Grandchildren of monarchs: King Jigme Singye Wangchuck ? Royal Central

With four wives and ten children, the King Father of Bhutan has several grandchildren ? including the two sons of Bhutan?s current monarch, King Jigme Khesar Wangchuck. Let?s take a look at the King Father?s 14 grandchildren.

The King Father?s most two well-known grandchildren are the sons of his successor and eldest son.

Lovely to see some of the king's other grandchildren. We see his granddaughter Decho Pema from time to time. Her parents who are the king's only full brother and the queen's older sister, accompany the royal couple to events at times as does their daughter.

Today Queen Jetsun marked what would have been the 92nd birthday of King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. The 3rd dragon king, he was the current king's grandfather. He died in 1972 at 43 years old.


The photo includes the king's grandmother (who is currently turning 91 this month) as well as the king's father and his two eldest aunts.

I love Bhutan has a royal calendar, and often we get a new photo of the beautiful family (The photo is posted on the calendar thread).

Hard to believe in 12 days these two have been married 10 years. Beautiful family.

Ten years ago, the people of Bhutan were introduced to their new Queen. Over the years, the nation has come together in celebration as well as challenging times, always guided and inspired by our King and Queen.
While the pandemic has changed the world, Bhutan has much to be hopeful for. More than ever we are grateful to have our King and Queen to light our path ahead.
We know what unending compassion means, because our King and Queen embody it.
On this cherished day, the 10th Anniversary of the Royal Wedding, we take the opportunity to thank the guardians protecting Bhutan, for blessing this land with a King and Queen whose benevolence and service knows no parallel.

His father abdicated in December nearly two years earlier, December 9, 2006. He had announced his intention the previous year and had started handing over power slowly. But the actual coronation waited till 2008.

At only six-years-old, he?s the youngest heir crown prince in the world. The Dragon Prince is the elder son of King Jigme Khesar and Queen Jetsun Pema and is known as Druk Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel (or Dragon Prince Jigme Namgyel) of Bhutan.

The Crown Prince of Bhutan was born on 5 February 2016 in Lingkana Palace in the Bhutanese capital of Thimphu. Following Bhutanese tradition, his name was not announced until a few months after his birth.

Until the name reveal, the Bhutanese Royal Family referred to him simply as The Gyalsey (or The Prince).

He replaced his uncle, Prince Jigyel Ugyen, as heir to the throne upon his birth. Prince Jigyel Ugyen is now third in the line of succession after the birth of the Crown Prince?s younger brother, Prince Ugyen Wangchuck, in March 2020.

Hadn't really thought about it, but yeah he is youngest heir by 2 years. Jacques will be 8 this year. There are only 3 heirs who are minors, Leonor rounding out the group. Well 4 with the King of Thailand's son who is nearing 17, but there is some question of his position. And Charles isnt even the oldest, the Crown Prince of Kuwait is in his 80s.

Happy belated birthday (April 12) to Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.  :bday: :happy20: :bday10:

He is the only full brother of the current king (4th son of the previous king). Instead of Prince Dashi like his other brothers, he is titled Prince Gyaltshab. Gyaltshab refers to the king's regent/representative, a position he was raised to in 2014. He administer's the kings lands and their use for the people.

He also happens to be married to one of the queen's sisters Ashi Yeatso Lhamo Wangchuck (2 of the queen's four siblings are married into the royal family. The other is a brother married to Princess Euphelma).

The Queen is one of the most beautiful women in royal circles, she looks so serene and at peace with all that goes on around her.  I just love her clothing, that fabric is stunning and all the colors and designs ...just beautiful.

Jetsun honors the Queen Grandmother on her 93 birthday.

Bhutan is not only the only country with 6 queens (the queen Jetsun, the four queen mothers, and the queen grandmother) but they are also the only country with a Queen grandmother. 

Like Jetsun, the Queen Grandmother was the only wife of the king. Her husband the 3rd Dragon king was like his grandson, choosing not to follow in the steps of his father in having multiple wives.
