of losing her is hard to bear, sure I did not know her personally yet from early childhood she was my fairy tale queen until later in life I learned about her job and duties and that made me admire and love her more then ever, even in good and not so good times. HM kept her word to the end, still working and doing her duty 2 days before her death, I so very much will miss her smile and those baby blue eyes sparking at events or on the balcony.

My favorite balcony appearance was when she was dressed in that gorgeous blue with little Louis shooting at the planes and trying to get her attention..that smile and the turn of her head made me chuckle at her sense of humor...

This is interesting news about Prince William. I wonder how much he will step up to support his aging father.

I would like to think that William who learned all from his grandmother the Queen about duty and responsibility to the monarchy would stand by his father and help in any way he can.  William has grown and changed over the years, he is less angry at his dad and more settled within himself. I think having a very loving wife who understands him and what his life entails and the 3 feisty beautiful children has made him look at his life and how he can handle the pressures and duties coming his way. William, I believe is a strong man now and like HM suffers no fools, even those in the family.

Sometimes *forgiveness* can be and is highly overrated for those that want to continue to hurt and work to destroy a family...I think it will take forever and a day for William to forgive those that have attacked and lied and bad mouth the royal family. All William has to do in regards to Ca is *just turn your back, walk away with your head held high and close that door for the good of yourself and your family*....Even now I expect that is what William will do.

Yes, well there isn?t that much great history behind the names of the two Stuarts who succeeded to the English/Scottish Throne is there? One extremely stubborn individual who believed in the Divine Right of Kings and had his head cut off for it after the country became embroiled in a nasty Civil War.

And his son, the Merry Monarch, who was an energetic womaniser and who secretly took money from the French King. Not much to crow about there, then!

King Charles' inaugural speech in full
I speak to you today with feelings of profound sorrow. Throughout her life, Her Majesty The Queen  my beloved Mother  was an inspiration and example to me and to all my family, and we owe her the most heartfelt debt any family can owe to their mother; for her love, affection, guidance, understanding and example.

Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing. That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today. Alongside the personal grief that all my family are feeling, we also share with so many of you in the United Kingdom, in all the countries where The Queen was Head of State, in the Commonwealth and across the world, a deep sense of gratitude for the more than 70 years in which my Mother, as Queen, served the people of so many nations.

In 1947, on her 21st birthday, she pledged in a broadcast from Cape Town to the Commonwealth to devote her life, whether it be short or long, to the service of her peoples. That was more than a promise: it was a profound personal commitment which defined her whole life. She made sacrifices for duty.

Her dedication and devotion as Sovereign never waivered, through times of change and progress, through times of joy and celebration, and through times of sadness and loss. In her life of service we saw that abiding love of tradition, together with that fearless embrace of progress, which make us great as Nations. The affection, admiration and respect she inspired became the hallmark of her reign.

And, as every member of my family can testify, she combined these qualities with warmth, humour and an unerring ability always to see the best in people.

I pay tribute to my Mother's memory and I honour her life of service. I know that her death brings great sadness to so many of you and I share that sense of loss, beyond measure, with you all. When The Queen came to the throne, Britain and the world were still coping with the privations and aftermath of the Second World War, and still living by the conventions of earlier times.

In the course of the last 70 years we have seen our society become one of many cultures and many faiths. The institutions of the State have changed in turn. But, through all changes and challenges, our nation and the wider family of Realms  of whose talents, traditions and achievements I am so inexpressibly proud  have prospered and flourished. Our values have remained, and must remain, constant.

The role and the duties of Monarchy also remain, as does the Sovereign's particular relationship and responsibility towards the Church of England  the Church in which my own faith is so deeply rooted. In that faith, and the values it inspires, I have been brought up to cherish a sense of duty to others, and to hold in the greatest respect the precious traditions, freedoms and responsibilities of our unique history and our system of parliamentary government.

As The Queen herself did with such unswerving devotion, I too now solemnly pledge myself, throughout the remaining time God grants me, to uphold the Constitutional principles at the heart of our nation. And wherever you may live in the United Kingdom, or in the Realms and territories across the world, and whatever may be your background or beliefs, I shall endeavour to serve you with loyalty, respect and love, as I have throughout my life.

