Very strange story........

The scene is an elegant residence in West London. The doors are locked, the lights dimmed. Inside the darkened room sit the Queen, Prince Philip and other members of the nation's first family.

Opposite them, a tall woman in her early 50s commands their attention with the sheer force of her personality, and by her ability to pluck individuals from the spirit world and order them to relay messages from beyond the grave.

Of all the events in her 62-year reign, this is probably one of those that the Queen would prefer to forget.

The very fact that she should attend a seance to summon forth the spirit of a dead person — in this case, her father, George VI — seems incredible today.  But that alone is not what makes this episode so astonishing — and distressing.
