King Carl Gustaf accompanied a research project out on the Skagerrak to tag bluefin tuna.
Since 2017, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) has been conducting research on the large tuna fish that have once again begun to visit Swedish waters after being away from our seas for almost 60 years.

Wow! I feel like I've been transported back to 2019. I'm sure all involved are vaccinated and tested, but it's simply  wonderful to see a full State Visit banquet again.
And trust the Swedish royals to do so on a grand scale! And there was even an arrival event with the Crown Princess couple greeting the President and his wife at the airport.

 I'm so very happy to see these types of ceremonial events again. The Dutch will hold their opening of parliament next week. Per tradition the royals in attendance wear black and white. This is the contemporary version of the old court dress that was the tradition up until 1974 when the protocol was changed.

Here's the current king's mother Princess Sybilla and his sister Princess Christina wearing the old court dress to the opening of parliament.

Royal Outfit of the Day: March 21
Princess Sibylla, late mother of the King of Sweden, in traditional Swedish court dress for portraits and the formal opening of parliament (center).
A bit of a flashback today, relevant to us for two reasons: 1. This is fabulous, and 2. Tiara intrigue!

1. This is fabulous, plain and simple. What Princess Sibylla is wearing here is one of the Swedish forms of court dress, a formal uniform of sorts that existed for Swedish royal ladies to use on important occasions. They came in a few different versions; this particular one, suited to Sibylla's high place in the royal family, includes a dark gown with exaggerated sleeves and a train, all trimmed in ermine in worn with a veil and tiara. You might recognize this sort of dress first from the similar gowns used at court in imperial Russia, but outfits like this can be spotted on Bernadotte ladies going back many generations. They were kept in use for the opening of parliament in Sweden up until 1974 - not that long ago, when you consider how long this sort of grand gown has been out of fashion. After 1974, changes were made to the actual ceremony involved with the parliament opening, and these gowns no longer had a place. For the same event today they wear modern dress but in a black and white dress code that serves as a faint call back. And if you look closely at gala events, you will see Queen Silvia's attendants still in dark gowns with lattice work on the short sleeves, a form of these court dresses. The oh-so-royal version with train is retired, and would probably be labeled as out of touch if it were used for an event today...but I'd so love to see it resurrected for a portrait someday. It is the height of royal splendor, and shouldn't be forgotten

The King and Queen of Sweden attend Holocaust remembrance event and forum focused on fighting anti-semitism ? Royal Central

QuoteThe Swedish city of Malm? welcomed international heads of state and dignitaries this week for ?Remember-React? ? a forum focused on remembering the Holocaust, as well as the dangers of antisemitism and other forms of racism & discrimination that still threaten our society today.

As the Heads of State of the hosting nation, King Carl XVI Gustav and Queen Silvia made the trip to Malm? to attend the event.

Their Majesties opened several roundtable discussions, met with Holocaust survivors, and held bilateral meetings with the President of Finland and the President of the World Jewish Congress.

The King and Queen were also shown part of the exhibition that the Malm? Fair is hosting in connection with the forum: one about artist Ceija Strojka, a Holocaust survivor, and another one containing pieces directly from World War II.

The forum?s discussions were centered around four main topics: remembrance of the Holocaust, education on the topic, the fight against anti-semitism and other forms of racism, and the concerning rise of anti-semitism on social media over the past few years.