My life will of course change as I take up my new responsibilities. It will no longer be possible for me to give so much of my time and energies to the charities and issues for which I care so deeply. But I know this important work will go on in the trusted hands of others.

This is also a time of change for my family. I count on the loving help of my darling wife, Camilla. In recognition of her own loyal public service since our marriage 17 years ago, she becomes my Queen Consort.

I know she will bring to the demands of her new role the steadfast devotion to duty on which I have come to rely so much. As my Heir, William now assumes the Scottish titles which have meant so much to me.

He succeeds me as Duke of Cornwall and takes on the responsibilities for the Duchy of Cornwall which I have undertaken for more than five decades. Today, I am proud to create him Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru, the country whose title I have been so greatly privileged to bear during so much of my life and duty.

With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the centre ground where vital help can be given. I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas.

In a little over a week's time we will come together as a nation, as a Commonwealth and indeed a global community, to lay my beloved mother to rest. In our sorrow, let us remember and draw strength from the light of her example.

On behalf of all my family, I can only offer the most sincere and heartfelt thanks for your condolences and support. They mean more to me than I can ever possibly express.

And to my darling Mama, as you begin your last great journey to join my dear late Papa, I want simply to say this: thank you. Thank you for your love and devotion to our family and to the family of nations you have served so diligently all these years.

May flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest

Such a very personal and heartfelt speech, he has shown his deep love for his mother, father and the royal family along with the nation of nations now under his realm. I have always admired and loved Prince Charles in good times and not so good times yet he has risen to the occasion.  His deep love for his mother and father and the respect he has shown them will carry him through his time of grief and help him to heal.

An excellent and heartfelt speech by Charles I thought. And I am glad he expressed his love for Harry and Meghan. It is time for reconciliation on both sides, otherwise the deep rift will continue.

The giving to William of his long-held title of Prince of Wales so swiftly was a great surprise. Very different to Edward VII and George Duke of York! It will be difficult for some as Diana was a great Prss of Wales and her spirit still lingers in the hearts and minds of Britons and countless others elsewhere in the world. However, congratulations to the new Prince and Princess of Wales!

The approximate date has obviously been discussed already but not yet announced. Modern Coronations are usually held in the warmer months in order to attract millions of tourists. I think it will be held next year, (historically in more modern times there seems to have been a gap of over a year between death of monarch, installation of the next, but I think 2024 is miles too long to wait this time.) So I?m predicting an August or perhaps September date for 2023.

So Robert Jobson, an RR and one of those innumerable ?royal experts? talking heads that have sprung up like mushrooms in an autumn wood, thinks that Charles may have one of the shortest reigns ever. Well, whatever his so-called expertise on the royals, methinks that Jobson ought to take a course in history.

King Charles III reign may be one of the shortest ever, says royal expert - but history will be kind | The Sun (https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/19762903/king-charles-reign-shortest-dedication/)

A few examples here

Lady Jane Grey, Edward 5th, Richard III are just three that come immediately to mind.

In more modern times William IV reigned for a brief seven years, Edward VIII lasted from January to December 1936 before abdicating, even the Queen?s father, a delicate man, had only 14 full years on the Throne before succumbing to cancer.

Charles has no health problems, lives a healthy lifestyle with the exception of being a workaholic, and had two parents who lived within hailing distance of their century, not to mention a grandmother who lived beyond it. Really some of these ?experts? just write and speak for the sake of it.

Poor little Jane, Edward V and little Richard DoY who were sadly pawns in a deadly game. While Charles is the oldest person to ascend to the throne, I do believe that he'll have more years than those monarchs mentioned in your post @Curryong .

The Queen's cousins, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent and Prince Michael of Kent were present today at St. James Palace.

The Duke of Kent, Prince Michael and the Duke & Duchess of Gloucester come together to mourn The Queen ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/uk/kent/prince-michael-the-duke-of-kent-and-the-duchess-of-gloucester-come-together-to-mourn-the-queen-180649/)

Quotehe Duke of Kent, one of Queen Elizabeth II?s closest relatives, looked sombre as he sat at St. James?s Palace, London waiting for the Garter King of Arms to appear on the balcony overlooking Friary Court to make the official proclamation.

