Thailand's Crown Prince presides over ploughing ceremony

Present at the traditional ceremony, which is meant to herald an auspicious start of the rice-planting season, were Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and his daughter, 36-year-old Princess Bajrakitiyabha, affectionately known as Princess Pa or Patty.

At the ceremony sacred oxen plough a section of a field, after which they are offered plates with rice, beans, alcohol, corn, sesame, grass and water. Depending on what they eat, the traditional soothsayers are able to predict the coming crop year.
