Title: Royal Families of Germany:Prussia, Hannover, Bavarian news and general chat
Post by: Jennifer on November 24, 2016, 03:52:29 PM
A thread to discuss the news, current events and general chat for  the non-reigning royal families of Germany including those from Prussia, Hannover, Bavaria etc...  :Jen:

Congratulations to Prince Georg Frederich and Princess Sophie to the birth of their four child! I wish them the best with their success.

QuotePrince Georg Friedrich and Princess Sophie of Prussia have recently welcomed their fourth child. Princess Sophie gave birth to a healthy boy in Bremen, where the family live. Both mother and child are said to be in good health.

They also have twin boys, Carl Friedrich Franz Alexander of Prussia and Louis Ferdinand Christian Albrecht of Prussia born on 20 January 2013 and a daughter Emma Marie Charlotte Sophie of Prussia born on 2 April 2015. The new addition to the family is still unnamed.

Prince Georg Friedrich is the current head of the House of Hohenzollern, which ruled the German Empire and the Kingdom of Prussia. He is the great-great-grandson of the last German Emperor, Wilhelm II, who was deposed after the First World War and went into exile in the Netherlands. Georg Friedrich is the only son of Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia (1944-1977) and Countess Donata of Castell-Rüdenhausen (1950-2015). Georg Friedrich went to school in Bremen and Oldenburg and also attend Glenalmond College near Perth, Scotland, where he passed his A-levels. He spent two years volunteering for the Germany army and attended Freiberg University of Mining and Technology. He now works for a company which specialises in helping universities bring their innovations to the public market. He divides his time between living in Bremen and at Hohenzollern Castle.

I like all four of Prince Heinrich's four names. Johann Georg !1528-1598) was a Prince-elector of the Margraviate of Brandenburg and a Duke of Prussia. Truly a historic selection of names.

QuoteHereditary Prince Ernst August of Hanover, eldest son Prince Ernst August of Hanover,  head of the deposed royal House of Hanover and senior male-line descendant of George III of the United Kingdom, is set to marry his Russian fiancee Ekaterina Malysheva in July.

Hanoverian newspaper Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung reports that the hereditary Prince is going to marry his fiancee in the local church, the Marktkerk, which is the oldest of the three medieval churches in the city of Hanover. The party will most likely continue at Castle Marienburg, 20 kilometres south of the city, which is still the private property of the family.

A lot of European royals are expected to attend the wedding. The elder Prince Ernst August is married to Princess Caroline of Monaco, and they have connections to the Greek royal house as his aunt Frederica was Queen of the Hellenes as the wife of Paul of Greece. Through her, they also have Spanish connections.  The House of Hanover provided the Kings of Great Britain until Queen Victoria. Her son Edward VII was the first monarch of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. The Kingdom of Hanover passed to Queen Victoria's uncle, the Duke of Cumberland. The current Hanoverians are in line for the succession to the British throne as descendants of Queen Victoria's eldest daughter, Victoria, Princess Royal.

The couple, who will also marry in a more lavish ceremony in Alessandra's native Peru in March next year, were joined by members of Monaco society for the service, which was followed by a wedding breakfast at the Ritz hotel.

On Monday, 7 September, several police officers surrounded the hunting lodge of Prince Ernst August in Grunau in the Almtal in Austria. The Prince of Hanover is accused of dangerous threats as well as property damage and coercion, reports the Austrian *Kronen Zeitung* The 66-year-old was therefore provisionally arrested.

I'm afraid Prince Ernst Augustus of Hanover ( snr) has been misbehaving once more. The police were called to his property in the Austrian alps and surrounded the place. They were called following an altercation and possible assault on a member of the Prince's staff.

I hope he hasn't been drinking again, but has certainly gone off the rails. I've always wondered why Caroline of Monaco hasn't divorced E-A in the last few years. There's no chance of a reconciliation, but I suppose her HRH due to the Hanover Union is very important.

Marlene Koenig in Royal Musings (an excellent blog) has a piece here about Prince Ernst August of Hanover, his latest appearance in court in Austria, and its consequences. Quite interesting. It?s not a final judgement but in the interim he has been banned from living at the Granau hunting lodge he has stayed in for years. Apparently EA was outraged at the decision, but as he is a German not an Austrian citizen, and physically assaulted and threatened local police officers after going berserk due to alcohol abuse at the said property, (for which he has been given a form of probation) I don?t see why he should be.

@Curryong-Thank you for sharing. I must admit I was briefly distracted by the tiara article!..\

Such a sad and tragic situation for the Hanover family. IMHO EA's long addiction to alcohol has caused significant damage to his physical and mental health.

Yes, the tiara article caught my attention.

Prince Ernst has battled his demons for years - it is all very sad. "The 67-year-old prince is accused of negligence, "by putting himself in a state of insanity with alcohol and medication," reports the Nachrichten, an Austrian newspaper."

That?s so sad that he is being blamed for his mental health issues.  It?s an illness - an issue with brain chemistry.  Just like Graves is an issue with thyroid chemistry or diabetes an issue of insulin and pancreas.   That attitude is so harmful and so backwards.