At his side was the Duchess of Gloucester who seemed to lean in and offer him some words of comfort. The Duke of Kent?s younger brother, Prince Michael of Kent, was also present.

The three took their places discreetly at the side of the ceremony. In the main square were military as well as 800 people invited in to watch the historic announcement.

The Queen had the support of her first cousins Edward, Richard, Alexandra and Michael along with their spouses for several decades. They gave up military and civil careers to become her supporters during the years when her own children Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward were too young to perform royal duties. They've carried out hundreds of domestic and overseas engagements and tours on behalf of the monarch and nation.

I do have to wonder what the future will hold for them. Edward and Alexandra are in their eighties and have had significant health issues over the years so it's possible that they will announce their retirement now that their cousin Elizabeth's reign has ended. I believe that the Gloucesters might remain for a little longer but it's also possible that they'll choose to retire as well. However I wouldn't be surprised if the late Queen's cousins continue to work with their patronages.

I think the Duke of Kent hinted at some sort of retirement a couple of years ago when, in answer to a question, he answered (by memory) that while the Queen continued on then so he felt should he. He is now 87 I think and his sister Alexandra is not much younger, so, without rushing, I think we may well see retirement for them both in the coming months. As you?ve mentioned, TLLK, they?ve both had significant health issues in recent years.

The Queen Consort looked less sturdy than usual, which is not surprising given her age and probable lack of sleep. With osteoarthritis one is stiff after sitting or driving for any length of time, and the same probably applies when standing still for a while, which she did all morning.  She is a fan of long walks and does fitness exercises, so hopefully there is no need to be concerned.

^ Also the change for Archie and Lilibet to Prince and Princess.

6. Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor

7. Miss Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor

I'm speculating, I think the slimming down of the monarchy will come with a new letters patent that supersedes the who when and what of titles (Letters Patent for Peerages and Baronetage, both according to official website of UK gov can create, eliminate, make new), IF already done (30 days to publish), usually for the P&B can be found later in the Privy Council website. My speculation is based on the website could have should have and would have ipso facto placed those title changes for everyone mentioned by TLLK and the children of the Sussexes.

The PM Liz Truss will be accompanying the King on his four nation mourning tour of the UK, it has been announced. It?s ostensibly to attend services of reflection with him.

Not sure I agree with that move, however well-meaning. It will politicise it somehow, in my view, as, after all, many members of the British public are Labour Party supporters. Plus, Ms Truss in Scotland is not likely to go down well with Scottish nationalists.

It's back to two households and their own social media accounts, and I don't think William will ever permit a 3rd household when his children are of age. IMO better keep them under the 'wing' until he's King and George POW. As it was before Charles had opened the household of his children.

I also noticed that, she is under extreme pressure at the moment and the look on her face was one of pain and deep grief.  I hope that somehow she gets some time to herself to rest and recharge the body for the coming days, I really feel for her as that osteoarthritis is so painful.

I just read she had it, mine is starting to flare up as the seasons change I think.  Just a pain of growing ole and learning to deal with it and all the other things that happen to the body.....my doc wants me to walk more, slowly yet walking seems to help limber up the aches and pains that then go away....that has worked for me sometimes.   Moving, keep moving he says...LOL

Proclamations are by the GG and each State?s Governor or Territory leader.  More views of flowers being laid etc. The Army gave a ceremonial big gun salute also yesterday.

There was an in depth discussion about this elsewhere and a knowledgeable member stated that although the renovations at BP are continuing on schedule just the rooms on the ground floor of BP are able to be used at the moment as several problems have been found on all upper levels to do with weight-bearing flooring. That would include any occupants? private apartments. Even the Bow Room on the ground floor was being used for the Queen?s coffin rather than the Throne Room due to this issue.

I don't believe that it has ever been officially confirmed, but from looking at the changes in her posture over the years, I do believe that she has inherited the same disease that ultimately killed her mother and maternal grandmother. It's only with modern treatments that its progression has likely been slowed.  IMHO Camilla seems to move her upper body cautiously.

