Edward VII's coronation had to be postponed when he needed emergency surgery for acute appendicitis.
The King was determined that the coronation must in no circumstances be postponed. He declared that he would be in Westminster Abbey with the Queen on June 26.
The hotels were already full of guests.
Sir Francis Laking and Sir Thomas Barlow warned Edward that an operation was essential. Edward had the operation. He was crowned King on Coronation Day on August 9, 1902.

One unintended effect of the postponement of Edward VII's coronation was the departure of foreign delegations. They did not return for the rescheduled ceremony. These countries were represented by ambassadors on August 9, 1902.
