Countess of Wessex throws support behind #LoveYourEyes campaign ? Royal Central (https://royalcentral.co.uk/uk/wessex/countess-of-wessex-throws-support-behind-loveyoureyes-campaign-167046/)

QuoteThe Countess of Wessex has thrown her support behind the #LoveYourEyes campaign launching today on World Sight Day (14 October).

In an effort to show her support, the Countess visited Perseid School in London to encourage everyone to get their eyes tested. The school educates children from 3-19 with learning disabilities and special education needs.

Her Royal Highness, who serves as an IAPB Global Ambassador, said: ?The key thing I have learnt with all my work from Vision 2020 and IAPB is that the vision sector has really come together over the years, especially for World Sight Day. What is really inspiring to see is that best practices are so easily shared through IAPB. These best practices can hopefully influence everything else and improve the lives of millions around the world who have poor vision.?

Anything to help young children to learn and grow as decent human beings is a huge positive step in the right direction of what royals are all about.....I have always admired the Countess of Wessex as she is a very hard working lady, some in the family that are no longer in the family could learn so much from her about dignity and grace.

IMO it's the perfect place to post it. We know that royals do make private visits to their many charities/patronages that won't be recorded officially. However if we do receive word of them occurring then please  post in the Official Duties/Current Events threads for the British, European, Asian, Middle Eastern and African monarchies.

I agree with her and as a parent/educator understand her concerns. She has two older teens now who have had access to various topics through their school work etc...especially during the  lock down months.
The internet  when used safely is a great resource and has offered students, parents/guardians and educators access to a vast array of information. However we all know the dark side of it as well./

Why is Forfar called Forfar?
The name of 'Forfar' is probably derived from the Gaelic word, Faithir, which means 'watching hill' or 'sentinel'. Certainly, the town's name embodies a sense of 'watchfulness', and the nearby Hill of Finhaven would have been the perfect location for a look-out post.

Quotehe Countess of Wessex has been honoured with a prestigious award for her work to eradicate sexual violence in conflict.

The Countess was presented with the Hillary Rodham Clinton Award at a special ceremony at Georgetown University in Washington on December 5th 2022.

The other winners included Olena Zelenska, the First Lady of Ukraine.

In a speech at the ceremony, the Countess of Wessex spoke of her pride in working alongside female activists, saying ?I listen to their voices, and I hear courage and commitment in every word. They work tirelessly without seeking recognition or accolade, moving heaven and earth to protect and support those in need.?

And she said women had to work harder for acceptance, even in vital areas, than men, adding ?no woman putting herself into that situation would ever do so without being extremely competent. And yet her credibility is challenged, while the capacity or the credentials of the men in the room are rarely in question.?

The Hillary Rodham Clinton Awards are presented annually by the US politician and former First Lady for outstanding leadership in promoting women?s rights and in securing a more peaceful world.

What Netflix documentary? Sophie Wessex attends Royal Navy parade | Daily Mail Online (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-11541551/What-Netflix-documentary-Sophie-Wessex-attends-Royal-Navy-parade.html)

QuoteThe event saw a parade of 200 future naval leaders pass out at the Britannia Royal Naval College ? the spiritual home of the Royal Navy?s Officer Corps.

It was a day to mark the formal end of training, and had suitable pomp and ceremony.

The Countess saluted as 170 Royal Navy cadets, 30 officers from international navies and 17 cadets from the Royal Fleet Auxiliary officially completed months of intensive training at the Dartmouth establishment.

In a speech, she said: 'This is a big moment in your lives ? the moment when you become serving officers in His Majesty?s Navy, the moment when you leave all the hard training behind you and take up the mantle of responsibility.

'Until now you have been looking to others to guide you and show you the way. From now on, it is you who will be leading others. Leading ? and leading well ? takes skill.

'Officers who stand out are those who put the men and women with whom they serve first and in doing so seem to foster bonds of loyalty, credibility and respect.

'A new generation of naval officers is born today. I hope you will be proud of what you have achieved and what you will go on to achieve.'

Prince Edward beams amid rumours he is set to meet Ariana Grande this week | Daily Mail Online (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-11832375/Prince-Edward-beams-amid-rumours-set-meet-Ariana-Grande-week.html)

QuotePrince Edward looked particularly smart when attending a fundraising gala in London on Tuesday - as reports emerge he may be meeting one of the world's biggest popstars this week.

The Earl of Wessex, who turns 59 this Friday, joined guests at the National Youth Theatre's annual fundraising gala at The Londoner Hotel, which raises funds for the the charity to continue its work.

Dressed in a dapper black suit with a crisp white shirt and a bow tie, Queen Elizabeth II's youngest son appeared to be in high spirits.

And his chipper disposition may be explained by rumours he is set to visit the set of the film adaptation of the musical Wicked next week, which stars pop sensation Ariana Grande.

The Sun reported the father-of-two is due to visit the set in his capacity as patron of many arts charities and organisations.

Anderson, CEO of BirdLife South Africa and Chair of the MFM Project Management Committee, announced that His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, who was in attendance, had very kindly agreed to become the Royal Patron of the Project.  The Duke is the younger brother of the United Kingdom?s King Charles III.  Mark noted that Marion Island and the nearby Prince Edward Island together make up the Prince Edward Islands.  He also noted the Duke?s love for the natural environment and his commitment to conserve seabirds and other biodiversity.  It is most fitting that the Duke is supporting the MFM Project in an island group that was named after his sixth-generation ancestor and namesake, Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn (and Queen Victoria?s father) by the British explorer Captain James Cook in 1776.