There have been discussions about replacing Charles with an Australian on Australia?s 5 dollar notes, a Treasury official intimated yesterday. The notes already in circulation that have the Queen?s head on them will remain as legal currency however and won?t be withdrawn.

King Charles III will not ?automatically? appear on Australia?s $5 note because Queen Elizabeth II featured due to her ?personal? status, the assistant minister for treasury has said.

?The reigning monarch has traditionally appeared on the lowest denomination of Australian banknote.

?The Reserve Bank will provide further updates in due course.?

The Queen made the transition to our decimal currency in 1966, when she first graced the now-discontinued $1 paper note, and has long featured on the $5 polymer note.?

https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/lawmakers-australian-state-pledge-allegiance-king-89783397

There?s a quirk in Australia?s constitutional arrangements that looks weird to outsiders, and that is that each State legislature has to declare the accession of a new monarch and its parliamentary members then have to swear allegiance to the new monarch. In this case it?s Charles, (as Victorian MPs did yesterday)  although all the State legislatures representatives have already sworn allegiance to Elizabeth II when they entered parliament.

ABC US doesn?t understand this at all as you can tell from this report!

This isn?t so in Federal Parliament in Canberra as each Member of the House of Reps and the Senate just pledges allegiance to the current monarch ?and her/his heirs and successors.?

This anomaly occurs because historically each of the then colonies before Federation in 1901 demanded certain rights and protections as the ?price? for becoming Federated. Several mistrusted the more powerful colonies like Victoria and NSW and wanted a certain independence from national and international decision-making.

And so, even after a referendum taken nationally to become a republic, in theory a State like Queensland or Western Australia could afterward vote to keep the monarch, leading to all sorts of complications. Such a scenario would be extremely unlikely btw, but in theory it?s still possible. Weird, isn?t it? Does Canada have anything similar?

I took a look at the order of Precedence in the BRF now we have a new sovereign.

Order of precedence in England and Wales - Wikipedia (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_precedence_in_England_and_Wales)

As can be seen for males it is headed by Sovereign and Consort, then the sons of the Sovereign then the grandchildren (five at the moment.)

For females it is headed by Consort (there are no dowager Queens) then Charles?s daughters in law, he having no daughters, then by his grandchildren.

Interesting for the males that the Earl of Snowdon takes precedence over Prince Michael of Kent. For the ladies, Lady Sarah Chatto has precedence over Princess Alexandra. I'm speculating that Princess Margaret's children as the grandchildren of George VI take precedence over the grandchildren of George V (Michael and Alexandra). They're also higher in the line of succession as well.

Count me as one of t hose who thought that if Andrew got to wear his uniform than Harry should be able to do the same.  I also think it's impressive that the King reversed the decision of having just Andrew wear his uniform.  To me that shows he is strong enough to realize that a second look is needed, whatever I may think of Andrew's and Harry's behavior.  I certainly hope that HM doesn't back off WHENEVER either of them pushes hard enough or has a temper tantrum (and they are both capable of that), but in this case he did the right thing and I commend him for it.  Meanwhile, ask anyone who served and was in a position where he or she knew they may have to sacrifice their lives and you will find out just how important recognition of that via symbols like uniforms are.

I disagree, they both disgraced themselves.  If they weren't Princes, they'd probably receive a court marshalled for association to a pedo and the other one for trashing the chief commander Queen and family (Read the OATH). I've seen reports of court marshal for LESS, just in case.

Retired and ex-officers cannot be court-marshalled. Harry was long out of the army when he spoke to Oprah in the US about the RF, and even then he said nothing about the Queen?s behaviour. She was the Commander in Chief, not William, not Kate, not Charles. Criticism of various members of the royal family, except perhaps in wartime, is not an offence for which any RETIRED officer can be prosecuted.

The Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) has defined and punished military crimes since its inception in 1950. It?s usually reserved for charging active-duty service members, but the code also allows certain retirees to be court-martialed. Now, certain legal cases are challenging the longstanding rules, which could have significant ramifications for military veterans.

That Code refers to persons who have served or who are serving in the US military. Neither applies to Andrew or to Harry.