Ernst August of Hanover seems to have taken some advice given after his recent bad behaviour to heart. Although a bit gaunt-looking, he appears thinner and fitter than he has been for some years as he exits a bakery in Salzburg in Austria in the photo below with a driver/assistant. Maybe he is on the road to some recovery at least.

Ernst-August of Hanover has reportedly been in rehab recently but is now vacationing on the holiday island of Ibiza. It?s a popular spot for partying Brits and others, used to be a favourite of Chelsy Davy and friends. E-A looks cheerful and not bloated in his latest snaps so hopefully rumours that he has been seen having a drink or two on Ibiza are untrue.

The things you come upon when looking on twitter to see if any York baby news. You get Princess Beatrice but not the right one.

Princess Beatrice von Preussen's engagement was announced.

Like any former royal house weddings it will be sure to be full of many big names. And we will likely see the stunning von Preussen tiara.

Von Preussen Tiara | The Royal Watcher (https://royalwatcherblog.com/2020/07/30/von-preussen-tiara/)

Beatrice is second cousins with Prince George Friedrich of Prussia, both great-grandchildren of the last German crown prince. Her paternal grandmother was Lady Brigid Guiness. Her Aunt Antonia is married to the Duke of Wellington. Her cousin Charlotte is married to Alejandro Santo Domingo (half brother to Tatiana Casiraghi's father).

The bride at 40 is oldest of four kids, and last to marry. Her sister Florence married an old Etonian friend of Prince William.

On her mother's side she is niece of Benjamin Mancroft, 3rd Baron Mancroft.

She is a gifted artist, a professional, and concentrates on nature.

Brewing seems to be a theme. She is the granddaughter of a Guiness and her fiance Edmund's family also has it in the blood. Edmund's grandfather became the only non family stakehlolder in Sussex band The Harvey's Brewery. Edmund's father Miles is the head brewer.

Ooh er! Wonder whether Caroline will lose her HRH after all. Reports in European magazines report that Ernst August of Hanover is with a new girlfriend. They met on Ibiza this summer, she is German, an artist and mother of two. Apparently the two are very close. They are in Madrid at the moment and on their way to lunch with Prince Christian (not of Denmark!) So long as E-A keeps off the juice all will be well.

It appears that Prince Ernst August has a new partner. Hopefully he's in a healthier frame of mind now.

Princess Caroline of Monaco's estranged husband Prince Ernst of Hanover, 67, finds love | Daily Mail Online (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-10274585/Princess-Caroline-Monacos-estranged-husband-Prince-Ernst-Hanover-67-finds-love.html)

QuotePrince Ernst of Hanover, the estranged husband of Princess Caroline of Monaco, has found love with a woman 20 years his junior, it has emerged.

Ernst, 67, a distant cousin of the Queen, has been spotted out and about in Madrid with Spanish-born artist Claudia Stilianopoulos, 48, whose parents were friends with Princess Margaret.

The couple reportedly met in Ibiza in July and have become close, with some European news websites even hinting marriage could be on the cards.

Ernst married Princess Caroline, sister of Prince Albert II and daughter of Prince Rainier III, in 1999 and share daughter Princess Alexandra, 22. They split in 2009 but have never divorced.

Update on his suspended sentence in Austria.

QuoteErnst, the great-grandson of Emperor William II, was handed a 10-month suspended jail sentence in Austria earlier this year for drunkenly injuring a police officer and threatening another with a baseball bat.

He was also required by the court to find another home in Austria and attend psychotherapy.

His lawyers explained during the trial that he had undertaken treatment since the incidents, which they said occurred while he had been 'isolated for years and betrayed by his own son'. Hola magazine states that the instructions have now been lifted.

Update on his ongoing legal battle with his eldest son and heir over the family's holdings which were transferred to the younger Prince EA in the mid-2000's.Honestly I don't believe that EA Jr. had any other option open to him. Having the Federal Government take control of the historic property was likely the best solution.

QuoteErnst, the head of a German dynasty of one of Europe's biggest aristocratic families, has for years been in conflict with his 'ungrateful' son, whom he suspects of seeking to squander family properties in Germany, especially land and forests in Lower Saxony.

At the end of last year he filed a lawsuit in a court in Hanover in northern Germany in order to recover the Marienburg castle, which has become a tourist attraction.

Prince Ernst accused his son of 'going behind his back' in court papers filed this week.

He had transferred Marienburg castle and the neighbouring Calenburg estate to his son - also called Ernst August - in the mid-2000s.

The Duke of Braunschweig and L?neberg then flogged the land and in 2018 announced that Marienburg would be sold to the government for a nominal fee.

This may have been more economic than benevolent: the castle required renovations estimated at more than ?23 million and had been costing a fortune to keep open to 200,000 visitors each year.  The younger Ernst said it marked an 'historic turning point' for the family and would help preserve the Gothic palace for the public.

The Bundestag - Germany's federal parliament - has already voted in favour of contributing ?12 million towards the renovations, while around 100 paintings and other artefacts from the castle have been handed to Hanover's state museum.

These were worth a total of ?2 million, while a further ?5 million worth of treasures have been given to an art foundation.

The wrangling Ernst August Sr and Ernst August Jr were due to appear in court on November 25 but the hearing was postponed until March next year.
