I still get a bit of a momentary jolt when I read about ?the Duke of Edinburgh? in the Press!

TLLK

@Curryong-I have to admit that I do too. Somehow the transition around the title of "Prince of Wales" and "King and Queen" were easier. Perhaps it's because there's been more of them in the 20th and 21st century.

However pleased I am for Edward and Sophie to have the Edinburgh title, I still can't help but think of Phillip.

Yes, absolutely. They deserve to be on the same level as other royals, though they did have to wait a while.

Even here people said for a few weeks ?It seems weird having a King.? It just took a while to get used to it. And even now, when someone says ?the Queen? I have a moment when I have to think, ?Oh yes, Camilla?. I guess it was much the same when Queen Elizabeth ascended the throne in 1952 after all those Kings, though there would have been elderly people around who remembered Victoria as sovereign.

The big changes came for everyone in early 1901 when King Edward VII came to the throne after his mother?s 64 year reign, and for us living in 2022, as 64 years and 70 years is quite a span in people?s lifetimes.