I agree that both princes are guilty of bad behavior, and in Harry's case I feel he is almost treasonous.  However, neither has been charged with any crime. I was never in the military, but my husband was and has made me understand that you can never under-rate putting one's life on the line for his or her country.  Certainly Andrew did, and it appears that Harry did as well.  And I fervently hope that the King doesn't make a practice of caving in. I guess I opened up a can of worms - sorry, my friends!

Retired Army Major guilty of dishonestly acquiring historic military vehicles from foreign governments

13 August 2021|News, Fraud and economic crime
A retired Major in the British Army has been sentenced today (13 August 2021) for acquiring tanks and other military vehicles of historic value from foreign governments and museums in an audacious deception.

Major Michael Whatley (Rtd), aged 65 and from Berkshire, pleaded guilty to three counts of misconduct in a public office at Salisbury Crown Court on 9 July 2021. He has now been sentenced to a two year suspended sentence.

Over a period of many years, dating back to 2001, Whatley falsely claimed that he was acting on behalf of the Household Cavalry Regiment and managed to obtain more than 20 historic military vehicles from Belgium, Germany and Sweden, some of which he kept in storage facilities at Ludgershall.

Whatley brokered the sale of a Cromwell Tank for ?65,000, a Sherman Firefly for ?105,000 and an M41 Walker Bulldog, worth an estimated ?100,000.

He made some deals on the basis of an exchange agreement, where he promised to provide items in exchange for military vehicles instead of monetary payment. However, the promised items often would never arrive, meaning that the agreements made by Whatley were fictitious.

Harry

Harry has never been prosecuted for anything, and I would suggest that if he was eligible to be court-martialled as a retired officer then the British Press and media, who know all about the Armed Forces Act, would have been screaming their lungs out for it to be done.

And ?heirs and successors? means those who follow the monarch onto the Throne while the officer or official is serving, not after their retirement. Charles had no constitutional powers over the armed forces when he was Prince of Wales.

I don?t think Dukes of York and Sussex applies when both no longer work Royals just in case

According to The Sunday Telegraph, reportedly King Charles would like to have the governing which members of the BRF qualify as Counsellors of State amended. Currently the Counsellors of State are the following: Queen Consort, PoW, DoS, DoY and Pss Beatrice. Reportedly KCIII would prefer to have working members of the family as CoS.

King Charles III is looking to amend the Regency Act 1937 to remove non-working members of The Royal Family from acting as Counsellors of State.

According to the Sunday Telegraph, the King only wants working royals to act as Counsellors of State ? the members of The Royal Family who would step in to stand in for the sovereign should he become incapacitated.

Currently, the spouse of a monarch and the four adults next in line to the throne who can be called upon to act officially in King Charles III?s place.

The five Counsellors currently in place are Queen Camilla, the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Sussex, the Duke of York and Princess Beatrice.

In the event that The King does become incapacitated, as things stand a constitutional crisis could be in the making as three of the five people who could stand in for him are non-working royals.

If Parliament decides to change the laws, it is possible that the Princess Royal and Earl of Wessex will be called upon to serve as Counsellors of State.

As things stand, Princess Beatrice will continue to serve as a Counsellor of State until 22 July 2034 when Prince George turns 21-years-old and replaces her.

When Queen Elizabeth II was on the throne, the Counsellors of State were Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Andrew and the Duke of Edinburgh while he was still alive.

It is my strong opinion that Harry's behavior is far more serious than merely criticizing a couple of members of the RF in another country.  It's best not to get into a war of words here, but I respectfully disagree with you on the seriousness of his offences, though I totally agree that a court martial would not be appropriate.

Of course it is far more serious. Not only on him (and her) but to the institution of the Monarchy and His Majesty's Government.

Making blank statements of racisim has a huge ramification worldwide. The couple are committed to keep up with the racial hate crime and using their privilege to not be questioned by the law. It is like a teenager blurting out something but is stuck with an 'end' result, IOW if the couple say who it was, the who it was may sue them, they need factual acceptable evidence of racism. If the couple apologize, well dooms day, another lie, and lawfully and legally accountable.

It's a hate crime to keep it floating, if he weren't a prince, he'd be taken in by law to state who it was. In the UK and the USA.

