Charles III (1716-1788) was King of Spain from 1759 to 1788.He was the son of King Philip V and Queen Elizabeth Farnese of Spain.   
Charles III lowered the tax of foreigners to promote the Spanish trade with the Indies.

King Charles III believed that the increase of knowledge would bring about the magnification of royal power.   
This meant consolidating Spain's empire through internal reforms and naval improvements.

The Second Treaty of Vienna on July 22, 1731 officially recognized the Infante Charles as Duke of Parma and Piacenza.
