QuoteThe plight of the Syriac Orthodox Church has been a very harrowing one these past few years, with expansions by Da'esh into the Assyrian heartland within northern Iraq and Syria driving hundreds of ancient Christian communities out of the region entirely.

Faced with endemic persecution and the threat of extinction, tens of thousands of Assyrians have fled westward to safer havens in Europe and beyond. The United Kingdom itself has become the home for many of those seeking refuge, and now those of the Syriac Orthodox Church have just consecrated their first cathedral in Acton, West London.

Formerly the Saint Saviour's Church, the consecration ceremony of St Thomas Cathedral was attended by Charles, the Prince of Wales, Ignatius Aphrem II, the Patriarch of Antioch, and various other bishops and representatives of both the Syriac Orthodox Church and the Church of England and nearly 600 other worshipers. The service was led by Toma Dawod Dakkama, the Archbishop of the Syriac Orthodox Church in the United Kingdom.

He is going to be the weakest "defender of the faith" monarch of all time, not saying they shouldnt have sanctuary in england,  but just like they would criticize Diana for politicizing events, it puts him in an awkward position to be suggested to be promoting other religions

It's disheartening to realize that so many Christians in the Middle East are being forced to flee the religious persecution that is occurring there. Glad to see that the Syriac Orthodox Church has found a place for its congregants in London and that a formerly closed church is now a home for another Christian denomination.

Very true, its like having a target on your back down there.

At the risk of the risk of throwing gas on a fire, i find two things interesting, one, that the " SJW trendies" talk about how peaceful Islam is, but yet situations like the one in the thread happen, and two, that the safety that Islam and other religions are offered in the UK and the West, is not reciprocated in a lot of the places they come from.

Just an observation, maybe its just a few bad apples....ill grab some popcorn and wait for the show.... :flower:

IMO what you have stated is true regarding the safety to practice religion in the west and that those guarantees are not available in most nations in which Islam dominates. As to the other observation you may have read about the suspected terror  attack at Ohio State University yesterday in which as Somali refugee attacked students with his car and a butcher knife. Eleven people were injured and the shooter was shot and killed by an officer who responded very quickly.

:goodpost: @TLLK  yeah I did see that, horrible stuff, shades of paris with a vehicle used to increase the carnage. Also they likely picked the target cause it was a "gun free zone" and thus the people are easier targets. Thank goodness a armed first responder was there, and in the classic saying of bringing a knife to a gun fight, the terrorists got dispatched quickly....with a gun.

In between crying over Hillary and the electoral college, I wonder if the logic of the situation will hit them, in their zeal to trample over those students second amendment rights, they made them a target, but when something goes wrong, boy they sure want someone with a gun to show up....
