Glad to see the ALTEC patron there to support the British athletes who are playing in their first matches of the tournament. HLM  QEII was the former royal patron, but wasn't an enthusiastic fan of tennis like the various members of the Kent family and the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

This article shared by @sara8150 has excellent photos of the royals at Wimbledon beginning with King George VI (then Duke of York) playing in the first round of the men's doubles in 1926.

More members of the extended Kent family were present at Wimbledon today. The Earl of St. Andrews and daughter Lady Amelia Windsor were seen enjoying a match and chatting with tennis legend Martina Navratilova. Also Princess Alexandra's granddaughter Flora Vesterburg was also seen at the tournament.

As the tournament moves towards the finals, I'd expect to see more members of the BRF and possibly other royal families in attendance this week.

Why Peter Phillips sat in Wimbledon royal box - but sister Zara Tindall didn't | HELLO!
Peter is firstborn in the family and he is grandson of late Queen Elizabeth and Duke of Edinburgh but don?t forget he is also firstborn son of Princess Anne
QuoteFormer press secretary to the late Queen Elizabeth II, Dickie Arbiter, previously revealed to HELLO!: "It's up to Wimbledon. The Wimbledon organisation makes so many tickets available to Buckingham Palace, some of them are in the royal box, some of them are in prime seats within centre court and those are distributed on a ballot basis."

He added: "As far as filling up the royal box, well, it's really up to Wimbledon who they invite. They will be informed in advance if a royal wants to go or they'll send out an open invitation. Certainly, the Princess of Wales will go, she will go to the Ladies Final, she will go to the Men's Final on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

"She might well go on other days as well and her office will alert Wimbledon to the fact that she wants to go and when she will go, and Wimbledon will do the seating plan accordingly, leaving the sort of front row seats available. But Wimbledon likes to fill up the rest of the seats with celebrities and they don't have any difficulty doing that."

That part of the article copied by Sara (and thanks Sara) about the Royal Box at Wimbledon explains it perfectly. It also explains why Lady CC was in the Royal Box recently. It wasnt that she was invited by any member of the RF. She applied to the Wimbledon authorities for a seat there, just like any other celeb or wanna be celeb in London.

Here's some information about the history of Wimbledon's Royal Box.

https://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/about_wimbledon/royal_box.html

QuoteThe Royal Box has been used for the entertainment of friends and guests of Wimbledon since 1922. The Royal Box has 74 seats. They are dark green Lloyd Loom wicker chairs.

British and overseas Royal Families are invited as well as heads of government, people from the world of tennis, commercial partners, British armed forces, prominent media organisations, supporters of British tennis and other walks of life.

Invitations come from the Chairman of the All England Club, taking into account suggestions from members of The Championships? Organising Committee, The Lawn Tennis Association and other relevant sources.

Guests are invited to the Clubhouse for lunch, tea and drinks at the end of the day.

Protocol - dress is smart, suits/jacket and tie, etc. Ladies are asked not to wear hats, as they tend to obscure the vision of those seated behind them.

Also the tradition of bowing or curtsying to members of the BRF or other royals ended in 2003. The only exception was for Queen Elizabeth II and I would presume that the protocol would now be if the monarch was in attendance.

QuoteNot anymore. In 2003, Prince Edward, who's also president of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, asked the practice of bowing and curtseying to members of the royal family to stop ? the only exceptions will be for the Queen.