A random joe does what he did (and She too) the law immediately forces them to out the racist hate crime, if they don't there are serious consequences.

Meghan said it and Harry merely confirmed what she said. And in my view it is pointless to keep insinuating here that Harry should be arrested or court-martialled for this and that, when he hasn?t been nor is he going to be. Also citing the law when none of us here are presumably qualified in that profession, is not going to make it so.

I truly think that the one who ought to be ashamed of himself is Harry. If he didn't want to say who it was he should have kept quiet. Many times people take things other people say the wrong way. Harry should have discussed it rationally with the person and not leaped to conclusions as he is wont to do.  In fact, he should have done that before he told Meghan about it in the first place.

could be me but it seems silly and childish to me to make an accusation against someone and then say that one won't say who it is.  If Harry felt so badly about it that he had to make it public, he owed it to his family, surely to make it clear who the guilty party was, rather than leaving a shadow over all his relatives except the queen and Philip. or better still, as you say, keep it private and discuss rationally, with hte person who said it.. even if he got very angry it was surely something he could discuss rahter than make a vague accusation that shaded his relatives.

The late Queen?s demise is likely to be a bit of a blow to the British racing industry. Her love of a day at the races, especially when her horses won, was well known. Neither Charles or William are overly keen on horse-racing. It?s been said in various reports that Queen Consort Camilla is likely to take over the Racing Stud at Windsor but I?m not so sure, especially in the future. The Stud is a very expensive operation to run each year and Charles might regard it as superfluous to requirements. We?ll see, however.

That would of been the adult mature way of doing things yet as we all have seen, Harry is far from a mature adult. I think he runs on his feelings be whatever they maybe at the time, in other words, Harry speaks without thinking most of the time when a difficult situation arises and ends up hurting himself and others.

Has Charles made a proclamation on the subject in the last 24 hours, lol,  or is this just the readership of the Daily Express ranting on the subject?

One of those dodgy and inaccurate Express polls again I see. I?m sure the population does want a pared down RF. No Briton wants to be paying through the nose for a dozen people on the public payroll.

However, there will be royal tours of Britain and of the Commonwealth while the realms are around, and let?s not forget the Waleses have a young family they want to see occasionally. If too much paring down goes on then George, Charlotte AND Louis might as well go to boarding school right now!

And how precisely does he intend to perform the RF duties and engagements with himself and Camilla (both growing older by the year) and William and Kate, presumably? Letting Anne and the Wessexes go into retirement alongside the elderly Kents and Gloucesters?

The poll which was authorized by the Daily Express was conducted by polling company Savanta ComRes in recent days.

Savanta ComRes (https://comresglobal.com/)

QuoteSavanta ComRes interviewed 2,351 UK adults aged 18+ online on 16 - 18 September 2022.

The results of this poll are similar to those in the YouGov poll taken within a couple of days into KCIII's reign.
Britons? first impressions of King Charles III | YouGov (https://yougov.co.uk/topics/politics/articles-reports/2022/09/13/britons-first-impressions-king-charles-iii)

I do recognize that this is a "honeymoon phase" for the new king and from what I recollect of the recent ascensions, it's typical to see a swelling of support when most new reigns begin. We'll have to see how things go forward in the coming months.

As most of Europe's monarchies have limited their number of official representatives of the monarchy to a small number through their constitution or the monarch's personal decree. I expect that in the coming weeks or months that an official announcement will be made to clarify the position of KCIII. I expect that the Kent siblings will retire and quite possibly the Gloucesters. I also believe that there is a good possibility that KCIII will issue new Letters Patent regarding styles and titles for his descendants as well as the Wessexes.

Yes, Charles has made a good start, largely on a huge wave of goodwill, admiration and sentiment towards his dead mother. However, he is a very different character to Elizabeth, and we will see, as I said in a post here in the last fortnight, as to whether these high figures will survive in the months following Charles?s Coronation, and all the years afterwards of this reign. I have grave doubts, myself.

And in a touching nod to his late mother it was painted in oils by artist Alastair Barford, a former QEST - Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust - scholar.

The artist had just two weeks to complete the project.

