Wow, so popped in on this thread after reading my messages and im bowled over by the lack of reading what was said, and as far as arguing "facts" the source of the facts is Diana herself.

So to recap, heres what I said  "Diana would as she said frequently try and date the guys that Sarah had broken up with, mostly with no success, except for Charles."

Notice i said she would TRY and had no success, except for CHARLES. But you all didnt bother to read and comprehend and ran off assuming she dated lots of Sarah's exes.

Again, heres the source with the quote
https://books.google.ca/books?id=5pPyJZ-ANd4C&printsec=frontcover&dq=princess+diana&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj2it6pq8jRAhXKPCYKHUL_B4QQ6AEIGjAA#v=onepage&q=princess%20diana&f=false

and her words : So please all of you with me, turn to page 40 ......"I had crushes, serious crushes on all sorts of people especially my sisters boyfriends. If they ever got chucked out from that department I used to TRY MY WAY. I felt so sorry for them because they were so nice. That was purely it. Anyway, that was a dead miss."
(caps added by me)
What do we have here...Diana's own words, notice neither of us said she SUCCEEDED in it, only that she tried. I also had read something similar about her time living with Sarah as well, but haven't had the time to find it yet.

So again, heres sourced documents quoting the woman herself on tape, but @Trudie would rather attack me claiming all my knowledge is made up from my brief meeting with her, and claims to have pre internet sources that refute Diana's own words. Please scan them and post for us, please. You and sandy having memories of that time dont bother me at all, but you both seem to be greatly bothered by anything that goes outside the tight view of her you both have.

I find it so strange to date your sisters cast-offs. Seems like something out of a cheap telenovela, but again I am not a member of the aristocracy.
:hehe: Why  yes it does sound like a script from one! "Dos Hermanas y  sus novios."
Quote of 2017. I am laughing so hard, I think I will soon be escorted from the office premises.

What I find hilarious about this whole Diana dating her sisters cast offs is Diana was in an all girls boarding school how could she possibly date and left there at 16 then went to finishing school in Switzerland again no boys to meet and landed in London in her own flat with three female roomates while she worked all the time and started dating Charles her first and only male suitor? that was well documented from those who knew and employed her at the time.

What I find hilarious  Trudie is that you neglect the times they would have been on holidays, AND the period of time she LIVED with Sarah in HER flat before she got her own flat(you failed to include that in your timeline).....and "actually" @sandy, Diana said she would try her way with them before she said she felt sorry for them. Dont pull an "actually" like I mis-quoted her or something, I included the whole quote with the source which all of you can look up to see if I got it right (news flash...I DID) you both are pulling a bunch of fake news.

I cannot comprehend how you both will disagree with the womans own words, and that you both along with almost everyone else, did not read what i wrote properly, its like school, read the bleeping question. The fact that you cant admit the error and apologize just shows me that my decision was the right one.

@amabel @TLLK @Curryong even @royalanthropologist  I like you all, but you all either misread what i wrote or only read the latest post and thus made your posts which added fuel to the fire, I know you didnt mean any harm by them. I didnt say she dated a bunch of Sarah's exes, only that she tried to and wasnt successful except for Charles.

"No other member of the Royal Family mattered that year, or I think for the next 17 years, it was just her." Arthur Edwards, The Sun Photographer, talking about Diana's impact.

sandy

I think I can use whatever words I want to. ANd I use "actually" based on what I read. Diana was with Sarah for a brief period of time the two grated on each other and Diana was anxious to be on her own with her own place. Diana also went to a finishing school before she settled in the London flat. Diana did have a short window of opportunity to be on her own before she got engaged to Prince Charles. Diana met Sarah's exes (except Prince Charles) but was underage and perhaps knew they would not be interested in her. Sarah was six years older than Diana after all. She also had a convoluted relationship with the man who was to be her husband, got engaged to him, postponed a wedding with him then married him two years after the original set date. Sarah's major Ex besides Charles was the Duke of Westminster whom she really wanted to marry but he ditched her. Diana was very young then. It is not "fake news."  Diana's men friends that dated her were serious about her but she was not of them. They were not Sarah's exes.  How would Diana "try" to date anybody. She never said "I asked out Sarah's ex." She didn't.  Even if she had a "crush" on a Mr Ex she never told Morton she went as far as asking him out.

According to Morton book: After the Swiss boarding school...They (her parents) told her she couldn't have her own flat until she was 18. Instead she was farmed out to family friends Major Jeremy Whitaker and photographer and his wife Philippa..she looked after their daughter Alexandra and cleaned and cooked. Ye she was itching to move to the Metropolis...Finally...her mother allowed her to stay at her flat in Cadogan Square...it was to be her home for a year, sharing it with Laura Greig and Sophie Kimball..." She also had part time jobs as a waitress and a charlady. ANd babysat....Colehern Court "was Diana's coming of age present from her parents (July 1979). She dated Rory Scott, who starred in the TV documentary Trooping the Colour. Rory said "she was very sexually attractive and the relationship was not a platonic one as far as I was concerenec but it remained that way..She was always a little aloof."

My main goal at the time was a lame attempt to @royalanthropologist's remark about a Spanish language Telenovela in my high school Spanish circa 1981. Apologies to all for taking the thread off topic. Lo siento mucho.

@TLLK. That telenovela comment made my day. I loved it so much. The entire Charles and Diana saga (with the supporting casts of CPB, Kanga, APB etc.)  would be a perfect storyline for a telenovela. Absolutely perfect in every way.  :goodpost:

amabel

why on earth would a pretty girl like Diana be bothered to try to date her sisters' ex boyfirends? she had her own admirers, and if she had any special interst in a man, it was probably Charles....

Who was the first gentleman Lady Sarah Spencer dated?
Who was the first gentleman Lady Jane Spencer dated?

sandy

I imagine they might have first dated when they were teenagers. I don't know of any record of their first dates. Jane ultimately married Robert Fellowes in 1978. Sarah was very serious about the Duke of Westminster ca. 1976-77 and she ultimately married Neil McCorquodale in 1980.

@sandy is correct in that we are unlikely to ever know who they first dated as decades have gone by since the sisters would have dated anyone. It's possible that when they were first entering the dating scene that they met up with boys from the neighboring schools or with the sons of their family friends.

Curryong

I believe Robert Fellowes was Jane's first serious romance. He was pretty well the boy, or man, next door as his family's home wasn't too far away from Wood Farm.

amabel

well that segment of the upper classes all know each other, through living nearby, marriage and family connextions or work connextions
