It was interesting to learn that William waived his own rights to the crown so his rights to his lands, as Count of Boulogne and Earl of Surrey, would be recognized.
After William's demise, his wife Isabel married Hamelin Plantagenet. Hamelin was the illegitimate son of Geoffrey of Anjou.

Eustace IV, Count of Boulogne was the eldest son of King Stephen. The bishops did not want to crown Eustace while his father was still the sovereign. Thus Eustace was denied his coronation.

In 1147 when Eustace was twenty-one, King Stephen knighted him. With Queen Matilda of Boulogne's consent Eustace was given possession of the honor and country of Boulogne.
