On her wedding day, Lady Diana wore the Spencer family tiara.  :Jen:

There was something magic about that wedding. I can certainly remember being glued to the screen for hours watching all the developments. That sort of atmosphere will never be replicated, IMO. It was a different time, no internet users speculating and discussing rumours.

I think that its rather sad... in that yes it was a big thing and attracted so many people, and we were all intrigued by it and by Diana, and it turned out so badly and really was IMO doomed from that day.. as a marriage. It seems very sad that Di was so charming and in many ways a delightful princess and she had a good heart and yet, the thing was that the marriage that propelled her to prominence, was unhappy for both of them.. and probably should never have taken palce

Earl Spencer had suffered a stroke in 1978 that left him somewhat unsteady on his feet when he escorted Lady Diana down the aisle at St. Paul's Cathedral.

Diana's wedding boquet consisted of: Gardenias, Stephanotis, Freesia, lily of the valley, Yellow Earl of Mountbatten Roses, odontoglossum orchids, ivy, tradescantia, veronica, and a sprig of myrtle.
The roses were a tribute to Prince Charles' uncle, Lord Louis Mountbatten.

HOnestly I think the prettiest tiara that Diana had use of was queen Mary's one with the pearls and the Halo effect.  It looked like Anne Boleyns French hoods

I agree that the Cambridge Lovers Knot is a stunner, but reportedly it was noisy and a headache inducer. Had Diana become queen she might have preferred the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland like QEII. Apparently that piece is much lighter and easier to wear.

I always associate the Lovers knot one with Di.

Instead of stating "I, Diana Frances take thee Charles Philip Arthur George," Diana declared, "I, Diana Frances take thee Philip Charles Arthur George".

Diana's train was twenty-five feet long. It was trimmed and edged with precious old lace.
As she was leaving Clarence House a dozen people carried the train behind her and helped her into the Glass Coach that was to take her and her father to St. Paul's.
However, at the Cathedral Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones and India Hicks carried the train up St. Paul's exterior steps.

^ Diana's bridesmaids and pageboys  probably still have very clear memories of things that happened on that day. In spite of everything that happened afterwards the wedding itself was magical.

In After Diana, Christopher Anderson wrote: To the world, the wedding of Charles and Diana at St. Paul's Cathedral surpassed all expectation.

well it was a very splendid ceremony but when you think how much unhappiness and problems flowed from the marriage, it was hardly a good thing.

I think his having both mistresses watch him marry Diana put a damper on things.

Diana's father, who gave her away, was thrilled. 'Darling I'm so proud of you,' he said as she walked down the staircase of Clarence House.

@Duch_Luver_4ever, What British newspapers might do an article about the anniversary of Diana and Charles?

Princess Diana's 25 foot bridal train took a while to be placed in the State Landau.

For royal weddings the Comptroller of the Lord Chamberlain's office is in overall charge of the ceremonial events. Had the Comptroller suggested that Lady Diana go to St. Paul's in a coach other than the Glass Coach on her wedding day?   :hmm: :hmm:

Diana's mother-in-law, Princess Elizabeth arrived at Westminster Abbey with her father King George VI in the Irish State Coach for her 1947 wedding.
Could Lady Diana have used the Irish State Coach to go to St. Pauls?

Trudie

Both Diana and Sarah arrived at their weddings in the Glass Coach as it is traditionally used to convey the royal brides to the church. I wonder though since both left Clarence House that was also a reason as Kate left from the Goring Hotel in a car but also she didn't marry a child of The Sovereign but The Sovereign's Grandson. Also Sophie didn't marry in London so arriving by car in Windsor made sense. Though Sophie and Edward afterwards rode in an open coach through the streets of Windsor.

The Sovereign uses the Irish State Coach for the State Opening of Parliament.
Perhaps for Princess Elizabeth's wedding, it was decided to use the Irish State Coach because the bride's father was the Sovereign.

LouisFerdinand

The bridesmaids Sarah Gaselee and Clementine Hambro enjoyed their ride back in Queen Alexandra's State Coach.
