It was interesting that Prince Louis at the age of eleven was required to begin learning the princely trade in Monaco. After he graduated from the Saint Cyr French military academy, he volunteered to serve with the Foreign Legion in North Africa.

Prince Louis II began the First World War as a courier. In autumn 1914, he became an officer liason. He did not want people to know his status as Hereditary Prince. He had a camera and took many photographs to keep a record of the war.