While His Majesty did not sit for the portrait, Alastair was able to study him at work at a Buckingham Palace reception in February held in support of global biodiversity, working from his photographs and sketches of the occasion.

That is really an historic moment, as is the move from ERII in all courts (which operate in the sovereign?s name) and Govt offices, to CRIII. It?s akin to what people must have felt in the first year of the reign of Edward VII after Victoria died. Seemingly small things like singing ?God Save the King? instead of ?Queen?. First British passports issued in the name of King Charles III ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/uk/king/first-british-passports-issued-in-the-name-of-king-charles-iii-191593/)

QuoteThe first British passports in the name of King Charles III have been issued, the government has announced.

The last time a king?s name appeared on passports was in 1952 as the reign of King George VI ended.

A slow process to change, in 2023, the government noted that five million passports have already been issued in the name of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The UK government decided, as with the case of stamps and money, to use up existing supplies before issuing any new items in the name of King Charles III.

New passports will now say: ?His Britannic Majesty?s Secretary of State requests and requires in the name of His Majesty??

Home Secretary Suella Braverman shared the news, saying: ?For 70 years, Her Majesty has appeared on British passports and many of us will not remember a time when she did not feature. Today marks a significant moment in UK history.?

Any existing passports issued in the name of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will continue to be valid until their expiration, the government further shared.

Canada unveiled its own new passport design in May, the first in the Commonwealth to mention King Charles III: his name is mentioned on the second page of Canadian passports.

Buckingham Palace has been slowly editing and making changes to the official  British Monarchy website in the months since the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Here's the link to the official site. https://www.royal.uk/

The Daily Express noted 74 errors on the website since September 8, 2022.

Prince Harry called HRH on Royal Family's official website despite banning it after Megxit | Royal | News | Express.co.uk (https://www.express.co.uk/news/royal/1798860/prince-harry-hrh-title-royal-family-website)

QuoteThe late Queen Elizabeth II is referred to as monarch at least 74 times on the Royal Family's official website, other royals are called by their former titles and Prince Harry is called His Royal Highness - despite the infamous Megxit agreement of 2020 stating that he would no longer be addressed as such.

On eight occasions, King Charles - who has been monarch for almost a year - is called the Prince of Wales and his wife Queen Camilla is referred to as the Duchess of Cornwall four times.

Prince William and Kate are also called the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge three times. While this is technically correct, as William and Kate do still hold these titles, they became the Prince and Princess of Wales last September and are now primarily referred to as this - as is reflected in their updated individual pages on the website.

Eighteen pages across the leading website, which promises ?to provide an authoritative resource of information?, are factually wrong. Though there may well be more articles across the site that the Express has not yet uncovered.

Royal commentator Afua Hagan has branded the website as ?massively disappointing? and urged the Palace to make the appropriate changes.

It appears that the Daily Express article has prompted some action. Changes were made to reflect the new titles as well as the official residences/offices of the King and Queen as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Prince William is wearing his at the white tie wedding reception of Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa of Jordan.
It's the fourth medal on his coat.

QuotePrince William is wearing his King Charles Coronation Medal for the first time (in miniature). It?s the 4th medal on the end after his 3 Jubilee medals from Queen Elizabeth.

We didn?t see the Royals wearing it during the Coronation events. So, I believe he is the first British Royal wearing it.

King Charles first year on the throne: was it a success
The monarch wants continuity, not radical change and will leave reform to Prince William.

In her explosive Panorama interview in 1995, the biggest bomb that Diana, Princess of Wales, dropped was not her comment that there were ''three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded''.

It was her scepticism that her husband at the time was fit to be King.
Almost a year into the top job, there is quiet satisfaction in the court of King Charles III that Diana who said he would find the job too ''demanding// and ''suffocating''?has been proven wrong.

The pay per view article is very very long about what C has done, what he is doing and what he will be doing long term. The radical changes will be done by W.

I've just published another new @commonslibrary briefing paper, this time on the first year of the reign of King Charles III: focus is on the main constitutional and ceremonial events of the past 12 months; a sort of ''year in the life'' of the UK monarchy: https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-9627/

He?s an historian, writer and a journalist. I remember he wrote a paper for the Commons Library on the devolution of Wales after it happened. As well as a bio (as author not Commons historian) on Alex Salmond, the ex SNP leader.

