Top 5 outgoing State Visits from Queen Elizabeth II ? Royal Central

Included in the article are the State Visits to the last outgoing visit which was Germany, the historic trips to the Republic of Ireland, Yugoslavia, Russia, and the USA during the Bicentennial.  :snowflake:

I love Russia so the whole trip of the Queen's to Russia was fascinating to me. The visit she made to the Republic of Ireland was indeed historic. It was in many ways a healing process on both sides after so many decades of conflict, at least to a certain extent, and was very interesting to observe.

@Curryong-It's astonishing to consider where and when the Queen and DoE were traveling to in all of their decades of outgoing state visits. A visit to a communist nation in the 1970's, who would have thought that possible? The state visit to the U.S. during the Bicentennial cemented the long standing "special relationship" that we have with the UK. A visit to a unified Germany after years of being split during the Cold War. The trip to Russia after the end of the Soviet Union was very significant. However the one that I was not sure we'd see in her lifetime was the first visit from a reigning British monarch to the Republic of Ireland.  :snowflake:

Yes, when you consider how little former monarchs travelled, the Queen is a very globe trotting lady! I think she has visited every part of the Commonwealth at least once, with Charles not far behind, and European capitals too. She has been many times to the US. Pretty amazing when you consider that prior to Edward VII not one monarch had set foot In the Western Hemisphere, if you discount William IV naval sojourns in the West Indies as a young man.

@Curryong-AFAIK the two most notable exceptions to her travel list are state visits to Israel and Greece, however she and Phillip have both visited the country privately on separate occasions.  I do know that both Phillip and Charles have gone to Israel on private visits though to visit Princess Andrew's grave site.

Why has the Queen never visited Greece? - BBC News

Princess Andrew was honoured by the Israeli government of course for helping to hide Greek Jews during the war. She had formidable courage and determination which her son inherited I think.

Not sure why the Queen never visited Greece. It might have had something to do with the British Government's disapproval of Greek politics at various points, the same with the situation in the Middle East and Israel. Very sensitive at times.

Who went to Constantine and Anne Marie's wedding? I can't remember and suppose it was Prince Philip flying solo as usual. I'm sorry, on my usual hobbyhorse with this subject, but I just feel that Elizabeth, despite shyness, could have put herself out more to visit other monarchs and royals for weddings, funerals, birthdays. It's too late for her now of course, but some of those ties have frayed as a consequence, which I think is a shame.

@Curryong-Found it!!!!  Wedding of King Constantine II of Greece and Princess Anne-Marie of Denmark | Unofficial Royalty
QuoteThe Duke of Edinburgh
The Prince of Wales
Princess Anne of the United Kingdom
Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent
Prince Michael of Kent
Earl Mountbatten of Burma
Princess Alice of Greece

So the wedding took place on Sept. 18, 1964 which would have been about six months after Edward was born. It is a fairly large British representation including the two former Greek royals who had married into the BRF.

AFAIK this was one of the last very large reigning royal=royal marriages.  :vday2:

QuoteThe bride?s attendants (listed below) wore simple gowns of white organza, with white flowers in their hair.

Princess Anne of the United Kingdom
    Princess Christina of Sweden
    Princess Irene of Greece
    Princess Margareta of Romania
    Princess Tatiana Radziwill
    Princess Clarissa of Hesse

ThankYou very much, TLLK. Very interesting! It was indeed a last hurrah to a facilitating of matches between royal Houses, one that had survived for centuries. And none of the bridal attendants below the rank of Princess! You have to hand it to Frederika. If it had taken place a hundred years before there would certainly have been some matchmaking going on!

It was very nice that Charles was there to see it in all its glory. I'd forgotten that Marina with all her familial connections would have been present with her son. Lord Mountbatten too, helping to escort his sister. I wonder whether she wore her nun's robes?
