QuoteBritain's Princess Anne planted the first tree in a wood which is planted to mark Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee yesterday (10.10.11).

The Princess Royal was joined by Year five and six pupils from Ketton Primary School as she planted the chequers tree, in the grounds of Burghley House, in Stamford, Lincolnshire.

In total 23,650 of the trees will make up new Diamond Wood, one of 60 new woods which will be planted across Britain to celebrate the Queen's 60th year on the throne in 2012.

It is a great way of celebrating longevity, tradition and continuity. It seems to be an entirely appropriate way to celebrate the jubilee.

Princess Anne told the Stamford Mercury newspaper: "This is not just about planting trees, it is about schools and the learning process that come with these woods.

"It is a great way of celebrating longevity, tradition and continuity. It seems to be an entirely appropriate way to celebrate the jubilee."
