Title: The Duchess of Cornwall Visits Craithie Opportunity Holidays
Post by: cinrit on April 16, 2014, 10:24:32 AM
QuoteThe Duchess of Cornwall has spoken of her pride at being involved with a charity providing holiday cottages for disabled people.

Her Royal Highness visited Crathie Opportunity Holidays, which sits on the banks of the River Dee overlooking the Balmoral estate in Aberdeenshire, to unveil a plaque in memory of a significant donor to the charity.

Margaret Boyd, who died last year aged 92, made an "outstanding" contribution to the project which restored the derelict stables of the manse courtyard at Crathie Kirk in 2002 after years of fundraising.

She had remained an anonymous donor but her family thought it was the right time to honour her memory.

The charity needed £650,000 to renovate the stables and various fundraising events in the local community were held, but more substantial grants were needed.

QuoteThe Duchess of Cornwall visited Crathie Opportunity Holidays on Tuesday to unveil a plaque in honour of an important benefactor to the charity. Crathie is located on the banks of the River Dee and overlooks the Balmoral estate.

Since 2007, The Duchess has been Patron of the charity.

The plaque was to honour Margaret Boyd who at aged 92 died in 2013. After years of fundraising, Ms Boyd made sizeable contributions to refurbish the stables at the manse courtyard at Crathie Kirk inn 2002.
All this time she remained anonymous as the donor. A member of her family felt she needed to be recognised for contribution to help make the renovation come to fruition.
