Margaret was a fairly imperious individual. I have read that at one party she sat smoking while a fellow guest held her ash tray! I think there were lots of things that ended the Snowden marriage, his boredom with the royal round and neediness due to his mother's treatment of him as a child, Margaret not dealing with informality very well and always remembering that she was the Queen's sister, and probably most important, Tony's womanising!

Tony certainly slept around but so did Margaret.  She was a selfish spoiled woman who played at beng informal and then suddenly acted "royal"....