Tonight the Duke of York and the Duke of Edinburgh attended St George's Chapel at Windsor for a special evensong marking King Charles's accession to the throne.
Photography was not permitted at the event.

evensong: (in the Christian Church) a service of evening prayers, psalms, and canticles, conducted according to a set form, especially that of the Anglican Church.

A whopping 175,000 people are being asked to give their opinion on the Royal Family in a major poll commissioned by the Government.

The unprecedented survey will see ordinary voters questioned on what they think the role of the monarchy should be. Households from across the country are being randomly selected to take part in the exercise. The results of the opinion poll are being relayed to senior members of the Royal Household. Details on what the country thinks King Charles and members of his family should be doing will be made public this summer.

People surveyed are being asked: What do you think should be the main role of the Monarchy in the UK? The options, of which participants can only pick one, include to undertake a constitutional role as Head of State (such as opening each new session of Parliament), to support and encourage public service and charitable sectors and to recognise and support the armed forces.

Other possible choices are to be the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, to provide a sense of continuity and act as a focus for national identity, unity and pride, to promote the UK abroad and to recognise exceptional achievement by issuing honours (such as MBEs, OBEs).

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has commissioned pollster Verian to ask about the monarchy as part of a wider survey. Other questions include how often people visit a library, have they listened to a podcast in the last year and whether they have a smart speaker in their house.

The polling exercise, which will see a total of 175,000 people interviewed, began in May this year and will be completed by the end of March. People who take part are given a 10 shopping voucher as a thank you. The incentive alone will cost an estimated 1.75million.

The Government published some early results last week with the responses from people who took part in the survey between July and September, but they excluded details of what they said about the role of the monarchy. They are due to be released in the summer.

The results of a separate question on major events showed 90% had heard of the Coronation of King Charles, compared to 70% who were aware of the Women's Euro 2022 tournament, which was won by England. More than half (51%) said they had taken part in the Coronation celebrations in May, including 45% who followed coverage on TV and radio, 8% who attended local events and 2% who joined in the national festivities in London and Windsor.

Ahead of conducting this super-survey, the Government has done smaller "interim" ones with 33,000 people each in the past two years, which included a question on the role of the monarchy. The new survey is more than five times bigger.

Last year of the 9,004 people who answered the question on what they thought should be the monarchy's main role, 28% said to provide a sense of continuity and act as a focus for national identity, unity and pride, ahead of 23% who said to undertake a constitutional role as Head of State.

Huge poll will ask 175,000 people why royals exist - before King Charles told results - Mirror Online (https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/huge-government-poll-ask-175000-31756168)

It?s not really a Govt Survey, it?s one commissioned by a specific Govt Ministry or Dept, one that deals with media, culture and Sport among other things. By the way, that Dept has been split into two distinct Depts and Digital is no longer part of it, it?s gone over to the Dept of Science and Technology.

As for practically everybody knowing about the Coronation that would be hardly surprising considering the media were spruiking/mentioning it every day (sometimes several times a day) for months, in comparison to a Women's Soccer contest which people uninterested in sport would have had the opportunity of not taking any notice of. Even in Aus you would have had to have been deaf, blind and otherwise incapacitated not to know about the event.

As for 51% taking part in the Coronation in fact that apparently means most watched it on TV or radio in their homes. That doesn?t mean they all watched it all the way through or just part of it, or fell asleep halfway through. They won?t be asked that!

And I have to say, that for a constitutional monarchy the fact that 49% of the population (almost half) weren't bothered enough to partake in it at all, not even to the extent of turning on a TV, is hardly a ringing endorsement of the institution of the British monarchy!

And I would guess that republicans wouldn?t be interested in taking part in this survey so will be whittled out. That says it all really.

I am very curious to see which of the late QEII'S and Prince Phillip's former patronages will be distributed amo the members of the BRF.

Will the late Queen's cousins be taking on some of these patronages or will they only be distributed among her children and grandchildren who are working members of the family?

Looking forward to finding out the details  this week.
