The Queen has opened this year's Charleston Festival – to celebrate the power of books and reading for children and young people.

Appearing alongside Children's Laureate Joseph Coelho and local primary school children, Her Majesty named Victorian novelist Frances Hodgson Burnett as one of her favourite writers – before joking that she herself, is not Victorian. Report by Matthew Covell



Queen Camilla visits the Church of St Mary and Lamb House in Rye, East Sussex. Historic Lamb House, once home to novelists Henry James, Rumer Godden and E.F. Benson, also hosts a literature collection the Queen viewed as part of a tour of the property. The Prince of Wales attends an event celebrating global efforts to tackle antimicrobial resistance.

AMR occurs when the microbes that cause infections develop resistance to treatments and as a result, infections become more difficult or impossible to treat.

Prince William used his speech to call for action to tackle AMR and "to create a real legacy in 2024 for the sake of the millions affected by AMR now, and for the sake of the generations that will follow." Report by Matthew Covell.
