QuoteThe Duke of Cambridge has been made a personal Aide-de-Camp to the Queen, it was announced today.

William's honorary appointment was detailed in the Court Circular and the Duke wore the insignia for the first time at the St Patrick's Day parade for the 1st Battalion Irish Guards at Mons Barracks in Aldershot, Hampshire.

The position has few duties but will be seen as symbolic of William's growing role within the Royal Family.

It comes after a week in which the monarch, who has been suffering from gastroenteritis, cancelled most of her public engagements.

The Court Circular stated that the Queen "has been pleased to appoint The Duke of Cambridge as a personal Aide-de-Camp to Her Majesty" with effect from today.

QuoteDoctor Who Delivered Prince George Is Knighted by Prince William

Sir Marcus Setchell, the Queen's former gynaecologist, described helping to bring Prince George into the world as a "lovely experience" as he was knighted for services to the Royal Family.

The baby Prince's father the Duke of Cambridge dubbed Sir Marcus a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (RVO) during a Buckingham Palace investiture ceremony.

After receiving his honour, Sir Marcus said that overseeing the team that delivered the future King was a nice way to end his career and that William had given him an update on George describing him as a "bouncing baby".
......
The Queen's former gynaecologist joked about his conversation with the Duke: "I think there's a code that you never report what's been said to you but he did make some remarks about what a bouncing baby George is now."

Sir Marcus said laughing: "He's got a great future I think."

About the garden

QuoteKing Henry?s Walk Garden is a beautiful community garden, off King Henry?s Walk in Islington, which opened at the end of 2007.

Run by volunteers, with support from Islington Council, the garden contains growing plots for cultivation by local residents, where the use of organic gardening methods helps to promote a diversity of plants and wildlife, and a full programme of education and events engages the whole community.

IMO these types of green spaces and places where people in urban areas can grow their own food or flowers are important. Native plants can also be grown to provide  a habitat for smaller animals: mammals, birds, insects, reptiles etc.. :)

Here in our capital, Melbourne, the city fathers were very forward thinking thank heavens and we have botanical gardens, huge parks and a children's farm in the inner city and its centre. There is also a zoo that was set up here in the 1860s with lots of land, which is remarkable really. Australians in general don't live in high density housing. Even in our major cities the suburbs, with a single house on a quarter acre block, stretch for miles. Fruit trees, vegs, herbs, flowers, shrubs, whatever you fancy!

London of course developed very differently, from little villages near the Thames and by the time Victorian building speculators had finished there was often just miles and miles of back to back housing, with barely a blade of grass to be seen in some slums. Thank heavens for Epsom Forest, Hampstead Heath and also other little corners like this one. Anything that encourages people to grow fruit and vegs and be in tune with the natural world is terrific as far as I'm concerned, and this garden sounds lovely.

We have a garden at work with herbs in it and non-thirsty Aussie plants. A lizard called Cecil has taken up residence there and is often seen baking in the sun!

 For drought tolerant native plants and for employers who realize how these gardens can make the workplace a better and IMO healthier place.

Yes, it's a Community Health and Assistance centre. The garden is in a courtyard. There are seats where people can sit and relax, have a bite to eat and drink. It's lovely!

QEII is the current patron. I wonder if this is one that she might be deciding to hand down to another family member?

I like the fact that Catherine is learning about what goes beyond a performance. Costumes play an important part.

I guess she will be working with Davies White, as one article I read mentioned that the DOC will co-design for the RHS Chelsea show as well as two others.
